Best Deluxe resort

I have never even thought of staying at a deluxe resort, but we may have 5 people in our group so I have to consider it. I therefore need recommendations on the best deluxe resort for a family of 5 with three sons age 26 18 and 16. I am not interested in any of the villas since we do not need a kitchenette and a pull out will be fine.
Thanks

Well my vote would go to the Yacht Club especially if you enjoy Epcot. It is great being able to just walk over. Only monorail resort I have stayed at is Contemporary and while it was nice it was a little dull to me. :lookaroun Alot of people enjoy the Poly. Have fun.

Standard rooms at AKL and WL won't accommodate 5 people, so you need to go with the more expensive deluxe resorts - or the All-Star Music Family Suites - or a room at Port Orleans Riverside with the trundle bed (if the 16yo will fit), or the Fort Wilderness Cabins.

Depending on your budget, it may just be best to get 2 value resort rooms.

I second the Yacht Club. Stayed there for our honeymoon and thought the location was great. The international gateway is close by for entrance to EPCOT and the boats where there for DHS. The Boardwalk is close by with ESPN Zone and a bakery too.

But to be honest, having your 3 sons stay with you in one room there may be a bit "cozy". I wouldn't say that if your kids were of elementary school age, but 28/18/16 would mean they are MEN and elbow room might come at a premium. Although it is a Deluxe hotel, the rooms aren't what I would consider Large; perhaps 20% more room than a Value level room.

WE have not been on a family vacation in several years since our oldest lives 3000 KM away. All of us in one room may be a bit much, though he is the smallest at 5'6". Two value rooms may be an option. I like the idea of the beach club, due to it being near epcot, though my wife likes the theming of the Poly.

My favorite is the Poly....it's a really beautiful resort with nice pool. Great places to eat, easy access to the other resorts on the monerail trail so you can go try out the food at their resorts as well. See fireworks from the beach area. Even the lobby is nice and has comfy chairs, great place to grab a cup of coffee and people watch.

I'd go 2 rooms at WL, for the ambience or 2 rooms at Beach club because of the killer pool and location close to Epcot, the boardwalk, and DHS. AKL is too far away from everything for me, and the Contemporary seems dated. GF is nice but not worth the money except for a romantic get away. The Poly is nice but I prefer the WL.

Another vote for the BC, 'simply' because of the location - walking to Epcot, HS, Boardwalk, Fantasia Gardens etc, and the pool area; and the beach; and the Yachtsman Steakhouse; and Beaches & Crea; and .... did I say simply??

I'd say if you don't need a kitchen or kitchenette, you shouldn't discount splitting up the party into two rooms (that might wind up connecting anyway).

First of all, with a room of 5 people, 4 of them over the age of 17, if you're going to be honest with WDW about their ages, you'll pay an extra 50 dollars on top of the cost of the room. Room rates are based on double occupancy, but deluxe resorts seem to charge 25 bucks for each additional adult after the first 2 adults. Children 17 and under staying with parents are no additional charge, so the 16 year old is free. But the 18 and 26 year old in the same room will cost ya.

Now it looks like the least expensive resort, during Value season, would be the Contemporary Garden Wing, 280 a night, plus 50 for the 2 add'l adults. SO, 330 a night for Value season (I don't know when you're going)

In comparison, TWO rooms in a MODERATE resort during Value Season would be 300 a night. For that, you'll have more room and TWO bathrooms. What you'll be giving up is (potentially) prime locations. Since the Contemporary puts you within walking distance of the MK, and the monorail can get you to TTC for a monorail ride to Epcot...well, you have to decide what the value for that is to your family.

Again, the Contemporary is the LEAST EXPENSIVE Value resort that can accommodate 5 to a room. Beach Club, Yacht Club, Boardwalk start at 385 for 5 people (4 adults) in a room, $405 for Poly, $450 for GF, all of this Value Season pricing. Animal Kingdom & Wilderness Lodge only accommodate 4 people each.

Some other options would include staying at the Cabins at Fort Wilderness (sleep 6 starting at 265 a night, but only one bathroom and the full kitchen you say you don't want), or staying at the Swan or Dolphin. Neither one of these resorts is an official Disney resort, but they're both walking/boat distance to Epcot and the Hollywood Studios (something in which you expressed interest). You'll still get Disney transportation while there, but I don't think you can use Disney's Magical Express, and if you have a car, you will be paying extra for parking in the hotel's lots.

