Bring Back The Classic Rides

In my opinion, DF was an awful attraction. I may have been too young, but it seemed to have no real value, or point.

My childhood memories vaguely include DreamFlight. I enjoyed the part in the beginning where you fly through the airplane cabin. Oh, and that part with the large projection room. Overall, it was a fun ride, in my opinion. I've been pondering lately about this ride, though: What's the difference between DreamFlight and If You Had Wings? For the past year, I've been listening to the If You Had Wings theme song (downloaded from alt.binaries.multimedia.disney, I believe), and it's absolutely hilarious.

Way back when, they also had an attraction called Mission to Mars in Tomorrowland. It was the worst thing ever!

Are you kidding! Once again, I must disagree. When I was young, that was the most intense attractions in the park! I was petrified throughout that ride, as I actually believed I had embarked on a Mission to Mars. I was quite relieved after returning to Earth.

Kitchen Cabaret, and The original Tiki Birds were both sleepers as well....almost always no lines the last two years and so they were closed.
Unfortunately their successors, Food Rocks, and The Under New Management Tiki birds never faired well either.

I LOVED THE ORIGINAL ENCHANTED TIKI ROOM!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was SO MUCH BETTER than the "Under New Management" so called attraction!

I'm drawing a blank on Tropical Serenade......I don't even recognize the name.

Tropical Serenade is the Original Tiki Birds

WHAT ABOUT IF YOU HAD WINGS? I liked that too!
TOAD MUST RETURN! But I love the new Winnie the Pooh also.

I have not bought any but I think the idea is kind of cool.

Does anyone knows what happens to the parts of the ride that are torn down. For example Toad's Wild Ride, where do all the scenery and characters go? Are they all thrown out or saved?

Take care,
Greg

One of Toad's cars was on eBay a few months ago.

I would love to have all of those rides on a great big DVD, but I would not want them back in the parks. I know how much everyone loved them and I'm sure that one day I will feel the same about a particular ride, but I was never a big fan of those. I have seen video from DF and WoM and I personally feel that they were boring. I'm sure my opinion would change if I rode them, but for the moment, eh. Horizons and 20K I rode and have recently seen videos of. I also felt that horizons was a little boring and that 20K was too uncomfortable to be on for a long period of time. I hate to say this but I am of the new generation that Disney is catering to. While I am on an odd end of the scale (I prefer dark rides to roller coasters) I get bored with seeing the same thing every time I visit. I enjoyed seeing mission space the last time i was down because it was new and exciting. I probably won't ride EE, but it's new and something to see. I would, though, buy the DVD's of these rides, if only to forever remember what once was.

I say we start a petition to BRING BACK THE CLASSICS that made Disney what it is today. Bring back Toad, 20,000 Leagues, World of Motion, Horizons...etc... Update them & bring them back!! Your thoughts???

Funny, I made the same suggestion like a month ago and got totally ignored. None of those rides will come back in their original forms, lets face it. But I would that a possibility for reworking of some of these attractions is not out of the question. Think about it, the sub rides were canned, but they have one in toyko sea. I don't think it's the same ride consept, but a 20k leagues ride none the less. And they rework and upgrade old attractions all the time, JIIand tiki room are the most major ones I can think of, so who's to say they wouldn't consider a new version. For example, toad would be a great ride if they reworked the visual consept to tell more of a story like from the movie and maybe use the indiana jones ride tech to add new life to toad. As far as horizons goes, I miss it terribly and would love to see it replace WOL. ANd even if the insides were trashed, it could always use new animatronics and a new ride system to prevent the corrosion of the last building from happening again. Why not even do a 3-d movie or something. WOM was great but will never come back no matter what we do, same with dreamflight. Toad and Horizons are probally our best bet. Get the darn petion goin and I'll sign for sure and help whatever way I can.

20,000 Leagues had long lines because it was a slow loading ride.
It didn't have good handicap access either and was a pain to load when it came to overweight and older guests. I only rode it twice and I'm kinda claustraphobic so I didn't care much for this ride. It also had a fowl odor from the condensation and constant dampness inside the submarines. The audio animatronics were not very good and very antiquated. This ride either needed to be shut down or totally upgraded.

I wonder how these problems could be solved today, if 20,000 Leagues was brought back and totally upgraded? One way to solve the problem with crowding is to make the submarine larger (which would accomidate more guests as well), along with a larger pond to swim around in. Not sure about the odor, though. Do real sumbarines have ways of controlling such dampness odor or a tighter seal on the doors, windows, etc. Those are points to think about! :)

Folks, all it takes is a little travel....

The original Tiki Birds perform every day at Disneyland.
Mr. Toad heads of to Nowhere in Particular at Disneyland.
The sub lagoon will likely be occupied in about 2 years at...you guessed it....Disneyland.

Yeah, I'm not concerned with these three. I AM upset that Rap Music plays in Adventureland and that the new show criticizes the original attraction. . . but anyway. . .

EPCOT is a horse of a different color. :D

You may be surprised on how many people would buy these. Even the EAC online is extremely successful. . . and, of course, a limited edition may help out the DVD sales.

I'm thinking of a DVD set for each park's extinct attractions. Epcot would have World Of Motion,JII,Horizons, Universe of Energy, Communicore, Magic Journeys,Captain EO,Kitchen Kaberet, Food Rocks and Tapestry of Nations/Dreams.
Magic Kingdom would have all of it's extinct ones(I'm not going to list 'em all) and a virtual Western River.

I too highly enjoyed Dream Flight in my younger years. When I was younger, i was obsessed with pop-up books and the like, so Dream Flight was my type of attraction! Especially with the little cut-out cartoon characters depicting the different types of flight, the fly through the air plane cabin (I had never ridden in an air plane before..still haven't...so that part was really cool), and of course the pop-up book at the end of the ride! and the song...omg...STILL one of my all time favorite theme songs from WDW (along with Universe of Energy's old theme song and There's A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow). i used to make my dad ride DF with me all the time. and i remember being so happy that it had survived the TL redo! Dad video taped it for me one trip, and it's a good thing he did because, i believe, it was gone the next time we visited. I was heartbroken that it was gone, but i felt better when i found out that Buzz (Toy Story is my fave. Disney movie) was taking its spot. But, in my world, Dream Flight is definately a classic attraction that i'll never forget! and may I also add, Kitchen Kabaret is right up there with DF! i swear, for the rest of my life, "Veggie Veggie Fruit Fruit" will be stuck in my head...and that's just the way i want it! it's sad that Disney produces songs like that only once in a blue moon any more. :(
