Birthday Suggestions

Hi there! I'm new here, just wondering if any of you guys could help me out? :)

We've surprised my mother with a trip to Disney World for her birthday in October (she still doesn't believe we're going, but there we go :p) and I was wondering if anybody knew of anything special we could do?

I've already looked at dinner in the Rose & Crown for Illuminations, but unfortunately it's fully booked for that date and time - we'll do that a different day instead. We're also doing Halloween Horror Nights in Universal the night before, so MNNSHP is out (we can't afford tickets to both, and the three men in the family are more into their horror than their Disney!).

So, any suggestions? Her birthday is on the 7th October, which is a Monday :) Any help is sorely appreciated!

Hoop Dee Doo? It's not cheap, though!

I can't think of anything else birthday-y. But it doesn't matter much. Just going will be pretty darn special.

If your mom is anything like me, she won't care too much about not having the birthday recognized on a regular basis. The only birthday treat I want is for everyone to forget my age. ;)

I think what you did is great and know you'll all have a good time!

We are doing the Pirates and Pals Cruise and there is the Wishes Dessert Spectacular option. Both are supposed to be really fun and not terribly expensive. You can always order a specialty cake and have it at whatever meal you are having that day or to your hotel if you are staying in the parks. Definitely make sure she wears a button. Lots of special Happy Birthdays and just fun special attention. :)

Make sure you add the birthday celebration to your meals. You used to be able to do it online, but now you have to call...they'll want your ADR info and some basic info on the bday person.

The button is also nice... lots of people will wish her happy birthday with that.

If you want R&C timed with Illuminations...you can stalk the website. Things open up all the time, especially in the last few weeks before travel. It can be a total pain, but stalking the website for ADRs has never failed me.

I also am a big fan of cake. There are basic cakes that can be added on when you check into your meal to more elaborate cakes. I started a thread a little while back called the Cake Talk which can help give you an idea of options. The first 3 posts are informational and then after that, you get into several pages of pictures.

look into the wishes dessert party during the halloween party. you will not be able to book it until august or september, but its a great way to see the fireworks and take a break during the party. we have done this for the christmas party three times and its great. its something we do on each trip and look forward to it every time.

Thank you all for the fabulous ideas!

The button is a given, she's wearing a ridiculous one whether she likes it or not!
The Wishes Dessert Party seems interesting! Is there an entry fee or anything like that?

In terms of Rose & Crown, I've booked a table for the Tuesday evening but I'll still keep an eye out for the Monday - that way, we'll still be able to have the experience whether it's on her birthday or not :)

And I'm currently browsing through the cake list now - some of these are ridiculously amazing!!!
