Breakfast in your room

To save money and time, we will be eating breakfast in our room for our entire upcoming stay, with the exception of one day where we will not be going to any parks. We will be there 10 days and I am really hitting a brick wall trying to come up with a variety of things to bring. There are only so many granola bars one can eat before you go a little squirrely. :D

For those of you that pack or ship or buy breakfast items to keep in your room, what are some of the things you bring?

We bring a variety pack of the single-serve "mini boxes" of cereal for the kids. (I bring disposable bowls and plastic spoons, and we buy milk from the resort store, to go with it.) For DH and me, a box of granola/Fiber One bars, a variety box of Pop Tarts, or Emerald "Breakfast on the Go" granola packs are really all we need.

We always grab breakfast in the room. It's just cheaper that way. But I bring granola bars, pop tarts, make trail mix, fruit snacks stuff of that nature. We never wanted to spend the money on a mini fridge but since AoA has them I might bring other things.

We have always eaten breakfast in our room too. We drive down from Canada and after unpacking the van upon arrival, we usually head to the Sam's Club just off property to buy a few groceries for the room. We tend to go for the already mentioned items, such as the bagels and cereal/milk and fruit and granola bars and such. But we also buy a cheap toaster, either down there or just before we leave back home, so that we can have toast with PB&J some mornings or at least toast our bagels if we want to, or Pop Tarts too. Gives us a little variety to work with. :)

Well my party and I typically have the convenience of having a full kitchen (have a timeshare) but even when I am staying in a room that only has a fridge and maybe a microwave I still will pack:

Breakfast & Snacks
Apples
Bananas
Bagels
Chips
Cheese
Crackers
Dip
Granola Bars
Gatorade
Juice
Muffins
Oranges
Salsa
Tons of Water

Just enough stuff to get by in the morning or between meals when lounging around the room or pool.

We try to keep it healthy for Breakfest since we eat lots of junk in the parks. I also found the kids and DH and I just crashed on pastry/fruit bars/pop tarts. We get clean organic cereal, almond milk, yogurts, cliff bars, fruit, pita, peanut butter, cheese sticks and hummus. There are 6 of us and my kids eat a lot so little is left or wasted. Like others have said we also get some pretzles, gold fish, water, beer and juice. We have shopped ourselves and done Garden Grocer which I found to be easier and cost effective. 10 days is a long time to eat granola bars, what do you eat at home?

i find it shocking in this civilised day and age that someone wouldn't have a maid to look after his wife..even my chauffeur agrees with me on this.

Look at slighty different/better granola bars? I could easily get bored of eating a box of Quaker granola bars, but grabbing a few different Kashi, or KIND bars goes a huge way to mixing it up. Prices on those can range, your local grocery store is probably $2-3 for a 6 pack of Kashi, or you could get fancy organic meal replacement bars for $3 each.

I think after I get a good list of things to bring, I'll compare prices on Garden Grocer vs. the cost of buying it at Walmart at home & then shipping it. I have a sneaky feeling that once I add in the cost to ship it to the resort it will come out pretty close and I may go with the Garden Grocer option as well.

Keep in mind that Garden Grocer also had a delivery charge if your order is under $200. You can also look at wegoshop.com They are basically a private shopper, shop where you ask them to, you pay exactly what the receipt totals, plus a service charge. You may or may not do better with one over the other.

However, if you are planning on possibly just shipping stuff down, maybe take a look at Amazon's prices as well? They have a whole breakfast food section here -> http://www.amazon.com/Breakfast-Foods-Grocery/b/ref=sv_gro_1?ie=UTF8&node=16310251 Works well if you have Amazon Prime. For instance, they have 6 boxes (36 bars) of Kashi Dark Mocha Almond bars for $12.80, with Prime 2 day. Or 4 14oz boxes of Cheerios for $11.88 with Prime. One box of Cheerios would be $5.19 through Garden Grocer, or $5.09 for 1 box of the Kashi bars. They aren't always cheaper, but just something to keep in mind.

Remember that bread products from the resort gift store should cost no more than your grocery store. This is since they are usually pre-priced directly on the plastic package, so there is no markup. The selection may be a bit light unless you are at a DVC resort, but it's something to keep in mind.

We always bring bagels and cream cheese. I know you're thinking "cream cheese?!?!? Wouldn't it spoil?" And the answer is no - well at least not for us. We put our refrigerated foods in our collapsible cooler with ice packs (like the ones you put in lunches) and then put them in our suitcase. The suitcases stay basically frozen for both flights and then the cooler keeps them from spoiling. We put creamer in there too for our coffee (which we also bring from home because we prefer it to the hotel coffee. We have bagels and cream cheese like every day. But, we also bring little cereal boxes and paper bowls. We buy milk and steal spoons at the hotel. The collapsible cooler has been great for us. a couple of times during our trip my DH will go down to the quick service restaurant and get grapes or some other fruit too, but we are considering just bringing applesauce the next time around because that wouldn't even need to be cooled and the kids would like it (and it'd save us some $$ buying fruit).

Cereal... we usually pick up milk at the resort.
Muffins ... homemade, wrapped
Granola Bars ... just bring variety, some chewy's ... some more healthy versions
Fruit... either from the resort or stop at a grocery store

We always eat breakfast in the room, I certainly don't want to be walking 12-15 miles a day with sausage and bacon weighing me down.
