"Big" Apple announcement may involve Disney

I've never had an iPhone that wouldn't last all day at a park. I had the original iPhone, 3g, 4, 4s, 5s, and will upgrade to whatever is announced in about an hour (which of course is rumored to have an even better battery).

That's surprising. I think that a more typical experience these days would require a re-charge at some point during the day, especially if we are relying heavily on the use of an App that requires internet connectivity. Plus my wife constantly has her iphone camera on and pointed at her next great Instagram subject.

New iphone... meh. Apple is still a generation or two behind the rest of the world. I find it hard to see the new bigger phone as being a huge innovation. I don't see the sapphire screen as being a big deal either. Maybe it is because I haven't had an iphone since 3, but is screen scratching and breaking really an issue? I've got a two year old that does a number on my android phone daily and I never have had an issue. Nor with my last few phones. I just kind of assumed that they were already built to take a pretty good beating. I hope for apple's sake that they announce something worthwhile. They need to do something other than 'here is stuff the rest of the world has had for years...tah daaaaaa'

A big part of Android's problem with creating a large enough user base is the large number of cheap devices that lack the newer hardware features as well as the new versions of the operating system. Apple's user base upgrades. While it won't enable hardware-based functionality, there will be a huge percentage of users running iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite very shortly following their release. There will also be a large number who get the new hardware, Many who do not get this phone will upgrade relatively soon (two years is not a long time frame) and then also have the hardware.
Yeah, your right about that. But I wouldn't say you need to upgrade soon. Even my 2011 galaxy s2 had nfc and got 3 software updates.

Apple taking a page from Disney's playbook, and people still think Next Gen is a failure? I wonder how many of the negative Nancy's are going to call out Apple for stealing your personal information when they are doing the exact same thing Disney did with the bands.

It's not an issue of need. A lot of people just do the two year upgrades.

Apple doesn't have Disney's history of lousy, botched technology projects. Apple also announced not sharing names, a feature that is counter to how MyMagic+ is supposed to offer customization.

Call me old fashion, but I'll just stick to sliding my credit card. My question about all these apps and technology is will it be compatible with ALL smart phones? I am currently using a 1st generation Boost Mobile Samsung Galaxy Prevail and can not download either the MDE app or the Universal wait time app because my phone is too old and I have no intention on buying a new phone until this one gives out. So what then? Are they going to kill two birds with one stone and phase out credit cards while forcing people to buy new phones in order to pay at the gas pump?

Heck, my mother still uses a flip phone....she hates technology and can only sit at a computer for five minutes before getting frustrated with it and walk away.

A lot of the people who don't like Next Gen just don't like the idea of having to schedule the details of your trip 60 days in advance. In this respect you are comparing apples and oranges.

First, you will not stick to swiping because that is finally being phased out in the US.

No, the technology will not be compatible with all smartphones as they require specific hardware and software. Nobody is forcing the use of phone-based NFC, it is just an option that is available to a significantly growing portion of the population.
