Best Places Outside the World

If your room has a kitchen, just go to a grocery store and buy some food and make a home made meal. Restaurant food can get a little tiring after a few days, and you can't beat the price.

Emeril's Tchoup Chop at Universal's Royal Pacific is fabulous! It's usually not crowded for lunch (though it often is for dinner), and it's easy to get in and out of, so we've made it our tradition to stop there each trip on our drive down to WDW. Emeril's at CityWalk, on the other hand, always seems more crowded, the service is not as good, and the food is variable - we've had some good meals and some real stinkers there. Now that Tchoup Chop is open, we don't even bother with the other one anymore...

Don't laugh, but we love the Olive Garden for unlimited breadsticks and salad, and unlimited pasta (I go for the never ending spaghetti and meatballs!)

The Olive Garden at the CrossRoads area is the BEST Olive Garden we have ever been to!! Whenever we drive to WDW, we always have one dinner here. The food is always so much better tasting than our local OG. Hands down, a great meal here.

Disclaimer: I have no Italian in me, and don't really enjoy "true Italian" meals, like when my roommate in college had me over for dinner and his mom cooked:lookaroun Not my fav

If you want to try something that could be a bit different (for most people), at the Crossroad Mall right outside of WDW, there is a South Indian restaurant called Dakshin. I love indian food, and try to go there on every trip. For a restaurant in a touristy area, they try to be as authentic as possible, even sticking to the principle of not having any "tandoori" of any kind that most people are familiar with, since that is more of a northern indian cuisine.

They do make the allowance of letting people decide the level of spiciness they want for the dishes. We always tell them to cook it the way it should be done. Just remember that, contrary to what most people think, not all Indian food are spicy and hot. The servers at the restaurant can easily recommend many dishes that are not hot if you can't stand it.

There are soooooo many good restaurants, some that stick out in my mind:

Mexican: Don Pablo's on International Drive
Chinese: PF Chang's, Mall at Millenia
Steak: Pacino's or Key West Cools on the 192
Pizza: Pizzeria Uno always good value, on 192 or I-Drive
Italian: Olive Garden, lots of them around

Just a note that if one is thinking of getting a Chicago-style deep dish pizza at Pizzeria Uno, you might be disappointed. It is not the same as the one you'd get at Pizzaria Uno (or Duo) here in Chicago. Something is just missing. I know many transplanted Chicagoan living in the Orlando area who were also disappointed with the deep dish pizza there.

That's OK, I'm a Brit - they taste pretty good to me!

Only eaten at CPK once, but I remember it well. :D Didn't know they had any that close to WDW.

Many of the restaurants in here are located at the Crossroads Shopping Center, and that area's usually where you can find a great "outside-the-World" meal. I recommend Uno's Pizzeria, though I don't recall eating anywhere else, so I'm a bit biased.

Personally, I prefer the Golden Corral just on the other side of I-4... :D

Just got back from my trip, and we generally ended up eating only one meal a day due to the horrific traffic and our home being off the beaten path. We ended up at Cafe Tu Tu Tango, Bonefish, and Taquitos Jalisco off property. All 3 meals were absolutely wonderful, my personal favorite being Taquitos.

I also second what has been said about Uno's, it is nothing like Pizzeria Uno or Due in Chicago. I lived in Chicago most of my life, and if I want something that tastes more like home in Orlando I head to Giordano's.

If you love seafood, try Shells. It's on 192 (heading east) past Superwalmart. It's off the beaten path so you won't find too many tourists there, mostly locals. We always eat there during our vacation. There aren't any in Ohio so we look forward to it every year.

Over on International Drive just outside the boundaries of the World, there is an Italian restaurant called Giordano's. We have gone there a few times in the past and ordered the greatest Chicago-style deep dish pizza. Definitely go there hungry!

Go Cardinals!!
