News Bob Iger Reveals Disney May Develop Figment Content Beyond EPCOT

In all seriousness this is so bizarre to me. After allowing a report to go public about a movie, teasing him around the studios, & then nothing for almost over a year. Now this?? I’d be less shocked if it weren’t for the fact they’re tripling down on this very minor detail of a shareholders call.

If this weren’t as big as they’re making out to be, then I wouldn’t think much of it but Disney themselves doubling down on this... Either something legitimate is afoot due to Epic, OR in the more likely scenario they actually think this is enough to maintain their fanbase.

They MUST be self aware of this the way they’ve gone about teasing us. There’s no way they can keep this up for another 5 years. They’re clearly running out of ideas of what to do with Figment aside from fixing the ride, rehashing potential opportunities in film/TV. It’s like they’re forcibly trying to burn us out so they can give him the boot someday when none of us give a damn. 1998 all over again

Yeah…keep ignoring the real issue Bob.

🤬

Bob the media guy…suggesting…new media for a character they have done little with besides merchandising since gutting his Original masterwork of an Attraction back in 1998.

We need more then just yet another Flash animation ‘animated’ series or attention span killing ‘short form video for the TikTok generation’ offering, Bob.
For the last 20+ years you know darn well what needs to be done, but yet AGAIN the real issue ( the Attraction ) is being ignored.

There really seems to be a backhanded push from within the Company to do absolutely nothing of any real substance related to the Attraction and the Pavillon that contains it.
This is incredibly infuriating.
So much potential there being wasted and utterly ignored…for over two decades now.
😑

However - nothing exposes media better than tv and social media.
And of course Bob knows this.
Producing a new short series will get the character in front of millions of eager eyeballs and may even attract some new fans to the fold.
That means more merchandise sales.
Ca-Ching!

On a more positive note, it can also mean that if the series is a success, the Company may finally get serious about this matter and make some worthwhile changes.
Perhaps it could finally be the push that makes those in change seriously rethink the entire Pavillon.
.
Could be interesting…could be awful…..anything is possible with the imagination.

Remember when there actually used to be something imaginative in the Imagination Pavillon?
It had been a LONG, long time….but I was there when it was freshly opened and by the Gods it was spectacular and changed lives.
Today it is a total WASTE of interior space.
Even the gift shop at the exit is a shadow of it’s former self from just a few years ago.

If only today’s ’Disney’ still had some imagination…
As the years go by more and more of it seems to be slipping away.
Leaving with all the talent that has been purged or forced ‘into early retirement’.

There needs to be a imaginative experience with Figment within that Pavillon again.
TikTok shorts and a streaming series is just not that immersive, Bob.
Gotta take it to a higher (quality) level and outside of the square sized ( or rectangular sized ) viewing screen.

Get on it.

Wait, you need some help?

I know a man who could help.
Would make a real difference in the quality of the experience.
He has already proven himself…several times.

Too bad your Company has already destroyed and removed a few of his stellar efforts.
Jealously runs rampant in certain creative departments, I am well aware.

SMDH. Just upgrade the ride already. You've done like 3 upgrades to Gran Fiesta in the last 10 years, but you can't upgrade this hunk of crap?

"We are well aware of what our park guests want, and it's not a re-do of this ride. They want more alcohol and more overpriced small-plate food. We will invest our capital resources appropriately to provide the guests with more of what they are looking for and provide better financial results for me." - Bob Iger('s thoughts that he was told not to say out loud)

I'm just waiting for the headline "Bog Iger is Removed" or "Bob Iger Gone for Good".

Disney will not improve until then. Sadly it won't be for another decade until people see and fully comprehend the true damage that this narcissist has done to the brand.
Don't forget the lobotomy that needs to happen within the management structure he has created. Too many of his loyal "Yes" men infest the company.

I have 0 confidence in the current board of directors, look at how they handled the Chapek situation in his final year as the civil war started to heat up between his loyalists and critics.

Also consider how top-heavy and management-bloated the company is. Inter-departmental communication is a joke, there's too many disconnected divisions and no cohesive strategy amongst leaders to allow for proper execution on projects (think about all the rumoured changing plans for Frontierland's future before they eventually settled on Cars and axing the ROA fully).

The company needs sweeping changes that will fundamentally change how they operate and how they strategise but it seems like a gargantuan task that'll be very difficult and costly to undergo if anyone even cared enough to attempt it. There are many benefits to cleaning things up, including financial, but the truth is as a profit machine, Disney is currently doing pretty solidly, so they don't need to try.

Insane how people here are so allergic to optimism that they’ll spin the CEO saying “we know people like figment, including guests and shareholders, and we want to do more with him” as a negative.

“Oh but he didn’t mention the ride so it MUST be neglected in the future” “They’ll do anything but figment in Epcot” “they’ll use it as an excuse to say he’s somewhere else and get rid of him” like I know it’s not the thing we want to hear but GOD have some optimism. They didn’t assassinate him or anything. This is a GOOD sign.

Do you people even like Disney parks?

I’ve realized something. This isn’t them saying “we’ll do anything for figment unless redo the ride”.

This is an attempt from them to try and make the backlash from the last few months against them go away. They think bringing up figment again is gonna restart the hype and happiness train and make everyone forget about the bad stuff and like them again.

When are they gonna realize it’s not gonna work. Can’t get out of this one Disney.
This you?
