I can't blame Logan, West Wing is a bit scary but he sure did better than I would! Disney is such a cool place for kids to over come past fears. I called them Disney milestones :) One year, they're cautious on so many things, the next year, they take on almost any challenge :) My son was petrified of water slides one year, the next (thanks to an awesome lifeguard who talked him through it) we couldn't get him off the slides LOL. We STILL talk about that!! How cool Logan was able to get his fav sitter!!! It's memories like these that you will hear EVERY trip... "Hey Mom, remember when...!?!?!?"

Oh he is already doing the whole do you remember that. I love the fact that we can do that and know we will be able to do it for years to come.

20 year olds know everything don't they?! It's nice that she doesn't want to waste her parents money on a DVC membership! I know what you mean about the bees by the pool, but I don't think it's just Kidani's pool. DD15 got stung by the BLT pool in July. Luckily she wasn't allergic and the lifeguard had something for her, but I'm guessing she won't be too keen on hanging out by the pool again. I understand that they don't want to exterminate them, but something should be done so that the paying guests can enjoy the pool.
Looking forward to the rest of your report!

Yes they do think they know everything. It was just interesting to listen to her...lol. Oh by no means do we think its exclusive to AKV, at WL it was a snake in May. So we know they have things at every place. But yeah Logan wasn't so keen on the pool after that!

Wednesday August 7, 2013: Day Six

Warning, I had a lot to write about today….and we had a lot of food issues…

DSC03600.jpg

The morning started with bad news back home as we found out my parents house was broken into. We had plans to head there on the way home and would have to wait to see the damage but with three full days left there was little we could do and so they told us we should enjoy the time while we were still there and so with that we plunged along with our day eating breakfast and heading down to the buses. Today we had plans to do Hollywood Studios. Really we only had two rides we wanted to do. Toy Story Mania and Star Tours.

DSC03583.jpg

Of course this seems to be everyone else’s mission as well. But we knew this and so even if it did say 105 minutes for Toy Story, we jumped in line and prepared to wait. Now when waiting in line especially with young kids I know it isn’t always easy. A family came up behind us soon got in line and the moment they did it was clear this family was going to be a pain in the butt. It should have been an indication when the son ran straight into me without saying a word, next the kid ran into Logan grabbing him around the collar. They clearly weren’t a family that was going to listen to rules and did not think they applied to them. Soon the little boy went behind the barriers an began to climb all over the displays and sets, despite the several warnings and questions from both cast members and loud speakers asking them to stop. They continued. The kid grabbed a hold of Andy’s shorts and tried to yank them down. I will not lie we weren’t exactly sad to see them separated from us when we got up to the front. After the ride wasn’t eventful, Logan and I played against daddy, and he of course won, though if you asked Logan mommy and he did!!!

DSC03589.jpg

After we made a beeline for Star Tours but with a 90-minute wait we decided to grab lunch instead. We found the Backlot Express which we hadn’t been to in ages and decided to give it a try again. With Logan and I off to find a seat, Andy talked to the managers so they could special make my without cheese and half the other stuff. They were more than happy to accommodate but we had to have a pager. No problem. Andy went up and grabbed lunch once it went off. But when I looked at mine it had everything I couldn’t have, so Andy went back up and thankfully they took care of it being more than apologetic and gave me a dessert for the troubles. While it had dairy in it, I couldn’t eat it, the gesture was still nice.

We were able to hit up Star Tours to the delight of little man who has decided it is by far his favoritiest ride ever!!! Our combination was different from any of the others we had done, which made him doubly excited. He spent the rest of his piggy bank money in the Star Wars gift shop, I would like to think this is just a phase, but I don’t think it is. So I may as well learn to like it.

With our two rides accomplished and the mid day rush going strong we decided to head out, Logan wanted to spend the rest of the afternoon enjoying his new toys. Andy and I hoped he would take a nap, but at 4 ½ this is pretty impossible anymore. Still we were able to get him to at least take a break long enough to check in with my parents.

Up next:

An evening at Magic Kingdom and our first not so great dinning experience..

Day Six continues....

My favorite picture

Time to rant:

Now Liberty Tree Tavern has always been one of our favorites. We check in this evening and have a short wait before we were called, and sat in the Thomas Jefferson room. We were looking forward to dinner, we were all starving and loving the thought of turkey and mac and cheese. And then our waitress came out, her name Nancy. She looked quickly at our ticket and noticed my allergies. With a funny face she looked at me and said. ‘Well with all these allergies I don’t know how you can eat anything, especially here.’ rather snootily before taking off. Now yes I realize I have several allergies. Most are not of the normal kind (beef and pork especially). But never have I been more ashamed of them. And I didn’t realize turkey was now considered beef. She asks what we want to drink, we order including water and she informs us she has to check to make sure its allowed. Umm water??? I know its policy to have the chef come out, but Logan really wanted water. The chef came out and it was fine. The food has been better but by this point I was just so embarrassed at the comment that I didn’t care. Nancy didn’t even really come around and when she did it was with smart remarks. I hate to say it put a sour mood in my mouth. While I am not one to complain about things, for the first time I actually spoke to the manager on the way out. I don’t know if it was the waitress’s intention to insult, but insult she did. In the end the manager apologized but that was about it.

