Oh, my FIL will be traveling with us and 'the Duke' was his favorite actor! Keeping the fingers crossed that SWA has enough lower airfares during their next sale to accommodate my entire travel party!

Sounds like everything that has to be dealt with (besides the smog) in many U.S. airports to me. *shrug*

If that's what you care to believe.. but I've been around enough to know better. I've never sat in another airport and felt like I was on the tarmac like I was a few times at LAX. It's just an aged airport that needed love badly. It offers nothing to appreciate except the fact it's in socal.

I've heard your sentiment from more than one person, and not just on these forums:oops: (my own mother being one of them). I feel the same way about PHL. PHL is closer to us, but we drive the extra 30-45 min. to BWI, because PHL in our eyes is dirty, unorganized, and the employees we've encountered there were kinda rude.

I know experiences vary by what airline you fly in from, times of day, weather, how observant you are, expectations, and comparisons.

There's no right answer here, only opinions...I should've titled this thread: "Your Preferred DL Airport & Why?"

I thank ALL of you for your insight!

I've been around plenty too. I just don't see LAX as being any more in the dumps than many other major U.S. airports are. Also, it's an airport. I personally don't need much out of them besides good service, cheap flights, some decent eateries, plug-in stations, and wifi. LAX has offered me all of that without an issue, so I'll continue to use them and suggest them when necessary.

SIDE NOTE: It's funny, I've always glamorized LAX specifically due to the amount of celebrities who travel thru there...I figured, if the airport is good enough for them, it's sure as heck good for me...I guess I "forgot" that "they" get special treatment.

According to local media, more celebrities use Bob Hope (Burbank) than LAX.

Augh, I made the bad decision to fly there.

Okay, don't panic, there are preventative measures you can take. Before your flight to LAX; get a tetanus booster and a diphtheria shot, after you leave the plane keep your head down and keep moving, don't buy anything at the terminal Starbucks because it's actually a front for the Mexican mafia with kickbacks to the Port of LA board of supervisors, don't make eye contact with anyone in Baggage Claim, and do not stop for gas on Century Blvd. before you reach the freeway, and you should be fine.

Only kind of kidding.

And next time, just book your flight to John Wayne or Long Beach. They're both much closer to Disneyland anyway.

But but but the big columns at LAX are kinda pretty... in a post-apocalyptic chic kinda way.

The Stonehenge looking thing and 50 foot tall LAX letters at the entrance? They pay homage to the ancient Druids who actually designed and built the first terminal and baggage claim, back in 1074. It was remodeled in the early 1300's, and then the Port of LA put it on the back burner for 700 years. It's now known as Terminal 3.

Bob Hope Burbank airport and nearby Van Nuys airport are the go-to airports for private jets, corporate flights, and chartered jets. The B and C Listers who fly commercial are mostly going out of LAX. But the real A Listers and Power People are flying private jets out of Bob Hope or Van Nuys. I've been told that Disney keeps its corporate jet fleet fueled and serviced and at the ready at Bob Hope Burbank.

That GlamourShot I included of the LAX approach road seems a bit too dramatic.

This is what LAX actually looks like out of my windshield when I have to take a flight out of there.

This is certainly not an everyday thing. Parking offsite and taking a shuttle in is a breeze. And life ain't easy while attempting to get to LGB, SNA, or any other place in this state...

lol, I was going to say it makes it look like LAX was built on the ruins of some ancient civilization.

That certainly is what it looked like when I was desperately trying to get to the post office near LAX right before it closed at 7 during that one day strike last November! Spoiler alert: I didn't make it. The lady at the post office pretty much closed the gate on me as my cell phone said "6:58".

I have flown in and out of both SNA and LAX for Disneyland and haven't had any problems with either. I like that SNA was closer but LAX was cheaper. When I flew in and out of LAX I was traveling at off peak times for traffic (later at night and early morning) so maybe that is why traffic wasn't bad. I have also had quite a few layovers in LAX on my way to Hawaii and didn't have any problems when I wandered around the place. I say go with whatever you can afford and works best with your schedule.

Yeah, we're going to be flying into there too in a couple weeks. :( The vehement hatred show here makes me nervous and sad...we didn't know any better!

I've flown into and out of LAX twice. I don't want to argue with the accumulated experience of locals, but I've never had any problems. Yes, it is crowded and surrounded by many, many slow-moving cars. I wouldn't expect any different in the main airport serving a huge urban area.

Everybody has their own priorities in travel. For me at this stage of my life, a lower fare beats landing a few miles closer, walking through a pretty terminal, or avoiding big crowds. Your mileage may vary.
