BOMA vs JIKO

I will be taking three other adults out to eat at the AKL during our next trip. I have eaten at BOMA before and greatly enjoyed it. I have heard great things about JIKO as well and can not decide which would be best for our little group. The rest of the party have never even seen the AKL. Any opinions?

Wow! This is a hard one because they're both really good. I think it depends on your group. Boma offers a variety of fare that is typical of a buffet, but on the other hand Jiko's dining atmosphere is great for a group of adults out for a great dinner. If push came to shove, I would choose Jiko. The pan roasted monkfish is reason alone to go. The oak grilled filet minon is also recommended. I wasn't too impressed by the butternut squash soup. You would definitely impress the group with a dinner here. I say Jiko all the way.

I cannot comment fairly, in that I have not tried Boma. When I stayed at AKL, I did Jiko because I am not a buffet fan. I like table service. Saying that, Jiko was the best dining experience I have ever had at WDW. I just wish I could go more to get the experience to comment fairly... :hammer:

Not been to Jiko, I tried the cheaper alternative of Boma and loved the food. It's great to try new tastes.

But if the budget goes to Jiko I think Cherrynegra's post would sway the decision to that fine establishment.

I appreciate everyones help. I do think that having tried Boma, we will do Jiko this next time. Also thanks for the menu suggestions.

I was a little against going to Boma the first time for this same reason, but the food and enviroment are so good and put you in such a great mood that you forget that it is a buffet. It just became a big family feast for us. We loved it.

Done both, and done Boma for breakdast and dinner. In my opinion, Jiko is the better for dinner. I just didn't care for Boma too much for dinner. However, the breakfast is wonderfull at Boma, and along with Kona Cafe, is some of the best eating in the morning at WDW.

But for dinner, I'd do Jiko over Boma. And it's not that Boma is bad or anything. Very good service and food, I just didn't care much for the dinner selection, liked the breakfast selection much more.

And it's hard for Boma to compete against Jiko, as Jiko is a much higher scale place to eat.

Good eating! :slurp:

It is a tough choice, because they are both very different. If you want a more casual buffet, then Boma is the choice. If you are looking for a fancier sit down dinner then Jiko is what you want. It will really come down to the atmosphere and meal you are looking to get.

Both are great places to eat for dinner but both offer relatively different experiences between the two.

Boma is a buffet and offers a wide variety of tastes to try. You will certainly find something you will really really enjoy going back for seconds, thirds, and forths. But because people are up and moving around a lot, the restaurant is louder and while not un-peaceful, it certainly more active. Also tends to attract families so you'll see a lot more children around. The restaurant's decor is a brightly lit and the space is open with high ceilings that give it a casual fun feel.

Jiko has a much more subdued and upscale atmosphere. The restaurant is darker and more secluded. There are some great examples of african inspired decorations with some unqiue lighting. One wall has lights that change colors throughout your meal. They go from African sunrise to sunset every 20 minutes or so. It's a great place for a quieter dinner for two or for a group of adults. The menu offers some great entrees but also some very good small plates, almost tapas style, if you want to get a few different tastes to try. Also has a very excellent collection of South African wines.

You already pretty much decided on Jiko, but I'd suggest you find out how adventurous the other people are in your party. Granted, Jiko isn't TOO "out there" but Boma has dishes that I think will seem more familiar-just different enough to seem exotic.

And if you have one Whiny Baby in the group that thinks everything is too wild and scary, there's always the kids' buffet table at Boma. A little mac and cheese would turn that frown upside down. :)
