Why make things up?Why?
It's done all the time.
The new building is going to be better suited to the look and uses intended for it.

Are you that nostalgic for the old structure? They did a great job on the current Connections buildings, they could have done the same thing on the other side a well.
It'll pretty much look identical to what they could have done had they kept the buildings up.
What are you talking about?
Buildings are demo'd and replaced by new buildings better suited to the application all the time.
Yeah, they weren't going to put a new building here initially (if I'm not mistaken) but now they are.
What's the problem?
It's going to be a new building that is going to work better with what they are doing than the original building would have.

Just because other buildings are demolished for sometimes good reasons does not mean they are always demolished for good reason. CommuniCore West was not demolished because it was not well suited for an intended program. It was not demolished because it had whatever issue people are claiming this week. The building was demolished because Iger wanted to play patron like Eisner and hired DS+R to drop in a smaller, more difficult to use building because he wanted to be able to boast about bringing in the people who did the Highline. What are you talking about?

Program was developed for the existing buildings. It was the cheaper option. The big thing about that program that people mock, meet and greet space, is half of the new building. With Iger gone Disney largely pivoted to what was otherwise the plan. The sad reality is if they hadn’t already demo‘d the old buildings they would probably have done nothing with them and they’d just sit empty for another decade anyway.
Could they have repurposed the old buildings? sure, would they have spent the money to repurpose them if they were still standing? my guess is no.
Personally I’m thankful they demo’d prior to Covid because my gut tells me if they hadn’t the whole project would have been cancelled and we’d still have a bunch of mostly empty buildings, a pin kiosk, and a bunch of sails providing shade over a bunch of concrete. The only Epcot hub I’ve ever known.

This one wouldn’t have been unstarted. All that time wasted on design and demolition would have pushed it even further ahead. There was also a program developed for Spaceship Earth, a new ride in England, the play pavilion, and other areas but Chapek and co have postponed/cancelled all of them.
Theoretically they could have done other things, maybe even better things, but given the fact that most (maybe all) the unstarted projects have been shelved I have no reason to believe this one wouldn’t have been cancelled too.

You just don’t understand how people stopping in a central walkway to watch a show is actually more functional than walking.I simply prefer that fools who have no idea what they are doing stop knocking down perfectly good structures just to rebuild them, and ruining the symmetry in a park that was built by people who know what they were doing.

We are getting the black box that is sure to be a gorgeous sight!I'm very happy that knocking down Communicore West solved... oh wait...
I’ll probably regret saying this as I’m likely jinxing it and they’ve done far worse lately, but surely they’re cladding it the same way as CommuniCore Hall? Or do we know what it will look like? I can’t find concept art where the angle shows it.We are getting the black box that is sure to be a gorgeous sight!
So? Plans change. You have to react to what you want, and then react with situations change. It wasn't like the existing building didn't have major issues. But that’s not what happened here. They didn’t tear it down to build a better suited building. They tore it down in preparation for the bar on legs, then had to scramble when that went away.
It didn’t.So? Plans change. You have to react to what you want, and then react with situations change. It wasn't like the existing building didn't have major issues.
What is being built now is not a duplicate to what was taken down. The open stage and such are the point there. While I agree they were short sighted with the original plan of the stool building, replacing the existing isn't all that bad.No, I just find it hilarious that they took it down only to pretty much rebuild it after plans fell through.
Says who you? Wasn't this the side with the horrible odor and other issues? It didn’t.
Could have been fixed with less work than they put into redoing the east side. And define other issues? It was structurally sound, the north half was even stripped and expanded in ‘94.Says who you? Wasn't this the side with the horrible odor and other issues?
Per whom? I have to assume you all have seen quotes that show it was cheaper to rehab?Could have been fixed with less work than they put into redoing the east side. And define other issues? It was structurally sound, the north half was even stripped and expanded in ‘94.
The decision to tear down was not based on the viability of the existing structure. That Disney was working on reusing the facility is information that has been made public and evidence against these claims of “issues”.Per whom? I have to assume you all have seen quotes that show it was cheaper to rehab?
And while we are at it, lets totally ignore they had a totally different plan for the area for a totally new structure, but swerved after Covid.
Hindsight must be a wonderful tool for you all...
Please note as well, I am in no way for all the changes being made in Epcot, but I just get flabbergasted at all you "experts" who know with no data you are right vs. Disney.
