Brown Derby and Coral Reef Going Down the Tubes?

I thought Brown Derby was good, yet my girlfriend hated the Cobb salad...which is there signature.

IMHO....50's Prime Time is #1 in the category of going down the hill.

My family used to get great food with great entertainment (aka the waitors)...and the passed four visits have been complete duds!!!! It was on our MUST list back in the 90's....now its not even on our list...a real shame.

I wasn't crazy about the Cobb Salad either, but I'm not a big fan of chopped salads.

I'm trying Coral Reef for the first time in June and am very excited.

The Hollywood Brown Derby was SOOOO good when I went in September. I had steak, garlic mashed potatos, cobb salad, creme brulee.....

Sounds great to me.....I have always wanted to go there and next visit it's on the list! The outdoor sandwich spot we stopped at was rather anticlimatic and blah. We really enjoy a good sitdown meal after a funfilled day!!:king:

Of course everone has their own preference, one of my children was rather disturbed that Pecos Bill no longer carries hot dogs.....:D But ventured into their awesome hamburgers and fixings bar!!

I have to agree with you there. The last few trips have really been hit or miss. I know servers can have a bad day and what not but at Prime time they are a huge part of the experience.

Never been to Coral Reef because nothing on the menu "grabs" me.

It seemed that there were very few seafood items on their menu--like 50%.

Every seafood place will have chicken or steak, but the majority should be stuff that swims.

And yeah--50's Prime Time is off our list. I just simply don't think the food is that great. For starters, it is NOT authentic 50's fare. Some arty chef tried to update it and ruined it.
Skins in the mashed potatoes?!?!?!? I don't think so.
Green pepper in the meat loaf? Every Mom knows that the kids will pick it out.
Crunchy carrots in the pot roast?? They cook all day with the meat and should be falling apart tender. (You have to eat the gravy because that's where the nutrition is!)

i spoke with the coral reef manager, (about another topic) but we ended up discussing the lobster (or lack there of). she told me they just can't find a good supplier. and if the quality is not going to be there for the quantity that they would need, they simply won't offer lobster.

i personally can't wait to go eat there. 27 more days til the world!

I have a hard time believing that manager when Narcoosee's and Fulton's Crab House have no problem getting quality Lobster

As the poster said, it was an issue of quality AND quantity. They may have a supplier that can supply a certain quality at a quantity that will only fill the needs of a few select restaurants on the property. So they chose restaurants where people would most likely be ordering lobster, and possibly with chefs who pushed to have it stay on their menu, or any number of behind-the-scene decisions we aren't privy to.

So that would explain why they still serve lobster, but only at a few locations.

As for the "food is going downhill" arguments, I believe if you look back at the archives, you will find this is one of those recurring discussions, and not just a recent one. The spin that it is a result of the dining plan is certainly newer, but the overall discussion itself is old school. ;)

I dissagree if they want quantity and quality Lobster they can get if they really want it on the menu. CR would have no problem selling Lobster.

This past summer my family decided to try the Brown Derby. Needless to say, it was out first and last meal there. The staff really wasn't that kind (which is so odd for Disney employees) and well, the food wasn't all that great either. We typically eat at the Sci-Fi Dine-In. It's always so relaxing and the wait staff is top notch--plenty of fresh, ice-cold drinks readily refilled. But, the Brown Derby...what a let down!

Your right how foolish of me, Its just my memory playing tricks that having been generally pretty good on every visit sice 94, that in 06 almost every place we ate had dropped in quality. The free dinning and full to bursting resturants were just a coincidence.

There is no need for sarcasm. Go ahead and look historically for yourself...there are many discussion boards that will confirm it.

I won't bother going to CR anymore. We had one bad meal and thought we would give it another try. two strikes and your out no matter how great the atmosphere. I do agree with Pumbas on the impact of the dining plan. We used the dining plan in Dec. with our group it was far cheaper to go that route..the cost of the tips alone pushed us in that decision. But we normally did not do a sit down meal every day, but on the dining plan we did.

I didnt realise my personal dinning experiences were the subject of discussion boards.

It may be the lowest form of witt but some times you have to guage your target audience.

You are welcome to be a complete jerk. I won't be baited. I hardly think this is a topic to get so bent out of shape about. We are discussing, not arguing.

Our family of six really enjoyed the Coral Reef and 50's Prime Time Cafe. We had great service at both of the places and we loved the food too. I guess this just proves that everyone has their own opinion of what they like. :animwink:
