I believe Mulan and Lilo and Stitch were also fully made at the Studios. Most of the other movies, were partially made at the MGM theme park.

Oh yea, I remember Mulan now! They had a cool parade for it. I forgot how long it lasted. This is the first time I'm hearing about Lilo and Stich though. That's cool, since those are rather popular movies.

Highly doubt this will ever happen. Brother Bear was no where near popular enough to have its own ride.

While I agree that the Brother bear ride will most likley never happen, popularity didn't have anything to do with Splash Mountain. Song Of The South was barley even seen by anyone when it opened.

GO CARDS!!!!

In 1946 Disney released the film Song of the South. It mixed animation and live action, and was based on the "Uncle Remus" stories.
I grew up in the 50's and my father read the adventures of Br'er Fox,Br'er Bear and Br'er Rabbit to me many many evenings.
Disney re-released the film in 1956, but then kept it out of circulation all throughout the turbulent civil rights era of the 1960s. In 1970 Disney announced in Variety that Song of the South had been "permanently" retired, but the studio eventually changed its mind and re-released the film in 1972, 1981, and again in 1986 for a fortieth anniversary celebration.
So while many of the younger generation may not have seen the 1981 and 1986 releases believe me many people in their 40's and 50's know those beloved characters very well.
Splash Mountain is my favorite ride. That rabbit tricked Be'er Fox into throwing him into the brier patch by pretending that he was more afraid of the brier patch than "bein skinned alive!"

Bob Iger will be the God CEO if he would ok the release of "Song of the South." It's one of the best films ever made. Too bad according to an exchange at the last shareholder meeting, it doesn't look like he'll be the one to do it. We're just going to have to wait.

I, too, heard the Uncle Remus stories when I was little:) ...I've tried to get Song of the South with no success. A CM on Splash Mountain told me it's been *permanently* retired. Can any of you tell me if this is not the case, and is it currently available anywhere? Thanks!!!

I thought there was some chatter that Disney might actually release it. What happened at the shareholders meeting?

Not mine... but

During the question and answer session at Disney's 2006 Annual Meeting of Shareholders in Anaheim, CA, the question was raised by a Disney shareholder why Song of the South has not been released. Here is a transcript:

"My name is Howard Cromer. I live in Cypress, I'm a Disney shareholder. I'm actually delivering a message from my son, 10. He wants to know in recent years, in the midst of all your re-releases of your videos, why you haven't released Song of the South on your Disney Classics?" [Applause] "And, he wonders why. Frank Wells told me many years ago that it would be coming out. Well obviously Frank Wells isn't around anymore, so we still wonder why. And by the way, Mr. Iger, he thinks it was a very good choice when they made you CEO of Disney." [Applause]

Iger: "Thank you very much. You may change your mind when I answer your question, though. Um... we've discussed this a lot. We believe it's actually an opportunity from a financial perspective to put Song of the South out. I screened it fairly recently because I hadn't seen it since I was a child, and I have to tell you after I watched it, even considering the context that it was made, I had some concerns about it because of what it depicted. And thought it's quite possible that people wouldn't consider it in the context that it was made, and there were some... [long pause] depictions that I mentioned earlier in the film that I think would be bothersome to a lot of people. And so, owing to the sensitivity that exists in our culture, balancing it with the desire to, uh, maybe increase our earnings a bit, but never putting that in front of what we thought were our ethics and our integrity, we made the decision not to re-release it."

There were rumblings that Disney might release it via downloads over the internet, but not on DVD or anything... but does that make any sense? It's still going to be available for purchase...

But I'm only in my 20's and I've seen Song of the South many a time and I also remember seeing the animated segments on the Disney channel when I was a kid.

I'm assuming that you don't live in the United States...

"Song of the South" has been released to VHS several times in other countries. I've met people who own the German version that has been re-dubbed in English.

It has been released to the home video market in various European and Asian countries.

You may be able to obtain one of those copies.
Unfortualy I think most of the VHS were the PAL format which is not the same format as the VHS 'es made in the USA.

Don't fret folks. It is still perfectly legal to purchase the European version and simply have the PAL format converted to VHS.

A certain website out there (a .co.uk site) is charging US$130. Not the greatest deal...but hey, no moral qualms, since this is truly the only legal way to purchase it.

On that same token, I really don't think they'd want to put Disney into a showcase for a country (which is what all the WS pavillions are).

That notion should be dismissed, being that they're inserting the Three Caballeros into Mexico's El Rio Del Tiempo.

Very few World Showcase countries (maybe only one, actually, France) are still represented by the actual country. In the beginning, every single one was sponsored by it's home country. Unfortunately, that's not the case anymore, and therefore, Disney has nearly 100% say so in what happens within the walls of each. Yet another reason you can expect to see characters in the future in World Showcase.

Norway's got them (characters) already, if the regularly-scheduled character dining at Akershus counts.

I suppose you could count that. Integrating them directly into the pavillion's culture is a different thing, though. I sort of see the princess thing as an additional stop "near" Norway, even thoguh it's inside. I guess since it took over the restaurant, it should count. Nevermind. LOL

Let me go ahead and quell this rumor for you, at least on the Canada site of things. Below is a picture of the area behind Canada that everyone says is where this attraction would go. This is an older satellite image, as Soarin' isn't even built yet, but I've marked off the area where it now stands. As you can clearly see in the picture below, the space that this attraction would go in is microscopic and the only way they could do it is if they tore down the entire Events building (formerly the Millenium Village) which I don't see happening because it is used frequently. On that same token, I really don't think they'd want to put Disney into a showcase for a country (which is what all the WS pavillions are). The attraction would have to go somewhere else IF it were even to be built.

Here's a newer picture to illustrate the area better. You overestimated a bit. There is SOME room....just very little...probably not enough to do anything meaningful with...but theme parks have surprised me in the past
