Broken Yetti's and Dinos?

So one if the first things I noticed from my DL trip in May was how much better the parks looked and how much better parts of the atttractions worked compared to WDW.

In WDW the Yetti in EE hasn't worked right for months and a lot of the effects from Dinosaur don't ever work.

Why is this are the attractions in DL just built better?
Is DL just easier to maintain because of it's size?
Does DL management just put more money into maintaining things?

From what I understand it is simply a case of management. DL seems to be much more concerned about keeping the parks maintained but it was not always the case. In the not so distant past DL was all but falling apart and took quite a bit to get it ready for it's 50th anniversary.

The Yeti is really an isolated and unique case. There was a major structural failure in the largest most powerful AA ever made. Disney could simply not swap it out or put a band aid over it. While all of use were complaining that Disney was doing nothing they were working hard behind the scenes to fix the problem without closing the attraction for an extended period of time. From what we have been hearing A mode is slowly making a return.

Wow, ithought things at DL were really quit shabby compared to WDW. I was at DL july 1st and i notices cobwebs in toads wild ride, lots of gum on the pavement, chipping paint, i could go on but i want to remember the great time we all had. I'm not saying i would eat off the floor at WDW, but it is cleaner and better maintained. as for the rides, the yeti was SCARY at DL! i did not know he was going to be there , less than 260 hours till i'm back at wdw!!!

I've also noticed that the animatronics and effects are better maintained at Disneyland than WDW. The big E Tickets are the easiest to notice, with animatronics in rides like Splash Mt., Pirates, Jungle Cruise, Small World, etc. smoothly moving and dancing and talking in Disneyland, but at WDW they just sort of wiggle or herky-jerk around, or maybe just sort of stand there and blink one eye.

The other spefx, like fiber optics in Peter Pan, lighting overall, films and projections, also seem crisper and flashier on the Disneyland versions. For the most part, stuff at WDW seemed to have a faded and slightly decayed look to it all, or like it just needed a really good cleaning and scrub down.

Those were the interiors and showmanship issues. I found the exteriors and facades of both properties to be equally well cared for. But the effects and animatronics and interiors of the attractions are noticeably different between WDW and Disneyland.

No kidding! Even though the Matterhorn's Yeti's are much smaller than the one at Expedition Everest, THEY SCARE THE CRAP OUT OF ME!!!!

As far as cleanliness & ride maintenance go. I've found DLR and WDW to be fairly comparable.

However, it's pretty clear that DLR is certainly getting more $$$$$$corporate love$$$$$$ lately. Hopefully investments will start flowing back to WDW soon.

Yep! Totally agree! This is a great example of relying less on "impressive" behind the scenes technology (a detail that only hardcore Disney fans, not the average guests, would even know about), and relying more on much better showmanship!

I would have preferred they shut down the attraction and while fixing the Yeti, make the overall attraction itself more impressive. I've always felt that EE opened "incomplete". There's just not that much to it.

I can't agree with this at all. We were at WDW in Jan. for 7 days, then I was at DL in Feb. for 1 VERY LONG Saturday (7am-9pm) and then we were back at DL for 3 days in March. DL was pretty much immaculate except for one overflowing ashtray I noticed along the Rivers of America. The upkeep of the rides was perfect as far as I could tell, with one lone exception. Indiana Jones needs to be closed for a rehab as it seems like a lot of the effects just aren't working. Hopefully its up to be done soon.
WDW was pretty clean as well. Didn't notice too much except for the Toy Story Midway Mania queue was really dirty and there were some overflowing garbage cans at Epcot. The ride upkeep was pretty bad, though. Splash Mt. had just reopened after a refurb and several of the AAs were barely moving. Same on Small World, Peter Pan (at least I swear I remember Captain Hook used to move when he's standing in the Croc's mouth), Pirates, Jungle Cruise and Great Movie Ride to name a few. Hopefully those things will change with what seems to be the renewed interest in keeping WDW clean and well-kept. Hope so anyway.

One thing I will say for WDW is that it had to be a lot harder to maintain 4 parks and 2 waterparks as apposed to just 2 parks.

I agree that many of the animatronics work better at Disneyland, they seem to have a lot more ride breakdowns. On my recent trip, I spent a whole day trying to get on rides to have them breakdown right as I got to the front of the ride. I also had to evacuate off of Roger Rabbit (which I'm not complaining about, because it lead to some interesting photo opportunities :lookaroun). However, I'd be willing to bet almost all, if not every ride broke down over the 11 day span that I was there.

Well, I've only been to WDW once in the last 10 years or so. If I recall, all of the rides worked fine when we were there. Even the Yeti. Although I know the Yeti is a lot more complicated than a lot of stuff at Disneyland so that's probably why they have so much trouble keeping it working properly.

I've been to Disneyland hundreds of times so obviously I've encountered a lot of breakdowns and whatnot. Even a very sad, shaky Indiana Jones animatronic at the end of the ride. It looked like he was having a seizure.

As far as cleanliness....I found WDW to be very dirty when we were there in 2008. Tons of overflowing trash cans. Backed up toilets in many bathrooms. Stuff like that. It was pretty gross. Of all the times I've been to Disneyland I don't know if I've ever gone into a bathroom with backed up toilet water all over the floor.