End of rant.

DSC03612.jpg

Logan after food seemed to have caught his second win and so he decided we must do Buzz again. The line was 75 minutes long; we noticed the fastpass was only 45 minut6es from now. Perfect! So we waited it out which was perfect timing to grab a shot of the rocket as it was launched. It was pretty amazing to watch I must say. But it was soon time to go back to Buzz. We boarded our space rocket, where wouldn’t you know I whipped around and began to shoot and somehow I managed to get 999,999 in the first room. Yep….Andy of course saw this and was amazed as he has been trying to achieve this for years. Needless to say he was a teensy bit jealous. After Buzz with plenty of energy we hit up Philharmagic and enjoyed every minute of listening to Logan giggle through the entire thing. Yes he did, well that and clap. Afterwards he thought that was totally awesome and said that Donald was the funniest little duck.

We needed to slow down the night though, and so with another round or people mover Logan discovered the raceway. Of course he had to ride with daddy while I stayed behind…We closed out the night dancing in the streets to Thriller. I don’t know what was more amusing knowing and watching Logan move or having him tell us that Bruno Mars sings that.

Generation gap anyone?

Just got all caught up! Sorry to hear about the allergy issues. One reason we love WDW so much is how accommodating they have been for my wife and her gluten intolerance. That really stinks that the server set a bad tone for the dinner.

I'm also very allergic to pork......like I will die.....it's bad, and now they are thinking dairy. I was told as you get older and have 1 food allergy it's only a matter of time before more pop up. :( I am never really worried when I visit WDW because I do my research, and I know they have always been awesome in the past, but still I always talk with the Chef just in case. It sucks that lady was rude to you about your health issues!!!

I have to say that your little man is just so sweet! He loves his momma too! Love the story about BOG/West Wing, and even though it scared him he will go back just for you!!! Poor little man.....how did he do when he met Beast?

Wow. Yes someone who understands my allergy. As for alerting you are absolutely right. I still get nervous because, but it hasn't been an issue so far so that is good...still you just never know. Thanks for following along. I should be getting to more in about a half hour.

My son is the greatest and is so awesome. I came really lucky with him, though I swear he is an old man in a young body from time to time.

DSC03627.jpg

With two full days left we were determined to make the most of it. No sleeping in after nine today.. Rather we got up, got moving and made the call to hit up EPCOT since Logan wanted to do Soarin’ again. Instead of waiting the 90 minute plus we snagged us some Fastpasses for 3:50 in the afternoon and headed for Journey into the Imagination. It was the first time introducing Logan to Figment. And just like Philharmagic the night before, he laughed and clapped along to the whole thing. In the end Logan decided he like Figment and thought it was a good idea to continue and use our imagination. Good thinking little man good thinking.

After Imagination it was time to head up front to do Spaceship Earth. I must admit I never thought my son would like these rides once he got big enough to ride the other ones. But according to him, well you can love all kinds of rides. Not just the crazy rides. Smart little boy I have there. Plus he says he likes getting educated on the ride. Yes he is 4. With plenty of time before our fastpasses we had time to hit up Nemo and lunch in America. Yes today I should have probably put on my roller-skates as it seems like all we did was cross the park a couple thousand times.

And now we come to a part where I had to keep a promise to Logan. When we first got here, he immediately spotted those Mickey Mouse ears ice cream bars. Problem being the whole allergic to dairy like dear old mommy. Andy and I had talked about it trying to figure out the best way to handle it before the trip. And we decided despite his allergy, he would have one. Yes it would hurt his stomach but if we were prepared for a potential attack, medicine on hand, bathroom on hand then at least one could be shared between Andy and him. So off we went to get a hold of one. He had been so patient and the look in his eyes as people enjoyed them around him had been hard enough. It was time. His reaction was priceless.

DSC03650.jpg

‘This is going to be soooo worth it.’ And it was. I thoroughly enjoyed watching him eat it, even if he didn’t have much of it at all. After two bites, all he could handle he handed it off to his daddy to finish.

Again a storm was moving in, really more rain? Yes, apparently so and we made a mad dash to Soarin’ just in time for it to clear it up when we got out. Perfect timing as we had to make our way back to the Lodge. Andy and I had an evening planned at Sanaa and Magic Kingdom.

Yes clearly we love Kids night out.

Even more we love the fact we can request Kelly whenever we do. I know Logan loves her and it has made the whole thing awesome as she gets to see him grow up. Plus we feel as though we have our own personal babysitter. She arrived exactly at 6:30 and we soon found ourselves leaving behind little man, who didn’t seem phased in the least-to head out to Sanna.

