My DW and I really want to try the Brown Derby, but I have seen mixed reviews. Anyone been there? What's the best thing to eat? Please Help?

The Cobb Salad is the specialty, as it was at the original, and it is great. It's big enough for two to split as a salad or for one as a dinner.

I would also recommend asking for a booth and waiting a few extra minutes if you have to. It is a much better experience in the wings. The floor can be crowded and noisy, as it was in the original, in those days you had to be somebody to get the better tables, now you just have to know to ask.

The cobb salad is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G and I am a cobb salad snob! I enjoy sitting on the floor you get to watch all the action and look up at the people!

Cobb salad gets a big thumbs up.

Grapefruit cake was a meh for me. Nice, but didn't thrill me (grapefruit hoses up your Lipitor anyway :) )

I really like the mussels there, however they only serve them at lunch. I have asked a number of times if they could do them at dinner, and was always told no. :(

Family of our "adults" went there on DDP in Sept. We each had the steak, and were quite pleased. Each of us got different deserts, I tasted all of them and liked them all. I should note though, that I am not a picky eater and am quite easy to please, esp. while at WDW and eating for "tip".

the reason the reviews have been mixed recently is because they changed their menu. It used to be one of my favorite places. the new menu lacked the filet. Today Steve the person who runs the site posted that the filet is back. I think it can be one of your best meals. go for it.

Would it be appropriate to purchase the cobb salad or another appetizer as a meal? Or is each guest expected to purchase an entree since we are taking up a dinner reservation?

If you are not bound to a dining plan you can certainly order anything you desire. My wife has ordered a Cobb Salad as her main "entree" in times past.

We tried it for the first time on our last trip. All 4 of us had the steak and we really liked it. If I had 1 complaint it would be the price. It was a bit pricey for what you get and although good, it wasn't best meal we have had at Disney. That said I give a definite try it.

My wife and I really enjoy the Brown Derby. It would be great if they would bring the piano and pianist back like in the past, but it's a great experience. Whenever we were at Disney for New Years, we would always have dinner at BD on NYE. Now days we like to go there for lunch, where we'll usually share the wonderful Cobb salad, some wine, and an appetizer. The crab cakes and shrimp are very good. It's a nice sophistacated and classy, but relaxing atmosphere that I don't really get in any of the other parts.

Our family of 4 loved the Brown Derby last October! The famous cobb salad, the steak, and the grapefruit cake were all fantastic. Service was top notch. Atmosphere was sophisticated but child friendly. Well worth 2 meals credits.
