Yeah I agree. I think this all started when folks heard you got free desserts ect, also like your saying, a greeting is nice, if it's not your birthday, would you not feel embarassed to have folks saying happy birthday the whole time!
I would not feel embarassed if I am there to celebrate and its close (2-3 weeks) away. As stated, some people can only get away within their birth month. I am not saying your day is in May and you celebrate in March. Let me ask you this, is it also not slightly weird to have MVMCP the first week of November?

I am agreeing sorta..as I stated originally if your a week within...2..sure...3 kinda stretching it. And not wierd at all for MVMCP to be so early because...its a cash cow!

Maybe they will have something in place at some point. And, like everything else, people will do the right thing, and others will do the not so right thing. Til then, wear your button as close to your birthday and celebrate another year of life!

Edit: I have no other way of ending this conversation so I will take a small bow and say thank you for a civilized discussion.

Okay, I'm probably gonna get reamed for this but here it goes. My daughter's birthday is in January. She turned 16. We asked her if she wanted a car or a trip to Disney. She picked the trip ( no car WHAT?) she wanted to do something we could all enjoy together. The trip is in June. But she is in school and can't miss any so we are going when school let's out. Anyway, when I called to make the reservations they asked if we were celebrating anything and I told them that she was celebrating her 16th and is it too late for her to wear the button? They told me absolutely not. Well, she is going to wear it. She does not want free stuff and if someone says something she will probably turn all red and whisper thank you. I think a few bad apples may have ruined it for others. But this is when we can go and that is when she will wear her button. And the friend going with us will be wearing a First Visit button and she is 16 as well.

Yeah, it's like other things in life... offer something free and watch the crowds come. Maybe there should be a Bday restriction made. If your Bday is in the month of your trip you get.... if its within 2 mos or 3 mos you get.... CMs at city hall mark the appropriate date of the Bday on the pin before giving out?

Like the free birthday ticket!

I've never been for my birthday because its in September, but we've been there for my mom's birthday a ton of times (May 16th). She always got a button, but only wore it ON her birthDAY. She felt funny wearing it the day before or even the day after and I agree with this. It would be weird to hear "happy birthday" when its not my birthday.

anyone else feel like this?
after 30+ trips to wdw, almost all of them during my birthday
birthdays just do not feel magical in disney anymore
i even stopped wearing the buttons
less and less cast members acknowledge them
the last time not one person said happy birthday for the entire day

anyone else feel like the birthday magic is gone?

That's weird, when I was there last, I got my button, which my gf made sure I got, and EVERYWHERE I went, I had people telling me Happy Birthday. Everyone from people at my resort all the way to the characters in the parks. Heck, I was even lucky enough with the Dapper Dans that when they finished taking a picture with my gf they broke out into Happy Birthday!!!! Didn't ask for it, didn't expect it... It was fun to watch people running over beaming birthday buttons though and the Dans (once they finished with me) said "move out" and they went on with their stroll.

Maybe it's time for you to celebrate something else. Then again, if the new Nextgen thing does what it could, they could limit birthday buttons to the people that it's only their birthdays. Instead of someone who is in Disney in January and their birthday is really in October, but they got a button anyway, that could bring back some of the magic.

I think it depends on your age how people react. Children and older people seem to get more attention with the button than the average adult. My granddaughter got lots of attention and when I took my 87 yr old mother for her birthday they left balloons and a gift in the room for her. I went for my birthday 60, got not even a button or a happy birthday. Had to go get my own button!

My birthday is in September. The morning I turned 50, I decided to treat myself with a trip to WDW during DD's college break in December. When I called Disney to make the reservations, the CM asked if I was celebrating anything special, and I replied no, but I turned 50 today, so I bought myself a Mitsubishi Eclipse and booked a trip to Disney as my own present. We both laughed, and I didn't think anymore about it. Fast forward to December, when I check in to the Contemporary, the CM hands me my birthday button. When I explain to her my birthday was 4 months earlier, she told me it didn't matter, that this trip was a celebration of my birthday, and to wear the button. So I did, even had her mark "5-0" along withn my name, and I had so much fun. Now I could see if you aren't someone who likes a lot of attention drawn to yourself you might get a little uncomfortable or embarrassed, but that kind of stuff doesn't bother me. I just went with the flow and played along.

This September, I'm cruising with the Dream Girls, and will be celebrating my birthday on the actual day on the ship. If you listen real hard, you'll probably be able to hear us partying in the middle of the ocean!
