BLT security bars?

Does anyone know if BLT provides security bars (steel/wood tubes inserted at the track at the bottom of the door to prevent opening if unlocked) for guests or should I bring my own? What size bar would fit the door?

I will have 5 small children staying in the room, and although they are great kids, I would like the extra assurance that they could not possibly unlock and open the balcony door. (I am also contemplating moving furniture in front of the door.)

Thanks!

We just got back from BLT a few weeks ago and did not see them in the room - not to say that you couldn't request them. Keep in mind, we were in a 1 BR and there was both a slider from the bedroom and a standard door from the living room that lead out to the balcony.

Another idea so that you will know if the door is opening is to string up some bells & hang them from the door handle. Just make sure you can get them back off before you leave. :D

As I remember, there are two locks: one around the handle and one ABOVE that an adult would have to reach. There were no bars in the tracks.

Depends on how old your kids are. Mine were 2 and 5 and the top lock was way out of reach.

BTW, please watch them on the balcony. Very dangerously built IMHO. My 2 year old was trying to climb up. Think they should really consider adding about a foot of glass barrier above the top rail.

If they can figure out how to unlock the door wouldnt they be able to move the bar?

Not trying to be a wiseguy but just a thought

Good thought- Many security bars fit very snugly and take strength and dexterity to move. They also can make a lot of noise (clattering) on the metal. I thought it wouldn't hurt to purchase a cheap adjustable one and bring it along on the trip if they don't provide one.

We will be in a 2 BR, and I believe (?) the lay-out has a sliding glass door in the 2 queen bed room (children's).

hmmm.... good idea. I am a light sleeper and would probably hear them just messing with the door. Couldn't hurt to have an extra alarm though. I'm planning on not even letting them out on this balcony, so they wouldn't even know it was a possibility.

This is excellent information. Thank you! I am feeling much more reassured knowing there is a top lock. I went to a model in a DVC store and did not see this top lock. (My oldest is 7 and (usually) very responsible.)

We always pack some kind of security bar when we travel. My oldest son who was 7 at the time decided to go for a little walk in his sleep one night..... on a cruise ship. Purser woke up my wife at 3:00am and they found our son on deck #4, our cabin was on deck 7. so from then on we lock up tighter than Ft. Knox.

I just came back from a stay there in a one-bedroom. There are two ways to get on the balcony -- the sliding glass door in the master bedroom and a regular door in the living room. Both have locks, but I didn't think they were that high up to be out of a child's reach. I like the idea of putting bells or a hanging alarm on the doors.
