Buffets now $60!!??

This can't be serious is it? Another "glitch"?

There is no realm where that is an acceptable price for a buffet. I noticed the breakfast prices were at 34.99 at Crystal Palace, was it at 29.99 before? This stinks as I had already done the budgeting for food for our trip next month. With a 12 year old who eats like a 7 year old that is just not going to work.

I always enjoy reading here mostly because the humor is good and the information is solid. I suppose I like this clique of Disney peeps. Yet this somehow is just not funny to me. Ridiculous to say almost disheartening. (yes I know it is only an amusement park) Yet here I sit laughing at the post below but somehow really sad and angry! Plans change I guess so we miss out on a few buffets. Was hoping to enjoy them with my 6yr dd for the first time. Oh wells! Please give me some more memes to make me laugh.;)

Surge pricing...buffet style:eek::confused::confused:

The $60 is the max during peak times.:greedy::greedy::greedy:

....Either that or they updated the high end of the $$$ price point (which the buffets are part of) and they won't actually be changing anyone $60.

I think we need at least two more threads about buffet pricing increases please

OK, so if this is 'surge pricing,' do they have a schedule of what is charged when? I mean how can people budget if they don't know what each meal will cost?

@aprincessatlasst don't cancel anything just yet, if this is surge pricing model then your visit might be on the lower end.

We just returned from 10 days in Orlando. 7 of which were spent at WDW theme parks, Disney Springs, and Typhoon Lagoon. We stay off-site so did not use the Dining Plan and paid cash for everything. We have done WDW 8 out of the last 10 years and the cost of food just goes up and up and up. We talked as a family at the end of it and even my kids (now teens and more aware of money and costs) all agreed that it was not worth it. We decided it will be 4-5 years before we go back assuming that it's not completely out of reach by then. Counter service use to cost us $50 for a family of five. We had several that were around $80. $80 for hamburgers and chicken nuggets? I can eat good burgers and chicken nuggets from Five Guys or Chick-fil-a for under $50 with my family. It's just too much. Adios WDW! It was a fun ride while it lasted. :)

I guess I don't understand the confusion, the buffets have always had "surge pricing," at least they have in the 10 years we've had our AP's. That's why the Disney site lists a price range on any given day and not the current, actual price.

We ate at Chef Mickey's for dinner a month ago and I'm reasonably sure the current listed range (35-59) was the same then when I booked the ressie in the app. I've long misplaced the receipt, but looking at my debit charge and backing out the tip and TIB d/c, we paid 39 and change per adult.

I'm not saying these prices are reasonable or anything like that, I just think people are overblowing a simple Web publishing mistake. Correct me if I'm wrong, but no one was actually charged the higher, incorrect ts credit, right?

Ok, let's assume surge pricing is the reason. I can look right now and book a Disney resort at any time of year and right there on the screen see what the rate will be for the time period I'm going to book. Value, Regular, Peak, etc. it tells me the price I'm going to pay if I book today. Understanding there is some fluctuation in menu ingredient pricing, is it really enough to affect the margin on pricing in a meaningful way when your're talking these already high prices? How can i know when making those 180 day ADR's exactly what i'll be paying? Is it listed anywhere other than the range? Do i have to wait until i'm onsite and it's too late to cancel without $10/person penalty to know the price?

Surge pricing and the price difference between breakfast, lunch and dinner is the reason for the price range shown at the buffets. There is no need to assume. It is simple supply and demand. Disney knows the demand is going to go up during certain times of the year and people will pay more.

How do you know what you will be paying?....Honestly, you can't.

To my knowledge Disney has never released a schedule with exact pricing for the buffets on property. At best I have seen times when prices can be expected to be above minimum. Those are as follows.
  • President’s Day: from the weekend prior through the weekend after
  • Spring Break/Easter: select dates from the second week of March until the week after Easter
  • Summer Season: June through early August
  • Christmas/New Years Holidays: from mid-December through the first few days of January
If you are paying cash all you can do it use the highest price for the meal you will be eating (prices can be found on this site and many others) for your budget numbers if you are traveling during the afore mentioned dates. If you are using the dining plan then the price is irrelevant.

There are some fan sites and forums that maintain up to date buffet pricing. DIS Boards has a sticky thread showing the latest pricing. But there is no official source, unless you phone up and ask or check the sign outside the restaurant.
