Having only stayed at All Stars in the past, on our next trip we plan to go up market a little and try a moderate.

In your opinons which moderate is the best in terms of location/rooms/food etc etc.

Thx

My personal favorite is Port Orleans French Quarter (formerly Port Orleans)(at the moment this hotel is closed due to cut backs...I have no idea when it will re-open. But it's sister hotel Port Orleans Riverside (formerly Dixie Landings) is also very nice. They're both smaller hotels in terms of number of rooms. Both are very quiet and have relaxing atmospheres.....a BIG difference from the All Star's you're used to. Riverside is more of a Louisianna/Georgia type theme along teh river front, sort of Gone With the Wind type theming and French Quarter is more themmed on Mardi Gras and New Orleans(don't let that fool you it's very quiet and has a COOL pool for the kids :D).

Besides those two my next choice would be Caribbean Beach...it's not as quiet but is also a great hotel...the Caribbean theming is really fun and kind of brightens up your day. I personally enjoy all the steel drum music playing non stop in the food court. :D

I've stayed at all three, and I'd have to agree that my favorite is Port Orleans French Quarter. For a moderate, it's small (about 1000 rooms). The layout is practical as far as proximity from the rooms to the pool, food court, etc.

Doubloon Lagoon (the pool) is great for adults and kids! I do remember a jacuzzi being there as well.

Good luck in your decision making!:)

French Quarter is the best!! It's nice and small so you are never far from anything. The pool, foodcourt, and lobby are very nice. They also have a boat ride from the Hotel to DTD.

I don't know if you heard but the Sassagoula boats(the boat to DTD) are no longer running another unfortunate result of the recent cut backs. :(

Heading for the great escape.
 If that is true about the boats im absoloutely gutted. That was one of the highlights for my whole family. The journey by boat to DTD was an excellent way to chill after a day in the parks. And the Cptns were all part of the entertainment with there own styles. We were hoping to go back to P Orleans riverside next summer as we thought that was the most suited to our young family.

I know, but when French Quarter opens again the boats will probably be open.

PO river side is excellent. I've stayed there twice. The pool is great, and the food is better. Not to mention very nice rooms and atmosphere.

I was impressed with PO Riverside. It has a nice foodcourt and a nice main lobby/giftshop. I would recommend both Riverside and French Quarter.

We stayed at PO Riverside on our first trip to WDW. It was absolutely magical. A very beautiful and serene setting. The pool is great, my kids loved the water slide. The food court is excellent for a family due to the many choices available. Hopefully the boats to DTD will start again, as they are a great way to travel. I have not stayed at any of the other resorts mentioned, but if they are nearly as good as POR, they must be very good.

Welcome Home.

All your thoughts are very welcome and thanks for taking the time to reply. The majority of you seem to agree with other people I have spoken with. French Quarter is looking very much a favourite. I love the idea of the boat rides to DTD.

My kids will be 5 & 7 when we go. Is this the best resort for kids of that age??

The pool sounds great, and as they are both swim crazy it sounds ideal.

I think Port Orleans: Riverside is by far the better moderate. The food court, I feel, is the best on property. The lobby/main buildings is HUGE and very well themed. The main pool, I say is the best mod. pool (slide, waterfall, bar!) The boat shuttle to Downtown Disney is very, very convenient and relaxing. Or simply rent your own boat!

What else can I say, riverside is my favorite and IMO the best moderate.

With the French quarter and the Riverside being joined by a lovely walkway you have the chance to use two differently themed pools that are suitable for kids of all ages. But my kids enjoyed the quiet pools situated between the blocks in the bauyo section of riverside. It was great to be able to go for a splash at any time out of the door and into the water.
I am deffinately going back though Im tempted by the Wilderness resort.

PO-Riverside is really great. If the boats are running, there's nothing like a cup of coffee in the evening, cruising down the river to DTD, singin' "When You Wish Upon a Star". (Sigh);)

My favorite moderate is definetely (<--I know I spelled that wrong) Port Orleans Riverside. If you stay there, Stay at one of the Mansions like Magnolia bend or something. All the mansions have their own pool and they are so nice and peaceful after a long day at the parks. The only bad thing about this place is the restaurant that is in their um I can't think of the name but there are 2 restaurants. Eat at Boatwrights dining hall. Thats a good table service restaurant. The other one I mentioned is like fast food and My god that is the nastiest food I have ever eaten, We had breakfast there and I made the mistake of buying what was supposed to be biscuits and gravy but it was more like rocks with milk poured on top of it. Has anyone else had the same experience at this restaurant? And whats the name of it? Any way last but not least. Go to Mousesavers.com and they have some codes you can use right now for moderates for like $84 I'm thinking. Well there's my 2 cents.
