BLT or VWL?

We stayed at BLT in January and loved it, have not stayed at VWL but have stayed at WL which is also a great place. They are two different resorts, one is modern and sleek, the other rustic appearance and comfy; one is on the monorail; the other built among trees with bus and boat access. Its all a matter of what you want when you go.

We own in both BWV and BLT which are two different resorts and will choose which one to stay in depending on what we want to do at that time.

Good luck and have fun making your choice

First of all, are you paying with points or with cash (are you a DVC member)? Rooms in either resort can be hard to come by depending on when you want to go and what size room you want and lots of other variables. Both have some unique options - BLT, being a monorail resort, means you're brief stops from the other monorail resorts, their amenities, their restaurants, their views, etc. VWL is a walk/bus/boat ride away from Fort Wilderness and the amenities THERE, from pony rides and the outdoor movies to HoopDe Doo and Mickey's Backyard BBQ. Of course, there are also sometimes boats from Wilderness to Contemporary and Contemporary to FW, but those are seasonal and may not be available when you go. I don't know how much room you need - studios are a little smaller at BLT, but if you're going for a 1 or 2BR villas that might not be as much of an issue. Certainly it takes more points (or cash) to stay at BLT...

I've stayed at VWL and enjoyed it quite a bit. We did take advantage of the proximity to FW a few times. Certainly used the boats whenever we went to MK. But I'm also curious about BLT. So were you, me, I/you would probably see if a room at the BLT was available first, and then try VWL if BLT is full for the time I/you planned to go.

Thanks-I'm staying on points and own at VWL (but have never stayed there). I want to stay in each DVC once first before I pick a favorite. BLT and/or VWL are next on my list. Next trip wil probably be Jan or March 2011. Still debating when and where though ....

Well, if VWL is your home resort, I'd suggest a "hope for the best, prepare for the worst" scenario (though this would hardly represent a "worst" scenario). Book a room at VWL as soon as possible (now-ish if you decide to go in January, and April if you decide to go in March). Once the 7-month window rolls around, see if you can even get a room at BLT. There's a chance you won't, but this way you still have your room at VWL booked. You can always get on a waiting list for BLT at that point, without worrying about what'll happen if you don't. Both resorts are close enough to each other that you probably won't have to drastically re-think plans. For example, if you want to have breakfast one day at Ohana's, you can still get there either by the monorail from Contemporary/BLT OR boating from VWL to MK and then taking the resort monorail. One requires more time, but is still doable. If you have the VWL reservations and then you van get the BLT reservation, that's one instance where life will be easier. On the flip-flop if you opt to have dinner one night at Hoop De Do Revue, there may be boats from both resorts to Fort Wilderness; otherwise, staying at BLT may require you to walk to the MK and boat from there. A situation where staying at VWL, as there's an internal bus between FW and WL (and really, it's a walkable distance if weather is accommodating), would be preferable to staying at BLT, but hardly an insurmountable obstacle if you get into BLT. Either way, book VWL ASAP, just to be safe.

Sound advice - thank you. If the BLT ressie comes thru, will DVC automatically cancel my VWL ressie and use those points or will they take more points for the new one? Meaning I would have to borrow pts.

I know that when yiu wait list, they ahve a way of handling it, I was waitlisted for a BW View room for December 31st while I had a pool view room, as soon as the BW View room came thru on line you just saw the change, The same happened on my august ressie recently, I just saw it change online.

Ask when you call member services as to what they will do?
