Best Place to Watch Illuminations

I was wondering where the best place to watch Illuminations is. Should I watch it on the Future World side of the lake or on the World Showcase side and where in World Showcase; any help would be appreciated. I enjoy watching it wherever I stand, but I would love to know the best place.

For me, it's right across from Italy in the World Showcase, right on the lagoon. Get there early and grab a bench right on the railing.

I definitely prefer the World Showcase side. Right near Italy is a good spot, but I've found you need to get there early to get an up front seat. Last time I sat in Norway once, which was great because there were up front spots available only 15 minutes before the show. The other time I sat in United Kingdom which worked well also.

Honestly, I think most spots are good. However, make sure wherever you stand, you're not downwind. Illuminations produces a ton of smoke and if the wind is blowing your way, the smoke will block your view of everything.

The World Showcase Plaza. Right in the middle, right in front of AA, right in front of the barge! Everybody sits, nobody blocks you the view! :)

Haven't done it myself - but if the winds blowing in the wrong direction, the smoke blows towards you and you can't see a thing.

I think you can call 120 days in advance and you better call on that day. We tried about 60+ days before we went in October (very slow) and they had been booked for quite some time. It's obviously very popular.

Italy or World Showcase Plaza? I'll just watch it twice and see which one is better; or even better I'll watch it three times and add Japan to the mix.

That is great! Please let us know how it is. I would still love to do that.

We had great seats for Illuminations from the veranda at the Rose & Crown Pub. Although no one at the Rose & Crown or WDW Dine can guarantee you of a seat outside, you can increase your chances by:
1. Making the PS way in advance and having the CM note that you would like to view Illuminations after dinner from your seat;
2. Informing the CM when you check-in at Rose & Crown of your wishes (and that you know they can't guarantee it).

When scouting for a spot for Illuminations, look at the torches and see which way the wind is blowing, then head in the opposite direction! Then, you won't get any smoke from the fireworks! :D

I tried to do that and the CM pretty much just laughed at me. Of course, it was pretty busy that night, but I certainly wouldn't plan on getting a patio seat.

We got great front row seats without a problem between Italy and Germany; in front of the model train. The Future World side is usually packed as people seem to be in a hurry to wait in line at the bus and monorail stations as soon as the show is over :animwink:
