BoardWalk Dining

I'll be staying at the BoardWalk Villas in March (can't wait). My dilemma with the three Epcot resorts is the dining. It's just one of these areas that we think "there's nothing to eat around here."
no offense intended ;)

We are strictly casual type diners. Not into Yachtman's, Kouzinna's or the like. I've done the 50's place at BC multiple times and kind of not interested in it anymore.

So my dilemma - where is a good, casual place to eat while staying at the BWV?

Here is a list of 'Casual' Dinning options. I have separated them into TS (Table Service) and QS (Quick Service). Note I don't consider anything over $25 per person as casual so that is how these restaurants have been picked.

__TS__

Beaches & Cream Soda Shop
Big River Grille & Brewing Works (BWR)
Cape May Cafe (Y&BCR)
Captains Grille (Y&BCR)
ESPN Zone (BWR)
The Fountain (Dolphin)
Garden Grove (Swan)
Kimonos (Swan)

__QS__

Beach Club Marketplace (Y&BCR)
Boardwalk Bakery (BWR)
Boardwalk Pizza Window (BWR)
Boardwalk To GO (BWR)
Cabana Bar & Beach Club (Dolphin)
Fresh Mediterranean Market (Dolphin)
Hurricane Hanna's (Y&BCR)
Picabu (Dolphin)
Splash Grill & Splash Terrace (Swan)

I hope this list may help!
Don't forget you could always go to Epcot for a casual meal as long as you are prepared to use a day on your tickets or Park Hop.

I just spent a week at the Boardwalk Villas, so here's my take on the eateries around there that I patronized:

Garden Grove at the Swan - RUN don't walk AWAY from this place. HORRIBLE food - our worst dining experience while down at the World.

Big River Grill at the Boardwalk - great casual dining, good burgers, sandwiches, pastas, etc.

Kouzzina's at the Boardwalk - overpriced and mediocre, sub par service too.

Flying Fish at the Boardwalk - went on a whim after our plans to eat at the Bistro in Paris fell through. One of the best meals I have ever had. If you go there definitely get the potato wrapped Snapper. My mouth is watering just thinking about it

Boardwalk Bakery at the Boardwalk - good walk-up bakery items. Smart to fill a bag with breakfast stuff and head out to the parks.

Pizza Window at the Boardwalk - convenient, decent pizza - not the best ever pizza, but it works in a pinch

Captain's Grills (Yacht+Beach) - good food, american style steaks, chicken, pasta. Casual.

Don't forget that Epcot and DHS are within walking (or boating) distances as well, so you can always dine in the parks if you're up for that.

Also, I didn't experience it, but I've been told that the Cape May Cafe at the Yacht+Beach club has a great breakfast buffet.

have fun down there!

I agree that the Flying Fish is wonderful. I'm dying to go back. However, I definitely would not classify it as 'casual dining.' You would be hard-pressed to get out of there with a bill under $100 (for 2 people).

We were at BWI early this month and ate at ESPN zone on the Boardwalk. It was good, casual food. The burgers and wings were good. However, I hear that the burgers at Beaches & Cream (at Beach Club just across the way) are even better.

My family feels the same way and it's one of the reasons why we won't be going back there even though we love it's location.

We ended up having breakfast at the bakery or Spoodles (which is now gone). The Big River Grille was good except for the fact that it was just too crowded. ESPN Zone also got a bit of our money. Many times we ended up eating at the parks or at other hotels.

ESPN restaurant is a good location if interested in sports.

I like Beaches & Cream Soda Shop at the BC. The burgers, onion rings, and ice cream sundaes are good. Order a "kitchen sink" if you are in the mood for alot of ice cream and have at least 3 people in your group.

As Boardwalk Villa DVC owners for 10 years, we have eaten in and around the Boardwalk numnerous times, in fact the dining options in this area are one of the reasons we purchased the DVC here. I think the Boardwalk and its surrounding resorts offer more dining options tahn any other area in WDW except Downtown Disney. In addition to the ones stated below, its a short walk into Epcot and world showcase has so many places to chose from at different price options, it takes us just 15 minutes to get to the Yakitori house in Japan, 10 to Fish and Chips in England if we wanted that kind of food,

This past trip 12/31-1/9/2010, we spent New Years Eve at the Rose and Corwn (and somehow without asking got a water view table); after that we ate at Mama Melrose in DHS; Biergarten inGermany; Kouzzinas at BW (the food was great, service was great - we had a waiter we had previously had at Spoodles and as for price with my Tables in Wonderland card, they took teh 20 percent off) Le Cellier in Canada. All of them favorites of my family - We didnt have a disappointing meal at all, and most of the time we were 8 people.

Flying FIsh is on our list for our next trip in August, the food there is always good, and the kids lvoe Cape May clambake, lots of good food and reasonable priced.:sohappy:

There does seem to be a lack of fast places, those that are not sit down eateries.
Other resorts have food courts.
For example, where is there to eat a quick, counter service breakfast when trying to get to the parks early?
Seems like most all the places to eat are those where a waiter is involved.

I agree with you about the lack of casual dining options at the Boardwalk. There are so many other dining options at other resorts and at Downtown Disney. I like a few of the DTD restaurants especially because you can walk around before/after dinner. My favorites at DTD are House of Blues, Raglan Road, and Earl of Sandwich

I have to agree that Flying Fish is one of our favorites. Never a bad meal and the other posted is correct, their Potato Wrapped Snapper is to die for.

We recently tried Il Mulino over at The Swan and loved it. It's not a far walk and the food and service were outstanding.

It's not a casual resturant, but Flying Fish is one of my absolute favorite resturants in WDW. If you are traveling without kids, you can always ask if there is room to sit at the bar. DH & I have done this a couple of times - gone in had a glass of wine & shared an appetizer. (The mussels are awesome!)

If you like sushi, Kimonos in the Swan is really good as well. (They also were just added to the TIW card.)

Just mentioning as an option but there are some quick vendor type places that set up at night. They do not take the DDP though. But, if you are just looking for a quick snack they are really good. We stayed at The Boardwalk and I remember there being a stand of some kind right on the boardwalk in front of the hotel that had mozzarella sticks and some other options of that sort. They were very good! Just a thought if you want something quick at night after eating a big meal during the day.

My friends and I make a point to eat here on every trip. It's a really small place but the food is delicious! We've never gotten the kitchen sink but it's always fun when they bring one out.

The Bakery is a great choice to grab something quick, for both breakfast and lunch. You can also get a quick slice of pizza at the window at the old Spoodles.

We even have the sandwiches at the pool and have always enjoyed those. At night there are always a few carts open on the boardwalk selling misc. food. Finding something quick to eat at the Boardwalk has never been a problem for us

Does anybody know if the Boardwalk-to-Go is on the dining plan? I have seen conflicting reports. It is not on the brouchure, but I've seen a couple places where it is listed as a Quick Service location... I know the Bakery is a good lunch choice, but with a fussy 6yr old, chicken nuggets at BWV would be a good thing!
