Bowling

BORING! Although bowling can be fun, if you are at WDW, you better do something more exciting and exotic than bowling which can be found in almost EVERY town across the country.

Yeah, the same way everything else at PI (clubs, shopping, dining) can be found in EVERY town across the country too. ;)

Doesn't stop PI from being quite the popular place.

I did see bowling balls for sale at the Pop Century: Unfortunately, no WDW logo on them, just characters.

They sell the Disney balls at bowling alleys.

I think it would be cool to have a bowling alley. Sure you go to the parks and such all the time you are at Disney, most likely. But it still would be nice to be able to go bowling after a day at the parks or even if you just had a day at the resort. Nice way to unwind.

Bowling was discussed a couple years ago on this forum and I think it would be nice to have bowling there. During the humid days of July/August, a couple hours in air conditioned comfort would be a welcome respite. It would offer a place to hide out during the pouring rain. I'm 46 and have been bowling for as long as I can remember as had my parents before me. My parents were league bowlers and so are my husband and I. It's great to see the resurgence in bowling. I am not aware of the "bad reputation" that Woody speaks of since it was always considered a wholesome family outing in our house. The profitability of a bowling alley on WDW property is most likely the issue. The lanes in Chicago stay open and are profitable because of league bowlers. Where my husband and I bowl, there are leagues nights Sunday through Friday with Saturday being reserved for Cosmic/Candlelight events. Without the benefit of leagues guaranteeing a full house everynight, most bowling establishments could not survive. This might be the WDW issue.

For us - Our local bowling alley has league bowls everyday of the week but Sat and Sun. Open bowling doesn't start until 9 pm, it starts from opening until 4pm, then they are closed for oiling and leagues starting at 5. It's actually a little annoying that they are leagues that long and every day, just because my husband has to go to sleep early so we don't get to bowl except weekend, unless he has Tuesday or Thursday off (they have all you can bowl night for 1 price)

I think if Disney offered bowling it would still be profitable, because as mentioned it would be an escape from the rain and also from the heat, as well as a rest from all the walking around the parks. To be able to take 1-2 hours of your time to bowl would be a welcome break at times, at least for hubby and myself.

I would LOVE a bowling place in Disney. In fact, I was just thinking about this last week.

It might not be popular with the out of town guests, but I bet it would be a big hit with the locals. I would certainly enjoy it.

I belive a bowling alley was originally planned for EPCOT, as well as an ice skating rink. This, of coarse, fell to the way side. What leaves me dumbfounded is how many people complain the Speedway at MK is useless because you can drive little go-carts at home. I think we can all visit a bowling alley at home...the speedway has Disney twists and people still complain, why would a bowling alley be any different? perhaps one for CM's would work...if it were to be public I would have to say PI. Not trying to start anything, just my $0.02 on it.
