Yes, but on top of that initial amount, you're failing to mention the 50 years of dues...and in this 350 point scenario, they're more per year than I'll usually pay to stay at a deluxe.Yes, that initial investment seams a lot, but what you are failing to realize is that you get 50 years of vacations for that amount. Using your numbers, if it is 350 points to get a 1br for a week, in the 50th year it still will be 350 points. Plus you can use your points at other places then here.

That being said, I think the DVC can be a great thing for those that can truly afford it. By "truly afford it," I mean those that can plop down the entire initial amount without having to make payments. Payments plus yearly dues are a LOT of extra money. DVC is really a luxury, not an investment.
The real bottom line is that it's completely up to each individual or family's perspective. No one can tell anyone else it isn't a good idea. Someone might prove it's not a great idea on paper, but that doesn't necessarily mean someone shouldn't do it.
