I think people celebrating their birthday's that day ONLY should get a button. people go the beginning of the month and their birthday is at the end yet they're still celebrating it early. Anyone can celebrate their birthday anytime they want. I think an ID should be required for those over the age of 18 to get a birthday button and under 18, well, just hope the parents will be honest about when their child's birthday really is. I know that will never happen, but it'd be nice!

I disagree with the statement that you should only get a button if it's actually your birthday because not everyone is flexible enough to be somewhere on their birthday. I'm going this coming weekend for my birthday which is actually on the next weekend. I couldn't go that weekend, so we decided on a week early. I will wear my button proudly! :D

If other people feel fine wearing a button that says Happy Birthday on a day that it's not their birthday, then more power to them. Too many people take advantage of the buttons so much so that I don't blame CM's for not acknowledging everybody because probably more often than not, it's really not that person's birthday. On our spring trip 2 years ago, the three of us traveling all celebrated our birthdays even though it was only my Mom's and I just felt wrong having people wish me a happy birthday when it wasn't but that's just me I guess!!

I understand what you're saying, but what you did and what I'm doing are completely different. You wore a birthday button because it was someone else's birthday. I would feel wrong about that too! I'm wearing one because my birthday is the next weekend and I'm celebrating early since I couldn't take a trip to Florida that day.

I don't want to seem rude toward you personally, but you are part of the reason why the birthday thing isn't what it used to be.

If it is not you birthday this weekend, don't wear the button. Celebrate your birthday if you must, but don't take advantage.

It's not the end of the world if you can't celebrate your birthday at Disney. Being in Disney with people you care about should be enough.

How exactly am I taking advantage? I'm not going three weeks later. My birthday is on Sunday and I'm going to be there the previous Saturday thru Tuesday. I'm spending money to celebrate my birthday in my favorite place. I'm not rich and cannot make trips to Florida whenever I feel like it. I have to work around schedules like the rest of the world.

I agree, my wife and I are cruising and the last morning of the cruise is her birthday when we disembark. If she wears the button the prior two days, is that being dishonest? I don't think so. Our trip is over at that point, so why not wear it a day or two prior.

They should print out something, maybe something you get at guest services when you show your id and you get a special pin, with that date printed on it and happy birthday. I do not begrudge people for getting the pins, but the proliferation of them is what has made it less celebrated that goes for folks celebrating and anniversary two weeks early ect. You don't go out for your birthday dinner three weeks early, you go at least the week of your birthday maybe one week earlier or later if time is tough! But like I said I don't begrudge, disney should fix the system if its an issue.

Today is my daughter's 9th birthday and by the time we checked in at the Art of Animation and went to get our stuff from the car over a handful of CMs said happy birthday to her. A bunch more at Hollywood studios did it and one CM gave her a free ice cream. She was very shocked/happy and could barely get out the words thank you. But anytime a CM said happy birthday to her she got a smile from ear to ear. Good times!

The problem is this, there is no system. I was in WDW a few years ago when Green Bay won the Super Bowl. People were wearing the "I'm Celebrating....A Packers Win" button. Were they supposed to get something for that? I don't know if there is a set system in place for CMs to make more magic if they see an engaged, birthday, or anniversary button. I see your point that CMs see them all the time and may not do anything, but are they required to? Is it possible that you are seeing the few that do their eight and hit the gate?

That's awesome, and it should be for a nine-year-old's birthday!

Well, I personally think a birthday should be a big thing for a kid so let them get the big cheers, as an adult if you want it more special, make sure your husband or wife or whomever mentions it to the waiter at the restaurant you eat at....or Disney can start doing what everyone else does, and just charge if you want special things...

Or just give everyone the big cheers. They're Disney, it's what they do. Call me whatever you want, but I'm turning the big 2-5 and I'm wearing my button a week early.

And thats fine. If an adult wears a pin, a simple Happy Birthday is sufficient. But as far as I'm aware, and I could be wrong, there is nothing in place as far as protocol.

If a protocol does come into play (free FPs, ice cream, etc) , are we now going to require parents to show ID that it is their child's birthday? That is where people would take advantage. A button for an adult is fine, I just dont think we should expect anything more than a birthday greeting.

Agreed. I don't expect free stuff, I just want to wear my birthday button since that's what I'm celebrating! DH and I wore our Happily Ever After buttons throughout our honeymoon and were pleasantly surprised with the grey stuff at BOG! We weren't expecting anything by wearing them, but it was a really nice touch!

This almost kinda sorta reminds me of the heated arguments people used to have about returning to a FP ride three hours late; in the sense that people are taking advantage of the system.

Yeah I agree. I think this all started when folks heard you got free desserts ect, also like your saying, a greeting is nice, if it's not your birthday, would you not feel embarassed to have folks saying happy birthday the whole time!

There's nothing wrong with wearing your birthday button, a few days before or after your birthday. It's so close anyway, so who cares?! Hope you have a great birthday!
