Just a little Tidbit!

For those of us in the Boston Area Channel 5 (ABC-WCVB Boston) will not be able to see the Mission to Mars Special (with Mission:Space segments) Due to a Pre-Season football game that will be on!!!

R U serious?! See, that's why I moved away from Boston. Those TV programmers don't have their priorities straight. :)

I know its a longshot, but will this special be webcast as well?

I'm sure, with all these great people on the boards someone will make it available to us eventually. :-)

They do have there priorities straight, any programmer for TV in this country would pick preseason NFL football anyday over some mars special

Yeah, I know that. Just trying to promote the Disney spirit. Are we talking about a Pats game hosted by Mike Dowling (sp)?

Dowling is usually on the sidelines.

Don Criqui and Jerry Glanville usually do play by play

It has nothing to do with the station programer, Contractual obligations are the reason, and to give you some insight. sports programming is more profitable for a station than network programming. Where Money is concerned the station will choose profit over a few inconveinenced viewers. and will usually air the program later in the programming day usually after the local news when local stations are responsible for that time of day in ther program schedual. since TV guide has it listed later in the evening , this was planned since the sports contracts where signed off on, this kind of sports preemptions occure in Chicago all the time and Saturday is no exception for us. Our local NBC affiliate is the new Broadcast home for the Bears for the next few seasons and will be preempting the prime time lineup. NBC must be aware of this since there is what I call Junk programming on this Saturday, Two 1/2 shows of just shoot me ( Accually a good show) and a Battle of the Network stars special, and instead of running the prime time shows later after SNL, there replaying the Bears game instead so this is where out programes is going.

Believe me, I realize this (see post above). My cousin is an Assistant Programming Director @ a station in NYC.

Mission Space Special? According to Direct TV, it's the movie "Mission to Mars", which was released in 2000 and has nothing to do with the ride. It does however star Gary Sinise.

Yeah, i see what you mean, i just checked out my onscreen guide. It starts at 12:35am tomorrow(actually monday morning) right after the Practice rerun on Ch. 5 WCVB.

But the timing of it coinciding with Mission Space leads me to think that if they aren't doing a 30 minute intro, then it will most likely be snippets all throughout the movie as intros/outros from commercials.

It'd be silly for them not to, since very few even know it(M:S) exists unless they know someone who's done it this summer or they spend time on sites like these, which is the clear minority.

This is what was on the MissionSpace website a week or so ago

Catch the network broadcast premiere of "Mission to Mars" on ABC Saturday, Aug. 16th at 8:00pm et/pt. Actor Jerry O' Connell will take you on a behind-the-scenes tour of Mission: SPACE throughout the broadcast--and look for a special appearance by Buzz Aldrin!

I watched it tonight and I was really disapointed. It was to me more like a bunch of short commercials tacked on, more fluff than substance. I know more about M:S from this site than what was on tonight. Disney doesn't have the same production values with teasers for new attractions like they did while Walt was alive and in the interveining years before the management change in the 80s. I remember when NBC had TWWoD they would have devoted a segment of the program to Mission Space if not make an entire show out of it. I know that this is not the official opening, But I would like to see what program they come up with in October when the press event happens
