Brave wins Golden Globe!

Don't expect either one to win the Academy Award, which will go to FrankenWeenie....its about politics of who is in and who is out as far as anything else -- The Foreign Press Association is a group of 85 people who throw the GOlden Globes as an advertisement for themselves, and they often have VERY different taste -- witness Argo's win for Best Picture -- where it doesn't stand a chance for the Academy Awards...

I thought that if a nominee won the globe, then the odds they would with the oscar were heightened? It always has in the past.

I haven't seen frankenweenie yet, but I have seen wreck it Ralph. Which do you guys think will win the Oscar if either of them do?

Bad call. I haven't seen Frankenweenie, but Wreck It Ralph is a far better film than Brave. Brave was one of Pixar's worst films. That being said, it's not entirely a bad film, just weak by Pixar standards.

Here are the results for the animated feature category for the years when both the Oscars and Golden Globes have given out this award. They both picked the same move 4 out of 6 times, and all four times were Pixar movies. Cars 2 is the only Pixar movie that the the Golden Globes didn't pick as Best Animated Feature.

2012 Golden Globes: Adventures of Tintin
Oscar: Rango
2011 Golden Globes: Toy Story 3
Oscar: Toy Story 3
2010 Golden Globes: Up
Oscar: Up
2009 Golden Globes: Wall-E
Oscar: Wall-E
2008 Golden Globes: Ratatouille
Oscar: Ratatouille
2007 Golden Globes: Cars
Oscar: Happy Feet

Yeah, Brave was fine, but Wreck It Ralph was the far superior film. I'd love to see Wreck It Ralph win the Oscar. Haven't seen Frankenweenie though.

Brave picked up the Best Animated Film award at the BAFTAs (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) yesterday, it was up against Frankenweenie and ParaNorman. Wreck-It-Ralph was probably not eligible this year since it was just released in the UK.

Brave - Great film, but low on the list for Pixar films

Wreck it Ralph - Best thing to come from Disney Animation in a while, but I felt the story could have been paced better. I'd put Brave above it.

Frankenweenie - This movie was the best animated this year in my opinion. The story and visuals were so perfect I forgot I was watching a black and white film!

And just because it was mentioned on the thread...

Hotel Transylvania - I really liked this one! It was on the level of all the others on this list, but it's different type of humour might make more serious movie-goers down vote it.

So basically, Frankenweenie deserves the Oscar IMO.

Well I was wrong with my post above, Disney pulls of a 2 oscar winning night by winning the Best Animated Feature award for Brave and the Best Animated Short for Paperman.

See, Brave just won. I knew it would.

In the case of Brave, it was technically more superior than both Wreck-It-Ralph and/or anything else on that list.

When they select the winner, they are not just selecting the film that had a strong story, but one that was also technically groundbreaking. The amount of hair on Meridas head was stunning and the fact that all those curls were individualized and moved free and different than the other curls is it's achievement. I realize that many may not agree that it's groundbreaking, but that much movement is not seen in any other animated films. There is a realism in that kind of hair and after viewing all of the films that were nominated, only brave added that sense of realism.

Wreck-It Ralph was okay I thought, but it didn't really jump out at me the way Disney films used to and technically it was just another 3D animated movie. It didn't do anything that I hadn't already seen in various other 3D animated films.

Frankenweenie REALLY didn't do anything for me. As much as I love NIghtmare Before Christmas and some of the other Burton films, they all have the same feel to them.

I thought the other nominees were okay with ParaNorman really being the bottom of my barrel. I can't believe I watched it actually.....
