 FYI...Rocket to the Moon presented by Trans World Airlines..famous for the moonliner rocket...was an attraction at Disneyland USA's first version of tomorrowland. When the ride was updated to Flight to the Moon I beleive by Mcdonnel Douglas..happened around the time of tomorowland 67. Then came Mission to Mars at Disneyland USA around 1974.

When the Magic Kingdom of Walt Disney World opened in 1971...because the speedway and skyway were I think the only original attractions that opened in tomorrowland on opening day...we [WDW] quickly got a clone of Flight to the Moon that opened around December/Holiday break 1971 I think...Later we got Mission To Mars...I'd love to just see that ride for the heck of it...hahaha ;)

Then with the new tomorrowland 94 we got the extraTERRORestrail alien encounter. Which was replaced by... you know what

I think the moonliner theaters are still in their original shape. Also the preshows are in their original shape as well, though the decor and show presentation has of coruse changed over the years.

1970's high tech

The special effects included a movie played on the wall while your seat vibrated. At lift off the seat sank in to simulate G force as the well worn scratchy movie showed visions (moving paintings... essentially) of space travel.
No matter.. I still loved it as a kid...

I remember Mission to Mars rather well from when I was a kid. The preshow showed what was suppsed to be a control room. The animatronics were very slow and choppy (think SSE). The main show had seats in a circle (like they are now) and there was a round screen in the center on the "floor" of the spacecraft and another round screen on the "ceiling" of the craft. It was a very elementary attraction compared to today's standards. The one thing that was cool (and a little surprising) was that when you "land", the seats sink giving you that weird gravity feeling.
