Best Program for Movies

Hello all...I just recently bought a new computer with a CD/DVD burner, so now I plan to make and edit movies and burn them to DVDs. My question is, I need to know a great, user-friendly program to buy to do this. What do all of you guys who make all those great movies for Disney-Central use and recommend? Also, is there a program (I don't know how to explain this) that will allow you to make a main menu screen and also split up a movie so you can skip scenes when played in a home DVD player? Thanks in advance! :)

Welcome to the boards!

If you have XP (I would guess so) it comes with Windows Movie Maker 2. This is a great start and is easy to use (and free!) It`s no secret I have used MM2 for all my tribute and ride videos at Disney Central (stop sniggering at the back!)

I know some peeps here use Pinnacle 9, personally I didn`t like it. There are so many to choose from - try MM2 and get to grips with editing and take it from there.

For DVD authoring I use Power Producer - very good package, but it came free with my pc :)

I've got Pinnacle Studio 9 - It's more buggy than a truck load of cockroaches, but if you get it to work, it is user friendly and does what you want.

You can easily organise assorted videos in separate files and switch between them to get the various bits you want to combine in one video.

It lets you make the Menu Screen and menu screens writhin menu screens and of course chapters.

I've used it to produce multi camera edits of Festival of the Lion King and Tarzan Rocks, plus an overall video of Animal Kingdom.

The only caveat is that not all computers get on with it and the support from Pinnacle when things go wrong is dire. But when it works, it's easy to use and still quite powerful.
