Best non-Disney Hotels to Stay At

I think WoC will be just a girls night out, and we will leave the boys to fend for themselves. We had pretty good luck with just the FastPass for WoC in the past, but I might weigh in on the dinner package at Trattoria if she is game for the one on one time with the possible future stepmom in law.

I'm going the second week of August, staying at the HoJo! Last time I was there was in '09 when they were still installing WoC.

I can't wait!
Oooo i'm going back in August too!
:)

I walked by the Anabella ( one you highly recommend i check out ) and liked what i saw.
Sadly it seems to always be out of my price range, but i like the lush setting.
Thanks for the recommendation.

What did you think of the Camelot? We are probably going to be staying there in August for our trip. Any helpful hints?

Camelot features really big rooms, so it's nice to spread out. Housekeeping and upkeep in the rooms have never been an issue. Then only problem I had was one visit where the shower faucet selector dial broke and they fixed it while we were in the parks. The rooms have been quiet and the beds have been firm but comfortable. I spend a lot of late nights in the parks, so it's location next to the Pizza Press and McDonalds makes it easy to pick up something if I'm hungry. Our usual room has a view of Tomorrowland and the top of the Castle just outside the door.

If you need a place with a bit more size than average, it's a great value.

We're going back in August as well.

Oh, cool! We'll be there August 14-17! We're planning on staying at Park Vue Inn. It's across the street and has complimentary breakfast.

Nice!
Sounds like a lot of folks from this Forum will be in the Anaheim area that week.

The D23 Expo will be going on that week over at the Anaheim Convention Center, so lots of Disney fans in general will be around.
I'll be back that week so will likely check it out. My first.

Trying a new hotel this time...as the place i usually like to stay at is too overpriced in August.
Staying next door..not expecting much, but i already know the location is right for my bare minimum needs.

You can also get discounts at the Tropicana and Carousel (at least you did before Disney bought the Carousel, I don't know if they still have the offer) if you book a certain number of nights or more.
I just booked a stay at the Carousel and got a discount for booking 4 or more nights Dec. 5-10. We were going to stay at the Fairfield, because we've stayed there before and liked it. But they wanted $179/night vs the Carousel at $127/night! Any news if the Carousel will offer their guests early magic hours, since it is now owned by Disney?

Probably not. I haven't seen anything official, but my guess is that even though Disney owns it, it will still be considered a Good Neighbor hotel and not a "Resort" hotel so they won't offer the early magic hours.

We are planning a trip in early March and I will be using an ECV. I was wondering which of the hotels would be better for ease of transportation to and from the park? Would we be better to stay further away and rely on transportation or just pay for the pricer hotel to stay on property?

There are several hotels directly across the street on Harbor Blvd and are actually closer to the front gates then even the Grand California hotel.
Although i don't personally enjoy the crowds and craziness that is the scene on Harbor Blvd, it IS closer for someone in a ECV if you want to save yourself a truckload of money.

Staying at one of the Disney owned hotels ( Disneyland Hotel, or the Grand are the two closest ) is nice, but insanely expensive.
It's up to you, and your own personal tastes.

If you can spring for it, and have the cash, go ahead and go 'all out' and book the Disneyland Hotel.

My wife is disabled and has to use an ECV. Camelot Inn & Suites is now our go-to location for our Anaheim trips. Just up from the crosswalk on Harbor. The rooms are plenty big enough to get the ECV in and plugged in without having to do a lot of maneuvering. She can make it over to the parks in the morning for a couple of hours and then head back during the day and come back out as the sun sets really easily.

There is also an ECV rental located in their building. We haven't used it as we've already got a long standing relationship with Apple for our DLR trips.

I guess that raises another question then. Is it better to prearrange an ECV with a private company and so which one?

Versus using one from the Parks... most definitely. The park ECV's can't leave the gates and are much more expensive. Unless you need one as an absolute spur-of-the-moment emergency - never get one from the park.

We've used Walker in Orlando and Apple in Anaheim. My wife went through many hours of research on reviews and arrived at those choices a long time ago. We continue to go back to them now since we know what to expect and with both services, they offer discounts for repeat business.

If you do book at Camelot, look into the option located there as it would make things easier to pick up and drop off.

By and large, Anaheim is so much easier in general to deal with everything once you make it to the resort area. Everything is so close and efficient that it is honestly much less hassle than staying even on a monorail resort in Orlando. Just cross the street and you are home and if you need anything, you can typically pick it up on Harbor.

I checked the pricing for the company in the Camelot (One stop mobility) the price for one day was $135 and for 7 days it was only $275. Looks like 7 days it is.

We just stayed at the Best Western Park Place Inn, and I cannot recommend it at all. The room was very dated, Think 1970's wallpaper, old carpeting. The room was very dark, and it wasn't as clean as I would have liked. There was sticky residue all over the desk and dresser. Yes, there is a complimentary breakfast, but it was just ok. I wouldn't pay for the breakfast if given the choice. The pool was tiny.

We ended up leaving two days early, and since it was our anniversary, splurged and moved to the Disneyland Hotel.