One final thought for potentially saving money would be if one or two members of your party got an annual pass. Annual passholders often get discounts on rooms. You'd only need one person to get an annual pass if you were going to get all 5 in a room, 2 people will need Annual Passes to get discounts on two rooms (I believe this is the case; in the past, one annual passholder could book up to three rooms at a time, but I think now, each room has to have one passholder).

Good luck, hope that helps.

EDIT: Just went to the Swan/Dolphin's website, and they have a special deal throughout the year - book one room, and the second room for the same time is only 99 a night.

If room for everyone is what you are looking for I know from experience that the Poly has the most room. Thats if you want to stay in the delux and you can afford it. But the Beach Club has the most to do for your grown up kids as they can walk around the Boardwalk and have some fun. But then for probably around the same price as the Poly you could get two rooms at a value resort. It all adds up to what you guys want and what 'the boys' want.

When are you planning on going? If it is during value season and you purchased a AP, you'd probably be able to get 40% off. There's a good chance you'd be looking at a 35% discount even without the AP during value season as well.

Only certain resorts will accomodate 5 foks...deluxe or not... My favorite continues to be the Poly, but if you are not going to be spending too much time in the MK then it might not be the best choice based on your kids ages.

I realize you said that you don't need a kitchen, but you can actually stay CHEAPER by using DVC points than by booking a normal DELUXE room directly through disney.

Your cheapest bet for staying in a Deluxe resort and having room for 5 people would be to rent points and stay at a Disney Vacation Resort. You could get a 2 bedroom villa (with full kitchen and 2 bathrooms). I would recommend Old Key West for the largest size and lowest point number. Check here to find people renting points. Best deal would be in the $9 or lower range per point.

http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=29

You can find out how many points you would need for when you will be staying here:

http://www.tagrel.com/dvcCompChart.shtml

You can read more about renting points in general here (tips for a safe transaction, etc.):

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1255828

Are you or anyone going currently in or retired from the military? If so, you can get rooms at 40% off at any resort through
December!

You could also consider getting 2 studio rooms at Old Key West using DVC points - this would give you 4 queen beds! Here is an example of savings (I don't know the dates you are looking at so I picked some).

November 5-12 (7 Nights):

2 standard rooms at Value Resort = $210 a night
2 studios at Old Key West (a Deluxe Resort) using rented DVC points (at $8 a point - what I got for my trip in August) = $187 a night (and no tax!!!)
1 room at Animal Kingdom Lodge (standard view) = $290 a night

You pay less money and get to stay at a Deluxe resort - much nicer than the value resorts. Hope that helps :)

The post above mine is 100% correct. Check out www.dvcrequest.com If you rent points from a DVC member you can get get a studio at Old Key West or Animal Kindgom Lodge Sun-Friday for about 1/4 of the pirce your going to pay for a room at a deluxe resort. I've done it 2 times now....My upcomming trip in August only cost me 650$ for 5 nights at Old Key West.

If your not interested in doing that though...I'm going to throw votes in for the Beach Club (Because you can walk into the World Showcase and enjoy a pastry in France) and Poly (because the resort is beautiful, clean, and has monorail stop).

Glad to see someone else agrees with me

There are certainly benefits to some of the other DVC resorts. The only reason I pointed out Old Key West is because you would have 4 beds = 1 for you and your wife/husband and 1 for each of your boys. The other DVC resorts would not have as many beds and would cost more

prspeppers - we will be at OKW the week before you in a 2 bedroom villa!

The family and I have stayed at AKL villias, BCV, OKW, SSR, have not stayed at no others. We have stayed at OKW, BCV, AKL Villas. For my taste would be OKW, if you choose I would say OKW. Ask for building 13, it's the closest the Hospitality House. So when the bus comes to take you to where you want to go it's the last stop before you go to the parks. Then at the end of the evening you are the last, or if there aren't alot, or any other riders on the bus the driver sometimes lets you off at the HH, then it's just a short, VERY short walk to your room. Very big rooms and very quiet too.
