News Bob Iger Outlines Disney's Growing AI Strategy

I'm not sure that's true. Private businesses are generally creating/hosting their own internal versions of AI software, because they don't want their data available to the public. Obviously they need the assistance of a company like OpenAI to get it up and running (although I think most are using Microsoft or Google), but the individual user version of ChatGPT (and competitors) will essentially be a different product that accesses different information. It's not like the individual user version will stop costing astronomical sums to run; I don't see enterprise use generating enough money to cover the cost of millions of people using the public version.
Except that is what they are already doing, quite a few large companies already license their LLM through OpenAI Enterprise and business version of ChatGPT called ChatGPT Business. I'm using their LLM right now at work via an enterprise license. Many companies are doing this right now.

Also ChatGPT Pro, the top individual version that I believe you're talking about, is only 2.5K per year not 5K.

I'm sure Bob and Josh's ultimate goal is to create a LLM that tells you how great of a time you had at WDW, complete with computer-generated pictures and videos, all for a $10k credit card charge.

Just like ‘Total Recall’….!

Most of the large companies I'm aware of are using Microsoft/Google (my law firm, which is one of the largest in the world, is using Microsoft, and that's what most of our clients are using), but I'm sure plenty are also using OpenAI.

ChatGPT Pro is not what I'm talking about -- OpenAI is still operating at a massive loss. They haven't priced anything in order to reach profitability, because they really can't at the moment if they want to keep pulling in investment money.

"AI" isn't going to go away, but it is likely to experience a major collapse in the next year or two as the bubble bursts. The companies running it don't currently have a path to profitability in the "AI" department, and at least thus far, companies that are trying to incorporate it are not seeing the results they were hoping for. That's not to suggest it isn't useful, because it is -- just not at the level they were hoping so far.

It is very good at certain tasks, and very very bad at others.

I'm not saying it'll be profitable tomorrow, next week, or even next year. Just that they have a way to make it profitable through their enterprise model in the future. I won't go into details but I can tell you they have a few companies paying millions right now on that enterprise model. Don't think small to medium or even relatively large businesses like your law firm, think some of the top Fortune 500 companies. And the LLMs are being expanded so they can both pull from pubic as well as private data, securely of course. So a company can use it to bring in not only public data from the internet but also private data from their internal resources for their users, whether they be internal or external, ie tailored to the audience. So its expanding from where it was even just a year ago only being able to pull from public data.

And yes AI isn't going away, it'll get better and smarter as time goes on. That search engine analogy was a perfect way to describe this. AI right now is where search was back in the early 90s, by the mid 00s it was able to bring back fairly accurate results, and now with AI integration its able to bring back almost near perfect results. I test this every day as part of my job.

What about the people who literally can't do chores or housework because of disabilities. To them AI will be a godsend. I can't drive so I know it will make my life a heck of a lot easier.
How do you think AI will make your life easier because you can't drive? I'm not getting the connection.

That is good to hear but there are people who have much more problems than I do that would really benefit from AI. I understand the technology is in its infancy but I can see that it might be useful to many people in the future. I do worry about the negative aspects too especially when it comes to the realms of the arts.
They’re going to benefit from people actually working on their challenges, not a magic robot.

I don’t want to answer for them but the great work being done at Tesla AI would certainly help. With the release of 14.1.7 Self Driving is very clearly going to be solved and soon.

So as long as you are able to get into the car you will be able to drive.

If your handicap doesn’t allow you to get into the car, then a humanoid robot like Optimus will one day be able to assist with that.

Uber and Lyft can do the exact same thing - with humans.
Would just like to point out that these are not the same at all. It's very hard and expensive for example to get any ride over 1 hr which is not uncommon in the US and any small trips, including stops along the way add up QUICKLY.

To get to my local airport, it costs $125 each way, before tip. That cost would add up incredibly quickly.

The US is not made for people who cannot drive.

Self-Driving Cars, obviously.
Again, Waymo, one of if not the most advanced self driving car systems isn’t powered by Gemini or any other sort of generative AI such as is fueling the AI hype train.
In my experience unless the people helping are neurodivergent themselves. Most of the "Help" given tends to backfire.
You’re adding on a criteria that also doesn’t apply to generative AI or even you’re one specific example of self-driving cars.

Not respecting Waymo after what they did to KitKat </3
