Being vegetarian at WDW...

Hi! I'd like to be able to enjoy some of the fun restaurants, and even some of the fast food at the WDW theme parks...but, I'd like to make sure that there's a vegetarian option where I chose to go. And does anyone know of a place inside the parks or the resorts that have really great vegetarian options?

Thanks!

This question comes up a lot. There are plenty of options for you. While I am not a vegetarian I do eat meatless meals often.

Check out the info on allearsnet.

Most of the food locations have veggie options. The better the location, the better the options. Most of the burger & fries places have Boca Burger :hurl: . The restaurants have at least one veggie entree. Last trip, my wife had her best veggie entrees at California Grill and Le Cellier. Even the Crystal Palace and Chef Mickey's had good stuff.

Counter service in MK didn't seem to offer a lot.
Tusker House at AK is great.
MGM is a little rough for counter service
Epcot will be kickin with the Sunshine Food Festival.

While sit-down's have the veggie option, you can always call the restaurant ahead of time and talk to the chef (We've never done that though)

There are actually a lot of places where you can find more info if you are interested...

Vegetarian Walt Disney World and Greater Orlando is a book dedicated to the subject with reviews and recomendations

The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World includes discussion of food related issues and a list of top restaurants as chosen by vegetarions in WDW.

And this website- http://www.vegetarian-restaurants.net/OtherInfo/DisneyLand.htm -has a lot of suggestions.

Hope that helps some!

I'm an extremely picky eater (have been since I was a baby and I don't know why). When I'm in Disney, all I eat is Grilled Cheese Sandwiches and fries at the resort, Cheese Pizza, and French Fries. That's my lunch and dinner everyday at Disney. I've tried to eat other foods but I just get sick. I don't eat meat but I don't eat salads either.....I'm a freak

If you call the restuarant ahead of time (about 24 hrs) they will accomodate you with any dietary needs. Disney is very good about making sure there is someting for everyone to eat.

I know what you mean about being more of a carbohydratarian...rather than eating those vegies!

And you all have been sooooooooooooooooo helpful! Thank you! Thank you!

I think you'll find a lot of options-I'm like Mad, I'm not a vegitarian but I don't always eat meat with my meals and I have always found lots of good stuff. Sometimes the vegi's are the yummiest option!!

You have already received some great answers from all the nice people on this board. As a vegetarian I have asked this question here before.
Here are some personal favorites of mine:

Restaurant Marrakesh- Vegetable Cous-Cous
Beaches and Cream- Veggie burger and fries
MGM Commissary- Hummus wrap and black bean salad

And all the breakfasts have so many choices but Boma really strikes a chord with me because they had some unique grains/rice selections.

Have fun and please share what you enjoyed, I will be curious.

My family fights on who feeds me when we are in Disney. Most of the time, I just get a drink and steal everybody's fries. They don't eat them anway :D

Except for the pricier restaurants youll pretty much be eating fries and salads.

Naw, you just gotta be aware of the different places before you go.

Magic Kingdom - Counter Service
Cosmic Ray's - Earthly Delight Vegetarian Burger
Columbia Harbour House - Lighthouse Sandwich - hummus with tomato & broccoli slaw
Tomorrowland Terrace Noodle Station - Vegetarian with Tofu Noodle Bowl
PINOCCHIO'S VILLAGE HAUS - Vegetarian Burger

The Plaza Restaurant is not counter service, but it's virtually the same price. It has Wrapped up in the Garden - fresh spinach, bibb lettuce, hummus, grilled portobello mushrooms, roasted red peppers rolled in a tomato-basil wrap, served with sweet potato chips

And I didn't even mention Pizza.

Just stay away from Pecos Bill's and Casey's

That's just counter service. All the full service restaurants have good options.
