This is ridculous. Teetotalers are going to overreact. Lushes are going to minimize.

We don't really need to start cataloging any of this.

The last time in was in Epcot for F&W was 2009.. I went several consecutive years prior to that. Maybe things have totally changed since my visits to F&W.. I’m just doubtful that it’s always as distracting as people here make it sound.

Outside of F&W I’m also doubtful that it’s a common distracting occurrence.

A lot has changed in almost 10 years, all around. In the interest of full disclosure, the worst of it is at night and on the weekends, with locals and CM's being the over-represented problem children, IMO.

I'm not sure anyone has ventured to guess how many occurrences there are, and I'm not sure how reasonable it is to qualify peoples' position on the matter by that estimation. I think we all know (and judging by the verbiage of your quoted post here), that people raise the concern quite often here and elsewhere. As someone who is fairly local (and lived within 10 minutes of the resort for over 10 years), I can tell that it happens, and regularly. As much as possible, I avoid these slobs when I see them to the extent I'm able to. I really prefer not to follow them around the park to see who they spill their beer on, or stumble into, for example, as I'm really just focused on relaxing and having a good time. I've regularly witnessed this happen to others, and their children as well. The threshold for BS is much lower when the kids are in tow. The fact that there are always many children in the park really demonstrates why the behavior is really never ok there.

I’ll repeat what I’ve said in a different “evil alcohol” thread.. I had no idea that there were so many people who apparently think that children in atmosphere where drinking is happening is — bad. I’m talking casual day time drinking or ordering a cocktail at a restaurant.

It very well could have changed, I just only hear so many stories here.. not from real life. I guess those other people are just lucky.

FWIW, World Showcase was packed during our last Thanksgiving holiday trip.. a lot of rude people, pushing, strollers on back of feet, etc. Maybe those people were all drunk, I just assumed they were brats.

My wife and I have had a few encounters over the years with drunk guests in the World. I know this will come as a surprise, but this mostly has occurred at EPCOT, I know, it's hard for me to believe also.

Last year there were three cases, one involved us and two we were just voyeurs to.

The first happened in September during Food and Wine, yet another surprise. We were leaving the park and I was trying out my new fisheye lens on that big ball. A group of people, maybe five to seven, came walking by. Two of the women and one guy were falling down drunk, when I say falling down one of the woman wiped out. She lost her drink during the fall. Anyway, these people were loud, swearing and just plain obnoxious. Now I have no problem with people being drunk or even cussing and such, but you need to be in control of yourself. Their conversation was fairly colorful, we have no kids, so this once again didn't bother me. There were kids around though and I am sure these parents didn't care for their kids to see and hear this group.

The second happen when we were visiting in December, we were waiting in line to ride Frozen-Ever-After. There was a couple behind us that enjoyed a little to much of the hooch. Once again, the lady needed to be held up by her companion most of our trip through the line and they just reeked of alcohol. They weren't really loud or being overly obnoxious, it was the smell, occasional bump and remarks about waiting. By the time we got to the CM that directed us to our row, my wife kiddingly asked the CM if she could put the people behind us in a different boat. Sure enough the CM took them out of line and had them wait for the next boat. I felt bad, I did.

The last time was again during December at EPCOT. We were sitting on a wall near the bridge by the International Gateway waiting for Illuminations to start. A little before the show started a younger couple sat next to us. They were obviously par-taking in adult beverages. They must not have known each other well, they were asking questions like favorite color, food etc. Yes, I know, but they seemed like they were in their mid to late twenty's. Well this conversation carried over to sexual questions and went to the point of getting a little physical. Luckily they decided to leave and perhaps take the show somewhere more private.

Well those are my last three dealings with drunk people at Disney. Has anyone else had these encounters?

Best and funniest thing ive seen at Epoct was during the F&W a older lady on a scooter ran smack into a garbage can. Her wine went flying and lucky she was not hurt but i was laughing for hrs. there are a lot of people that get excited for the F&W but for the most part they are just trying to have fun and if they are not causing a problem who cares.

And I'll reiterate that I drink in front of my kids, regularly. There's a difference between drinking alcohol (even to the point of getting buzzed), and getting drunk. We don't have an "evil alcohol" problem, we have a people problem.

Sure, I just think some folks misjudge how many drunk a-holes would just be sober a-holes if there wasn't any alcohol around.

I agree. I’ll exclude you from the subject of my post then, but there are plenty of people here who do think that alcohol shouldn’t be in the parks, because alcohol shouldn’t be around kids. I’m not assuming, I’m going by what I have read.

The OP here actually sounds refreshingly reasonable.. and acknowledges that he is people watching... so he’s definitely more likely to notice something that a lot of us may not.

We all believe in different values, different Gods, different ideas. Some drink, some don’t. When you impose one upon the other it makes you a Dictator. The irony is we are all on this site for the same reason yet, so many with such in common have so little in common!

Three times, and I lived in Orlando from 2011 to 2014 and was at Epcot about one night a week during that time.

One bachelorette party, one group of UCF bros, and one lady hunched over on a bench.


I think part of the problem is that people legitimately see boorish behavior and automatically attribute it to alcohol, completely ignoring the fact that some people are just boorish.

A couple of years ago, at the F&W, I was enjoying a martini in a very crowded Rose & Crown Pub when I saw a commotion on the far side. Someone fell down, and I thought it was a medical thing until the guy was dragged upright by his buddies. Then I could see that he was totally HAMMERED! He draped himself over the bar and passed out, only to wake up long enough to SPEW all over everything - the bar, the floor, glasses, the cash register - everything! Took 2 Disney clean-up specialists to sanitize everything. Totally gross!

Yes I have seen that kind of drunken behavior at Rose & Crown also, except for the throwing up part. One time we were there to have dinner and I went to the ladies room, while in there, a man came in to the ladies room and stepped into the empty stall next to me and did his business. When I finished and stepped out to wash my hands there was another lady waiting for her turn. She looked and me and said to me "I don't think he realizes he is in the woman's rest room". Few minutes later he stepped out of the stall and looked and me and the other lady, with a shocked look on his face he said I'm sorry to both of us and walked out really fast. We just laughed but you really could smell the alcohol on his breath. Walking back to my table there he was with his group drinking away, he looked at me and I just laughed at him and shook my head.

This was the first time I ever created a thread, this one and the thread CM's who lost it.

I have to say there have been many good exchanges of thought. The thread wasn't meant to imply that I don't think people should drink or that they shouldn't be drunk. I drink as does my wife. I have had drinks at WDW on more than one occasion. As I stated before, as long as you are not causing trouble for other guests or CM's than it's not an issue. I just observe people and I am always interested in people.

As others have pointed out, I too do not care for rude people, this is whether they are drinking, drunk or sober. Rude people suck. I have seen way more rude people than I have seen drunk people. That would be a different thread I think.

The thread was more of an observation than a judgement. Some have never or rarely experienced it after many visits and some, myself included, have seen it more often. Since 1994 I have seen it at least eight times that I can think of. My wife says I have a good memory and I don't forget much. So, even over that amount of time, it really isn't that many times.

I will never have a single sip of alcohol in my life for personal reasons

but I would never restrict or force that lifestyle choice on someone else.

I understand what you’re saying, and it actually was a good idea for a thread.
It just appeared so soon after another “alcohol shouldn’t be in the parks” thread, that I was just a little flabbergasted to see how many people spend more time worrying about other people rather than themselves...or maybe the better description is - try to force their choices on everyone else.
