Boardwalk vs Beach Club

Hi all,

We are planning a September 2014 trip and I have a couple of quick questions for you knowledgable DVC people. My mom's home resort is Boardwalk and she will be booking the room for us. DW and I would really like to stay at the Beach Club because the pool is supposed to be so great and we'll be taking DS for his first trip. He'll be just over 2 then. My mom would most likely also be joining us.

So, is it a pain for my mom to book boardwalk for now and rebook BC if its available? I don't want to ask her to do something super annoying so we can go in the cool pool.
Also, do you think we would comfortably fit in a one bedroom with 3 adults and a 2yo? DW thinks we really need a two bedroom. Are the room set ups the same at BW and BC? We've stayed at BW several times. I think a one bedroom might be a little tight, but we're family.

Thoughts greatly appreciated!

An air mattress or two might be wise, but you should be ok with five in a one bedroom. Just as long as DVC knows this when you book. Don't try to sneak in extra people.

Changing your reservation at the 7 month window is easy, especially over the phone. Just call at exactly 9 a.m. eastern time on the exact date that your 7 month kicks in.

Good luck.

What @Ralphlaw said.

A few additional points.

Your 2 year old won't know any better; will have a great time in both pools. At that age, ours thought the All Star Music was the greatest pool ever.:)

If you want to stay at BCV, do it for yourselves.

I assume the 2-year old will sleep on the floor with the parents, in which case a one-bedroom villa is plenty of space for 3 adults. At that age, ours thought sleeping on the floor was an adventure.:)

BCV and BWV rooms are basically the same, mostly just different in décor.

Be more concerned about comfort. If you go with a one-bedroom, which adult is ready to sleep on a foldout sofa? WDW's aren't bad but, in the end, it's still is a foldout.

For a DVC veteran, switching from BWV to BCV takes just a few minutes but no one know better than you how your mother will handle it. Will she stress over having to rebook or take it in stride? You have to answer that one.

Also consider if your mother will be offended if you don't want to stay at her Home Resort. Some want to show off their "home away from home". Some DVC members take it personally. Seriously.

My two year old loved the shallow sand bottom area of the pool at Beach Club. But then you have sand all over your room. They're both great, though.

Thanks! We would never sneak people in. It's just not us. Makes us squirmy.

My main concern was not causing a hassle for my mom. If its easy, then I think this will be the plan!

My mom loves BW, but she also loves checking out new places. If the Grand Floridian weren't so many points, and we didn't love the location of he Epcot resorts so much, we might try for those. I'm sure she would love to try them out.

I suspect my mom will be on the foldout because we will want to be able to put DS to sleep in the bedroom before we all go to bed. She's slept on disney fold outs before without a problem, but maybe I'll leave that up to her.

And, you're right about the pool not really being for DS. It looks like a super cool pool, and I don't really like the boardwalk pool. Creepy clown slide just isn't for me.

Will the Food and Wine be on when you plan to visit?
If it is you will need to book BW at 11mth and just stick with it. You may struggle to get a 1br at 7mth.
Hopefully(?) we will miss the food and wine. It's a lot of fun, but I think it's usually towards the end of September and we're planning to be there early-mid September. My mom's birthday is the 5th, so we may try to be there for that. If so, we should miss the F&WF. If we go a bit later it's possible the end of our trip could catch the first couple days. Does anybody know when they post those dates? Would we know 7 months out?

Oh. I don't like sand all over. Good to know. We'll have to bring tons of baby powder.

Thanks for the heads up!

Switching resorts at 7 months is very easy, and a simple 5-10 minute phone call with DVC. We have done it many times, and always over the phone with DVC. I would highly recommend NOT using the on-line system unless your mother has enough points to cover both reservations at the same time. On-line you would need to cancel the BWV reservation, and then do a second transaction to book BCV, which may take several minutes to complete. I believe the DVC reservationists can pretty much do that as one quick transaction in their systems. If you are going a few weeks prior to Food&Wine, it is possible to get a 1bdr then. Just make sure that she calls at exactly the 7 month mark, or you may miss out. Good luck!!

Just wanted to add that I don't think that Stormalong Bay is that great, personally I think it's overated. The whole area is to confusing and to go down the slide you need to physically leave the area and go along the pathway towards Epcot just to lineup for it.

My parents own at Bw and my wife and I own at BC. We love both resorts and the Epcot area. I have stayed at both and the reason we picked BC to buy at was that fact that we felt it was more alive. There were more families with smaller children etc and since we now have a six month old we felt it was the better choice. My parents bought at BW because the hotel felt quieter and that's what they were looking for. So it all depends on what you want. Don't get me wrong kids are welcomed everywhere I'm just talking about the overall feel of both places as why we bought where we bought. Either way you will have a great time! I would talk to your mom and compare the pros and cons of Borg resorts and see what everyone wants to do. And FYI the pool is amazing at BC! I have never been a clown person myself lol. We also love the BC slide...our rule is you have to use the slide to get into our pool every time you get out lol. good luck and again either way is a great decision!

I was thinking the same thing. In fact, many people feel the Beach Club pool is not a good choice with small children because the pool area is so large and has poor sight lines.

Never seen the beach club pool, but the boardwalk pool is pretty awesome IMHO. What does the beach club pool offer that is unique?

Thanks, just joined DVC in July.

Thanks for all the advice! I hear you guys about the pool, but he won't be out of hands reach, let alone sight. DS loves playing in the sand.

After talking to my mom, we're going to book boardwalk and then see about beach club availability at seven months out. She suggested a 2 bedroom, which really will be more comfortable. She insists the pullout is fine, but she said she can always cancel the studio section later. It's possible my dad would also join us, in which case we would definitely need the two bedroom.

You guys are the best!
