Bringing technology in the Parks

Last time someone directly in front of me held up an iPad I scooched in front of them.

So long as it isn't blocking my view and they aren't walking at a snail's pace because they're busy using the thing, I have no problem with other people taking iPads to the parks. I won't, but everyone should do their own thing. :)

my Ipad stayed in the room during our last trip. Not a lot (some though) of places that you can charge tech toys with dead batteries while there plus having to worry about the item while on rides. Smart phone my Disney experience ap is useful for show times / character meet and greet locations for the day and park you are at as well as ride times. but yes the wifi can be pretty slow while you are there if you are going that route for connecting to the internet.

That settles it, I am bringing it with me on the trip, but not to the parks. I have an actual camera that I will be taking pictures with...and it has wifi, which hopefully I will be able to use in the parks some.
I love the camera on my iPad but NEVER would use it in a vacinity where there are a multitude of people. That screen is bright (yes, I know it can be dimmed, but I love it bright) and it would blind someone, if not me, and it is too cumbersome to take pictures, especially how many I will take.

You may want to see if you'd like the camera kit to let you empty your camera chip into the iPad back in the room to free up more photo space.

I try to remember that not everyone can afford several forms of technology. Those people using iPads in the parks may not be able to afford an iPhone and/or camera, too.

Yes, it does, lol. Poor Jeff was killed in prison and I hope he is happy in the afterlife, free of mental illness. :(

That's what I do! It's very easy. I can barely get online and I am able to transfer pics from the card to the iPad. So easy!!!

Using phones and tablets as cameras at large events is a pet peeve of mine. It really sucks to go to a concert like Paul McCartney at Fenway or Aerosmith at the Garden and all you see in front of you is people blatantly and illegally recording the show on their brightly lit overpriced piece of technology instead of just letting go and enjoying the show.

We always bring a tablet to Disney but never to the parks. We carry enough stuff. A lot of people complain about the wifi but I never had any issues. I was video chatting my fiance in Epcot for quite sometime and uploaded pictures to different social media sites with no issue.
But I can attest to people holding up ipads, recording shows and parades really ticked me off last time!

There is nothing wrong bringing your IPAD or your Smart Phone into the parks if that makes you happy. For me and the DW we leave all electronics in the resort room and have them locked up in the suite case until we want it that night, The DW and I do not want to be connected to the world at that point and do not want to carry anything like phones or IPADS. We just take our camera, wallet and so on. We do not want to be bothered with anyone E-mailing us while on vacation and do not want anyone calling us while on vacation. We are not on face book or twitter and do not care for them. Now at the end of the day we do turn our Cell phones on and check for any messages of importance that is considered and E-mergancy or extremely important. Our Daughter and Son-Inlaw handles issues that may arise while we are away. Everyday that we start are morning after breakfast my wife calls Bestfriends and makes sure our Dogs are doing good. After that we are off to the parks with a happy thought that our two dogs are doing good. Then we arrive at our first adventure of the day and forget everything else. Please understand that I am on a constant call list and have to respond to calls and E-mails all the time. Vacation for me other than being at WDW is dropping all the gadgets and just relaxing becoming invisible to the world again for two whole weeks. By the end of the second week on vacation, you have to check to see if I even have a pusle or any blood pressure. Just a relaxing uneventful pleasent time. I feel sometimes that people now adays forget to relax and need to take a break of sharing information and posting on Facebook and just relax and enjoy their families and times together alone in the parks. I sometimes wonder how many people could survive a week without their smart phones and IPADS.

If my camera did not have wifi, I would be all over that! It downloads on my iPad (if there is a wifi connection). Technology is awesome, sometimes.

My phone is not an appendage of my arm, thankfully. The only times I will use my phone in WDW is when I am looking at wait times. Nothing else. There is too much to be seen at WDW that I don't want to waste it looking at a screen.
The iPad thought would have been more for waiting in lines, not staring at during the day or taking pictures with.
I miss people not having an actual camera. They are so much more fun. You can do so much with them now.

It's easier to use and carry a smart phone to keep track of wait times and giving kids a game to play in the line. Phones usually have a better camera than the iPad does as well. Just bring a charger cord depending on what you have.

Also the park wifi is really spotty. I couldn't get it to work a lot of times when I was trying to preserve some of my data. 4G and 3G works well pretty much everywhere. Only trouble spots for me using Verizon was in the Future World buildings.

I hope no one takes offense to this, but I think tourists holding up iPads to take pictures is just ridiculous. If you bring one just don't use it for pictures. And I think you're probably just better off with a smart phone, it would be less annoying to carry around

Don't be like this guy. A year ago or so iPad guy at AK in the Flight of Wonder bird show stood up and held his toy over his head while sitting about mid row blocking several rows of folks behind him of course. As you would imagine several of us shouted to him to sit down. He ignored us. Big mistake. A cast member came down the aisle instructing him to sit down. iPad guy waved her away and kept his position. A guy in the row in front of him stood up and turned to face him directly in front of the iPad then stepped up on his seat. Some words were exchanged. By then the cast member returned with a couple supervisors who escorted iPad guy, Ms. iPad guy and three little iPods out to a round of applause.

We've found that our little camera with a SD card takes better photos than our camera phone, our DIL smartphone, or our tablet. I can download the photos later.

Bringing a tablet on a plane, sure great idea.

Using it in the parks, ehhhhh not so great.

They illuminate everything when you use them as cameras, and they'll probably get broken or wet depending on where you are headed.

Leave them in your hotel rooms.

Smartphones, well, I always have my phone on me, but I keep it in a plastic zip-lock bag when I know I'm going on Splash Mountain, and tucked in my bag if I'm not using it.

You're on vacation, the world can wait (unless there are emergencies).

I don't own an iPad but I imagine it would be a pain.
In the resorts would be one thing but the parks would be a bit awkward. Especially if you're using it as your camera. Please don't be THAT guy X_X

...and I was hoping this thread would be related to bringing "Alien" technology to the parks.

X-S...why bother doing it at all?"

Considering for many people they often double as their cameras, they probably couldn't go on vacation without them XD
I know I for one need to have my phone even when at the parks. It's my camera, it's my clock, and as an adult, sometimes I like to go on my own and do something else while others in my family ride something I don't actually want to ride and then we need to call to find each other.
