BOG Alternatives

Well, sadly for the first time ever at 180 days I was still unable to book BOG for dinner. I'll try again later in the week to see if I can snag an ADR for our last day. But just in case, what other 1 credit TS restaurants in MK or at one of the MK resorts, do you suggest for 3 20-somethings? We are already doing 'Ohana. So I guess we are left with:

Kona Cafe
Grand Floridian Cafe
The Wave
Chef Mickey's
Whispering Canyon Cafe
Crystal Palace
Liberty Tree Tavern
The Plaza
Tony's Town Square

Food is more important than atmosphere for us, at the same time, I have one very picky eater who isn't open to trying anything new.

Kona has great food and is one of the better 1 credit values on that list for dinner. I think the menu is diverse enough that you wouldn't feel it steps on the toes of 'Ohana too much. Also has a wonderful dessert in the Kilauea Torte.

You might want to try booking a BOG reservation for 2... Just show up early with the 3rd member of your party and they'll almost certainly be able to fit all of you under that reservation.

Kona, The Plaza and Chef Mickeys are my top 3 faves from your list! The Plaza is a hidden gem in the MK- the food is wonderful! Best fries I have ever had in my life have been from The Plaza! Kona has always been a favorite for years! Chef Mickeys for dinner or breakfast? I love breakfast there.. that is just what we prefer.

I tried that. I tried looking for 4 as well and got nothing. I'm assuming people are taking advantage of 180+10. Because it was the only reservation that was unable even at 6 am. I tried calling and was told again nothing was available. But I'll keep trying for another day in the week.

Don't give up on BOG.
I tried two, three, and sometimes four, times a day, at all hours of the day and night, for over a month, before I snagged a reservation for Dinner.

I was really surprised that nothing was available. Never had an issue getting BOG at 180 days. But I will!

We need time for things to happen.
First off as @UncleMike101 mentioned I wouldn't give up the ghost just yet.
If you're set on BOG, I would keep trying I'd be willing to bet you snag something.

If not:

I would go with Kona as it's the best "food" over atmosphere choice on your list.
With Liberty Tree as your back up because of your "picky" eater (straight up 'merican cooking there).

I have 3 picky eaters to deal with (wife and 2 kids) and the lunch menu actually appealed to them more than dinner menu...te turkey sandwhich and the braised dish were both fantastic and my boys had the pasta...

I would say book something else (Kona is one of our favourites) just so you have something, but keep trying for BOG if you really want it. We also tried on our 180 day mark, but nothing was available even for the end of our trip. Tried a few days later and an opening for dinner popped up. Good luck.

I'm with Shookie. Kona is my first choice and LTT my second. I have never had a bad meal at either one of those.

Definitely don't give up. I have this ridiculous game I play when I'm stressed at work and need a jolt of Disney dining fun. I start searching dates over the upcoming week for BOG openings. Ya know...just in case I wanted to pick up and drive 1,000 miles for dinner on Thursday ;) While I don't get openings all the time, I usually find a couple here and there.

I also didn't see 1900 PF in your list. Some of the food was good while other things were meh, but I did notice quite a few 20-somethings there just having fun the last time we ate dinner at 1900 PF. I was even a smidge jealous when Prince Charming only asked my girls to dance. :p If you're not looking for characters, I'd probably flip a coin between GFC and Kona.

As everyone has said, definitely keep checking back for BOG! We already have dining reservations for our wedding/honeymoon in June, but every once in a while I'll go on a "planning kick" and browse availability on the website, and I have seen BOG pop up several times. And if not for dinner, definitely try BOG for lunch. I actually prefer it for lunch, but we're splurging and doing dinner for our honeymoon this time around. :D

Of the other restaurants, I actually LOVE Grand Floridian Cafe. I think it's a "hidden gem" at the Grand Floridian. My fiance and I booked a same-day reservation there "on a whim" last summer, and it turned out to be one of the best meals I've ever had on-property. The atmosphere was lovely and relaxing (so different from the hubbub of the park restaurants), the food was delicious and well-priced, and I just love being surrounded by the opulence of the Grand Floridian -- makes you feel fancy just being there!

And although I've never eaten there, I'd also recommend Whispering Canyon Cafe. We're having our wedding's welcome dinner there in June, and we're SO EXCITED. I've wanted to try it for years!

Anyway, good luck with whatever you decide!
