Bonnet Creek Resort

When I was leaving "the World" last month, I passed the entrance to the new Bonnet Creek Resort. I previously spoke with a CM and they told me this is not a Disney property, but they were pretty much forced by the state to allow the owners access to I-4 through Disney property. Has anyone seen this resort and what is the story with this property, Thanks

It is a non-disney owned timeshare.

All of the hotels in the downtown disney area are non disney-hotels, as well as the Swan and Dolphin.

Disney allows them to build on their property, so they have to allow them access.

Except Swan and dolphin (and probably all of the other DTD hotels) have a better relationship with disney than bonnet creek :). Also, bonnet creek is not on Disney property AFAIK.

Actually, no the Bonnet Creek Resort is not on Disney property. The resort is bounded on three sides by Disney property and accessible via Buena Vista Drive. It is one of the old "inholdings" within the Disney area.

And knowing Disney could not access this land, it's a shame they built Caribbean Beach right next door to it, and Pop Century kinda close too. It's a shame to ahve to see such a drastic change to the Caribbean Beach skyline, meaning the forest is not nearly as thick behind Martinique and the Trinidads, and you can see the hotel itself from the Trinidad parking lots.

The Downtown Disney Hotels and the Swan and Dolphin are are in disney property due to earleir partnership aggrements. The Bonnet Creek Resort is not on Disney property, but surroundered by Disney property. Thus disney had to give access to the resort through their property.

I am not sure how much is true about Disney hating this resort. They have been given good neighbor status and they have the ability to add theme park days to your room key just like Disney resorts. My parents happen to be Fairfiled members and we stayed there last month for a week. It is a very nice resort although I miss being surrounded by the magic 24/7 by staying off property. The access to the roads is due to easements that were built in when Disney swallowed up all of the property to begin with. The story I have heard regarding the land was that the Family who owned it was upset because they were not offered a fair price for their land originally, so they decided to hold out. Once the decision was made to finally get rid of the land, Disney offered a bit more than Fairfield, but the family was so hurt from before they decided to sell it to Fairfield instead. I doubt that this resort will hurt anyone in the long run as it is a different atmosphere from Disney resorts.

If I am not mistaken the entry to Bonnet Creek resort is actually on Disney property or due to a ruling Disney was forced to sell it to Fairfield. Fairfield sued Disney several years ago because the property that they owned was surrounded by Disney property and Disney would not allow them to build an access road across their property so they could develop it. Needless to say Disney lost that battle and now we have the Bonnet Creek resort.

I’m sorry but that is incorrect. The resort is NOT on Disney property. The resort is surrounded by Disney property, and the entrance and entrance road is on Disney property however the resort is NOT on Disney property.

In reguard to an earlier reference about the Swan and Dolfin. Swan and Dolfin were built by Disney. They leased the management rights out to the current management company. At least that is what the CM told us on the Illuminations Cruise.

Oy. No. The Swan and Dolphin were APPROVED by Disney, but not built by TWDC, in any way.

That is very well likely the case. I was suprised the CM that was our captian new enough about boats to actually get us where we were going. He also mentioned something about that big trangular looking area being the area where the monorail was supposed to go through. That in itself kinda led me to believe something was up.

Bonnet Creek Resort is not technically on Disney Property. It is on a piece of land that the original owner refused to sell to Disney back in the 1960's. The owner's family later sold the land to Fairfield Inn who built and owns the time share resort on that property. In accordance to Florida law, since the property is land locked, Disney was required to (and did so willingly) provide an access road to the nearest public road. Although Reedy Creek Improvment District (Disney's govening body) did impose curtain building code requirements (such as hight restrictions) there is currently no bad will between Disney and Bonnet Creek Resort.

The Walt Disney World Swan and Walt Disney World Dolphin are official hotels of Walt Disney World Resort, and are both leased and managed by Starwood Hotels & Resorts. The property, the buildings and their designs are owned by Disney, but Starwood maintains the buildings, and manages the hotels. They pay Disney a fee for guest transportation and, like the Hilton, also pay a fee to be part of the Extra Magic Hours.

Hope this helps to dispells the rumors!

I've heard that rumour several times before also. Don't know how much merit to put in it!!
