Biergarten

Morning Everyone...
I've had my fair share of beers around the World Pavillion in Epcot including Oktoberfest (don't spite me on the spelling). However, in a few weeks a few friends and I are making an adults only trip down to DW for a couple nights. We made reservations at Biergarten instead of San Angel Inn where we normally go mainly for the large steins of "bier". This will be my first time eating in Germany. What are your opinions on the food and what should we definitely try and stay away from at the buffet?

Thanks!

The food is good at Biergarten, it's a buffet so try what you want if you don't like it don't eat it. I am not a fan of some of the cold salads they have but I'm not a big beet, cucumber, cabbage eater. Enjoy! BTW by your profile we live close to each other I'm a few towns over.

HEY @real mad hatter, ich bin deutsch, und ich liebe das Essen.
so leave my German cuisine alone !

for disneyshib,
I must admit, for real German Food, Biergarten is not all that great. even their spaetzle is not real authentic, and they have no sauerbraten. no German buffet should be without sauerbraten. they used to have it. but their wurst are decent, and some of their cold salads are very good.
their biers are VERY GOOD !
make sure you get the large stein- it's enough for four, but you'll eventually finish it yourself.

it is a pleasant meal, and if you're not German you probably won't notice. and the band is very entertaining, don't hold back, go ahead and sing bier drinking songs with them, by the end of the stein, you'll be ready!
so enjoy, it is worth the trip

I discovered this a few years back and enjoy it immensely. The food is very good and offers a nice selection of hot and cold options. Some of the desserts are excellent, so save room there. Obviously it is a buffet, so while you have lots of choices, there are the usual complaints against buffet food. Overall I think they do a good job bringing fresh food out often for you.

The beer selection is excellent, and the mugs are huge. It sounds like you won't be disappointed with this aspect.

The show is greatly entertaining, although we missed the last one on our previous trip, my family enjoyed the restaurant enough that we will be going back again and hoping to catch the show this time.

One thing I'm not sure anyone has mentioned is that the tables are communal - depending on your party size you will likely be seated with other people at your table that you don't know. Some people don't like this arrangement as its hit or miss. We sat with a nice famly last time and had a good time chatting with them so be friendly!

Have fun.

Agree with hatter about budgerigars. Having grown up in a German household, with a mother who was an outstanding cook, at Biergarten my approach is it's a buffet with something for everyone. There are dishes reminiscent of German home cooking, which is regional. The show is fun, as are the tablemates - always enjoyable.

We just had dinner there this past Monday. Haven't been there for dinner in years. We first dined there on our honeymoon back in '88 before it was a buffet, and we LOVED it!
Although not as good as it used to be, there are still plenty of choices in that buffet for everyone to find at least a few things they like. And, as has already been related in previous posts, the atmosphere and bier are AWESOME...! :)
As far as the cold buffet items go, I really liked the cabbage salad, sausage salad, potato salad, tomato salad and the cold meats.
When it came to the hot buffet items, I really liked the pork shank-gratin with fried onions, roasted potatoes, all the sausages on the sausage platter with sauerkraut, baked veal loaf and the wiener schnitzel.
Overall, it's just a good time all around.
Haben sie ein Magisches festessen...! :)

Best potato salad ever here and the sausages. I don't necessarily love different kinds of foods but there is definitely something anyone can find here to love. The show is great. The people are friendly. Try to eat here every time I go. Nice change from burgers and chicken fingers.
