Birnbuam 2009 Book

So, am I the only one who is upset at how the 2009 Birnbuam book, which just recently came out and is supposedly a guide for NEXT year already has a bunch a stuff in it that is already outdated. You would think that by being the "inside source", they would have a little more insight into the comings and goings. It was weird to read about PAL Mickey in the book, when on this website I read that it was being discontinued. It was weird to read about how the Extra Magic Hours program uses wristbands, when on this website I read that they've done away with the wristbands and are now just checking for resort IDs. Maybe their "inside source" should be this website :)

Well these are recent things to happen.Pal Mickey and the Wristbands for EMH were discontinued most likely after the book went to publishers and printed. Those books were finalized and most likely next year they will not be listed.

I to was surprised by the number of outdated or incorrect pieces of information. In the parade section they also list Parade of Dreams as the afternoon parade at the Magic Kingdom. This was delayed well before press time. Oh well can't get it right all the time :)

I was disappointed as this edition, more than any others, literally mirrors last years edition. Not worth buying. Use new pictures, new descriptions....something.

we have the last 4 years of birnbaums and they pretty much repeat most of the book over and over again, usually word for word. as disney publishes it you would think they could be a little more creative.

Actually, the best guide I have (and I think I have them all....I'm a nerd) is the Complete Guide To Walt Disney World by Julie Neal. It's got LOADS of pictures in it (good ones), has detailed information about each attraction. Has good chapter on all the resorts, distances to theme parks, size, rooms, pools, etc.

Unofficial Guide has the most detailed information of them all, but a lot of it is kind of useless tidbits. The Complete Guide mentioned above I think is the best guide book for fans of WDW.

Here's the amazon link to that book. This is for the 2008, only so you can read what people have to say about it:

You have to remember that they have to have it ready well in advance to publish it in a timely manner so they are not going to have the latest information. This happens every year. Usually if they get new information they will mention that "they are hearing that a new ride is coming..." but they probably had the copy ready by June for the following year.:)

We always purchased the Birnbaum's guide growing up because it was really the only guide available. Now the Passporter and the Unofficial Guide offer 2-3 times more information than the Birnbaum. However, I still enjoy the color pictures some of which scream mid 80s to early 90s:rolleyes:.

The guides are printed way before new information makes it way out. That is why I love websites like this so we can get together and discuss recent news.

I have the Unofficial Guide and a Passporter from 2006. I like them both because they carry alot of strategic and practical information like ratings, travel time, etc. I probably will not buy a new Birnbaum's this year because it is not much different from 07 or 08.

I couldn't agree more!! I got the whole set (with out kids, pocket, dining, etc.) The last set is from 2007. And i was SO irritated!! i understand Pal Mickey but PI??? It still has the write up about everything!! And I quote "maybe undergoing some changes in 2009 but don't worry, it will still be there!!" Ummmmm really?? Thanks for posting this - I thought it was just me! :)

I checked out the 2009 Fodor's Florida book yesterday. Boy, it misses everything. It provides lots of tips of the best clubs at PI. It gives detailed instructions on how to use the ExpressPass machines at UF. Does anyone proof these books??

SOrry, that was rude, but for some reason I can't edit a previous post. You're right. So how's this?

Yeah It's very annoying when traditional things are not updated to reflect the current times.

Sincerely,
