Being Drunk in the World

Yes I know and I agree with you that Disney is adding the alcohol to increase revenue after all they are a business. But, even though there are responsible drinkers and unfortunately there are some drinkers that are not responsible that can put a damper on it for others. I have encountered people at the "Food and Wine Festival at Epcot who are so drunk that they are all over the place bumping into people, yelling, being rude and using profanity. I have also seen people who are drunk and still holding a drink in there hand and are throwing up in the garbage cans. Guess they can't figure out that it is time to stop. Sometimes it is hard to enjoy your time at the park when you have people bumping into you. swearing and spilling drinks on you than have to walk around smelling like alcohol.
Well, you've heard the old adage, "First the man takes a drink, then the drink takes a drink, then the drink takes the man."

I don't subscribe to that philosophy, but I've been seen my share of drunken fools...

It is all about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for Disney.

(Full disclosure: I do not drink. I do not mind being around people who do choose to drink and attend many functions where people are drinking. But someone who is DRUNK is disgusting to me. And I really feel sorry for those who don't think they can have a good time without getting drunk.)

I hear a lot about drunks at Epcot and now with alcohol being served at MK, I'm hearing complaints about that too. I don't really drink myself, but the truth is I've never even noticed any drunk people at all.

I’ve never encountered people are so vehemently against/afraid of alcohol.. until reading certain threads on this site.

Alcohol? I'm actually a big fan of the stuff. Ordered a flight at Flying Fish a week ago and I gotta say, the Highland Park 25 was some of the best whisky I've ever had. This was after some Laphroaig 10 and Johnnie Black in AbracadaBar. Now, the problem isn't the drink, it's the ridiculous drunken slobs who possess no respect for others and less for themselves. Typically, there are dives geared specifically toward that sort of er, vomit, but a family-oriented theme park? Not so much.

It's a cross some of us bear for the betterment of society.
Exactly my concern with the increased usage of booze in the MK. The kids don't need to be subjected to drunken actions or words. Come on people!
You must have missed this post from earlier.
The number of people who are going to get crap faced on $8 Blue Moons at Crystal Palace numbers in the nones.
It's not like they've started a "Drink around the Lands" program (that's a good idea, though).

They've added basic beers and wines to the table service restaurants at MK.

You guys are acting like Alice is going to be handing out Jello-shots at the teacups (another good idea).

I find exposure to unfettered greed/consumerism to be much more damaging in the longterm than drunkenness....

Now I’ll go back to munching on these pearls...

Guys, you have to remember that everyone here has not been here forever. So many folks DON'T know what's been posted before and some times some thing that's been discussed before is may still be relevant. I did a quick search simply using the keyword "drunks" and the threads it brought up are 10, 12 years old. I think I saw one from 2 years ago. so a new person might not know this has been discussed before.
Chill

I agree. My thought is if I want to talk about something, I want to post it now and discuss it with people currently here, not add on to a 10 year old post.

I don't get why people get so upset about that. Seems like you either repeat a topic and get griped at or get griped at because you resurrected a decade old post.

The drunks enforce themselves on others. And that includes anyone after roughly three drinks. The volume goes up, the movements become uncontrolled, the behaviour erratic.

There is good reason why nobody is allowed to drive after three glasses, and any public place with the least bit of class that is not a bar or restaurant will enforce this same standard.

That is a tough comparison. Driving drunk prohibitions are enforced because it is dangerous. Public intox in not nearly as dangerous.

Put it another way, it is the same category as profanity or dress code. It is also open for personal opinion. Public intox people that are giggly and clumsy and not cussing, puking, or being rude are far more 'classy' than people using profanity, cutting, spitting, wearing tank tops, flip flops, tacky t-shirts, or... the list goes on.

Of course add inebriation to all of the above and yes, I admit, you have a social cringe fest on your hands.

Isn’t there a 2 drink (beer or wine) limit with a meal? (And you must order a meal?)

I don't drink often at WDW, but when I do, there has never been a 2 drink minimum. I typically have 4+. And no, I don't start cussing, stripping, or other obnoxious behavior. ...other than smiling absolutely constantly. A trained eye could probably tell I am tanked, but most cannot.

If you did confront a completely inebriated person about their behavior, what outcome do you expect? Surely not a pleasant one and if your child is your primary concern, would there not be a risk of him/her witnessing far worse behavior due to you confronting said drunkey?

That's not really fair. I give it a better than 70% that the drunk would be apologetic and correct their behavior upon request. That has been my experience.

...for about 10 minutes until they forget anyway.

...5 minutes

I think people usually go over the top with extreme opinions on these type of threads (freedom of speech and all that though, so ok). We have the folk who seem to think that somebody objecting to somebody else puking up is saying that nobody should be allowed to drink, or that all those who do drink are somehow to blame for the minority of people who 'act up' after drinking. I seriously doubt that more than a tiny minority (if any) are saying that.

We also get some of those who like to drink responsibly themselves within the parks who seem to believe that if you mind your own business that you won't notice drunks. I agree that you really wouldn't notice the vast majority of people who've sampled a few drinks, but let's not pretend that there aren't times when drinkers make themselves known at the expense of other's enjoyment.

Personally I've never seen anyone drunk in the daytime at the F & W festival, however at night time I have and I certainly don't go looking for them. It's a fine balancing act really as you could argue that a nice friendly buzz after a few drinks, enhances one's enjoyment of the parks and why should that be a problem. Unfortunately sometimes after a few the person who's merrily sozzled fails to realise how they impact on others and thinks that walking into somebody or being much too loud isn't a problem, when it can be.

None drinkers are classed as boring or square by some, those who drink alcohol are classed as 'drunks' by others. Both statements are extreme examples and in most cases completely untrue. However let's be honest and admit that there are problem drinkers that do spoil it for others. That's not an attack on all drinkers, just those who become complete jerks when they drink.

You had me up until “flip flops”.,

What’s wrong with flip flops?!

Yes
Had to say something controversial. :p

They do rate pretty low on the class-o-meter. Except maybe the sparkly ones with gemstones all over them.

They just scream city folk and Northerners. Outside of the carefully curated beaches, there are too many fire ants, sand spurs, and cow killers just lying in wait.

That's a great idea! Sorry about your ex issues. I agree. Let's kick out all the Brazilian tour groups, Cheerleader troupes, any chanters at all, parents that yell at their kids, people who say things that aren't PC, people that stink, people that wear ill fitting clothes, people that stop in the middle of a walkway, strollers, EMV's, sick people, or anything that you deem offensive or irritating to you. There should be an app that allows you to alert Disney Security. It would be a much more enjoyable experience.
Nobody likes an obnoxious drunk, but unless they are breaking some sort of rule then they have just as much right to be there as any other a-hole.
Wouldn't "being there" and "drunk" actually BE "breaking some sort of rule"? Like called "Public Intoxication" or something like that? LOL!
