"Big" Apple announcement may involve Disney

Apple taking a page from Disney's playbook, and people still think Next Gen is a failure? I wonder how many of the negative Nancy's are going to call out Apple for stealing your personal information when they are doing the exact same thing Disney did with the bands.

Apple is not storing any of your payment info (except on a secure chip on the phone) and they don't have access to info on purchases.

First, you will not stick to swiping because that is finally being phased out in the US.

No, the technology will not be compatible with all smartphones as they require specific hardware and software. Nobody is forcing the use of phone-based NFC, it is just an option that is available to a significantly growing portion of the population.

Ok. Then I suppose my question is if I can't slide my credit card in the upcoming future and my phone is too old to use an app to pay, how am I suppose to buy things at the grocery store for example if I have no cash?

I'm just curious because this is going to affect how I do my day to day activities and I want to start preparing now.

Even if using Apple Pay, Disney would know what is being sold. Not sure if they would be able to see connect it to you. Target, who will support in-app Apple Pay, is the master of creating a very personalized profile without your every created a Target account with which to associate the purchases.

You will be issued a new chip and pin card by your issuing bank within the next year or so. They work in ways somewhat similar to what is built into the NFC enabled smartphones.

As for apps, you will need a contemporary phone. The Galaxy Prevail was outdated when it was new.

WOW! NFC?!? My last 3 phones have had it and I used it maybe 2 times. Its no more convenient than using a card because my card doesnt need me to type in a pic when I use it.. As usual Apple is pretending to invent things.
Like it or not Apple is the trendsetter with mobile technology. With them in the game and now with many larger merchants and financial institions getting on the bandwagon, this will become, in short order the way most people will process their transactions

Ah, thanks for the heads up! Lol, yeah the Prevail was a bit behind but it was the only smart phone available at the time when I upgraded my own flip phone. I'm not big on these phone companies that force you into data plans and contracts, that's why I stick to pre-paid phones. I'm in control and wont be billed ridiculous amounts of money in "fees"...the only down side is there is limited technology available for these types of plans (because if they offered the latest and greatest, why would anyone stick with a phone plan?). But having an old phone doesn't bother me, I hate Facebook and Twitter and the apps that I can actually download don't even function properly half the time anyway (I'm looking at you Stitcher Radio...)

Well the good news is I don't have to tell my mother she's forced into a smart phone, she'd probably just become a hermit in the forest:p

I use it a lot. I use Google Wallet at least 5 times a week. When I had my galaxy, I used it all the time to send stuff to friends. You would be surprised how often people use it.

I definitely find Apple Pay better thought out than Google Wallet & SoftCard. Hoping we see updates to them to compete with Apple Pay

Just announced that the watch will open your door at Starwood hotels. I think it's highly likely WDW will adopt this also since they already have the technology in place.
It was mentioned before on these board that phones would be opening the doors at Hotel around Disney. Glad to see that was true.

A couple article I have read on this say the new cards are coming in the next year, but not the pins, they will still collect signatures.

In the US it's been the chicken/egg scenario. Just like with NFC. No one wants to spend to support the tech until they are people who can use it, but no one wants to buy the device to use it until the stores support it. But with both Target (already in progress) and Home Depot (recently announced) that they will be upgrading to chip/pin systems in their stores, that gives the banks incentives to get on the ball. I believe the big credit issuers are pushing for them to be installed, so adding/ensuring NFC is in the new terminal is pennies compared to the costs of doing the wholesale deployment. Don't worry, it's coming sooner rather than later.

Trendsetter for tap to pay? No. They weren't the first. But they definitely will be the reason it expands to a more everyday thing.

How did Apple take a page out of Disney's book? Are you referring to the watch?
