News Big changes coming to EPCOT's Future World?

If I had my way, I'd have it's a small world in Epcot and a Speedway equivalent in DHS to facilitate the necessary improvements to Fantasyland and Tomorrowland.

I actually agree with you on this, in a perfect scenario.

But they already have space both in Fantasy and Tomorrow where they could expand if they wanted to.
But considering Frozen on Maelstrom, Mickey on GMR and many others, current managent could care less about actually expanding the parks

Where do they have space in Fantasyland?

Not the best, but between current Fantasyland and Train tracks.
MK is the only park not to extend all the way back to the tracks

When they want to, it's doable. Like managing to fit SWL in Disneyland without getting rid of any rides

But I agree with your ideas too

Moving Small World to Epcot would only help further turn it into Magic Kingdom 2.0, IMHO.
That's because you've got it in your mind that "it's a small world" is the Magic Kingdom. If you think about it, it really is the perfect bridge attraction between Future World and World Showcase. Having said that, relocating it doesn't "fix" Epcot, it just reinforces a better direction for it. Epcot works as a location for something that is "in the way" at the Magic Kingdom. There are things that aren't in Epcot that truly should be (Carousel of Progress is the biggest), and since they're talking about a significant investment I'd like to see those types of changes made to set all of the parks on a more logical path as opposed to piecemeal updates.

At the very least, Epcot's future has to also consider the future of Tomorrowland. The two areas should be re-designed concurrently so that true differences/distinctions are drawn between them. I also think that any Marvel presence needs to be thought out with more than a single attraction in mind. A one off Guardians attraction in Epcot makes very little sense unless the theme of that attraction differs from the themes in the actual movie.

When you look at all of the rumors surrounding Epcot, the only real common thread is a desire to get more movie IPs into the park, and that screams desperation to me. I hope that either the rumors are false, or there's an unknown element here that will better tie all of these things together. Otherwise, the park will continue to devolve into a disjointed mess rather than the cohesive "sum is greater than it's parts" park it used to be.

I offered one possible solution, and definitely think there are other ideas for cohesion that make sense as well, but the current rumors point to band aid solutions.

Bringing IPs into Epcot is what the vast majority want. And there is a way to do that without losing fans except the extreme purists. I am sure D23 will shed some light on where they are going.

I respect your opinion, RSoxNo1, but I also kindly agree to disagree on the IASW issue. We are both in agreement that Fantasyland and Tomorrowland need a reworking though.

Man, I like the Electric Umbrella - It's the most convenient place at Epcot to refill your water bottle with ICE COLD water!! I liked their menu in the past, they always seemed to have something just a bit different, yet familiar, but now that they've "fancied it up" it lacks much appeal for me. YMMV.

It was reported on themeparkinsider that the re-do has been given $2billion (always sceptical was DHS budget was surely nowhere near what was reported).

With the way Disney spend money, will $2billion be enough? I mean, it could sort a ton of issues if spent wisely, but I don't imagine they'll do much else in the park for a length of time afterwards, so if it doesn't get sorted in this round then are we to wait an extra decade? I worry about talk of Rat. That'll take a good chunk out of $2billion, and potentially leaves an area of future world without updates.

I'm still staggered about the talk of what they're spending on Toy Story. If that's the value they're getting out of their projects, the rumoured money set aside for Epcot isn't going to make a dent on the improvements needed.

Vast majority? Or Vast majority of TDO management? I think the vast majority of customers want rides and unique experiences... If there is a tie in, I am sure most would not mind, but I don't think most people are saying...Gee I wish I could see more Disney Princesses mixed in with the food and wine booths....

Sadly it wouldn't surprise me if they ARE saying that :( I sure hope not though but I do think many guests want character tie-ins. Some people think All Star resorts are "Disney" to them, which means characters and movie tie-ins. To me, Disney is a lot more than that but I think we're becoming the minority. I really want to be wrong in that.

But I do agree it's more management than guests but I'd like to know what guests are saying ...

I think if it is $2 Billion for Epcot, that's not bad.

Rat shouldn't cost too much if it's basically the same ride already in DLP, no having to re-invent anything for it, that and GOTG less than $300 million?

Refurb the front area and area between the empty shell of Innoventions, plus whatever they're going to do to Innoventions, maybe one more attraction in World Showcase after RAT?

We might still have $1 Billion left over for Imagination overhaul, and another Future World attraction, and extra stuff?