DSC03653.jpg

In all honesty I didn’t know what to expect when it came to Sanaa, other than Elliott and Lea raved about it for some time now. Our wait was very little before we were seated. They handed me two different menus and had the manager come out. As far as chef experiences goes, this by far was the best of the best of the trip if not ever. She just really helped out suggesting and going over things not only with me, but with Andy as well. She was also just exceptionally helpful all around. As for the food, Andy liked it a lot better than I did but that does not mean it was horrible. It is just not something I loved. The spices did a number on my stomach for the remainder of the night but Andy thought they were amazing. Andy had the bison-he recommends it. I had chicken and something vegan friendly. While we enjoyed it I don’t think we would go out of our way to go all the time.

DSC03655.jpg

From dinner we hopped on the bus to MK, because it was still fairly early we were determined to get BTMRR since Logan decided he all of sudden didn’t want to ride it anymore. We had perfect timing as people were lining up for the 9:00 pm parade and we rushed back to the Big Thunder. The wait was still ridiculous, but Fastpasses were still being handed out so we snatched some of the last ones for the evening and headed over to fantasyland and hopped on Ariel.

And we nailed the Fireworks perfectly!! Back in May we watched Wishes from the dock waiting for the boat. At the time I thought that was an incredible view. Well I had not a clue what I was missing. As we went over to Gaston’s Tavern we hit the place just as Wishes began, and let me tell you. That is probably THE MOST INCREDIBLE VIEW!! Between Cinderella’s Castle, Eric’s castle and the beast you are right there, they are practically overtop of you. And watching them in Belle’s Village? Well I think I shed more than a couple of tears. It was as if my make believe dream had come true. IT IS A MUST DO in my books. Added bonus, not to many people are back there.

After Wishes we hit the last ride of the night on BTMRR. I know there are faster roller coasters out there but nothing beats a classic. Nothing.

And that is how we ended a night.

Coming up...a rant...somewhat.

My somewhat rant.

Disclaimer here. I am in no means against ECV's. I am however against certain situations like the one that I witnessed. I realize many people need them to get through the parks. I myself have a disability, but don't complain and I know many disabilities are often unseen to most of the world. But this experience took the cake for me.

I stood in line waiting for the bus to bring us back to the Animal Kingdom Lodge. In front of us, was a row and a half of guests doing the same thing. It was late, it was hot and it was definitely past half the kids bedtime. On the side lined up was 2 ECVs, a boy in a decked out wheelchair and a woman in a pretty teal wheelchair. As the bus pulled in ECV lady #1 backed up hers, as ECV lady #2 stood up walked over to the line and had her son sit down in the ECV we all waited as the cast member rearranged and worked out the bus so he could get as many people, and the ECV's on the bus as possible. It was a struggle with ECV lady #1, but he managed to do it. Then it was the sons turn who raced it around before plopping the ECV on the lift and waited as the cast member brought him on board. When it was finally on the bus, he was asked if he could move, to which he said yes and got up. Two down, two to go, the cast member went back down to see to the wheelchaired guests, and with his back to him the ECV guy began to dance around the bus, waving and sticking the tongue out to the rest of us. And the lady who was the original ECV driver, not only walked all over to the walkway, but carried three strollers and climbed the stairs. The family then gave high fives to one another as the cast member still with the back to them talked to the wheelchair bound guests.Clearly not all of them needed that ECV rental.

The cast member was attempting to tell the wheelchair bound guests that they would have to wait for the next bus. The mother would not have anything to do with it, it took a little bit of determination on her end before he said he would see what he could do and finally managed to get her on as well...the teal lady had to wait for the next.

Maybe this issue wouldn't have gotten me so much had it not been for the fact there were two people who clearly did need the assistance. Maybe those two legitimately had reasons for the ECV's rentals, this we will truly never know. But from where I stood in line, the lack of empathy and the appearance that these people thought that they somehow were above anyone and deserved to take advantage of this right and services was clear.

No not everyone abuses this sort of thing. There are several out there that need them and do not use them in this sort of fashion. But its families like them the kind that use them to take advantage that give those who actually need them, the bad rap that they have.

OMG that's something we comment about on every visit. Like you say some people generally need them and for those I don't mind waiting but others clearly don't need them and it sounds like in your example they clearly were taking advantage, that's where the cast members should be able to tell them to queue!

This was my point exactly. I know some people need them but the guy getting up and then dancing around the bus and waving, that just about disgusted me. Several of us complained and were not happy at all.

trying to catch up with a bunch of trip reports! And I saw this one! So happy to see all of you having such a great time!

Logan is growing up so fast! It's amazing to see kids grow up on this board through trip reports!

I love the picture of him eating his ice cream Mickey bar! He loved it! :)

Love that the two of you had two date nights this trip! And your food at the Flying Fish looked really really good!!!!!

That is awful that those people with the ECV's did. It's the fact that they got up and pranced around when the bus driver wasn't looking. Total lack of respect.

Can't wait to read more!

Friday August 9, 2013: Day eight

DSC03740.jpg

Our last full day. I have to it was not something I wanted to wake to. But we were going to make the most out of it. So a full day was in order. First stop, DTD to do some shopping for both Andy and I. We were able to find a couple of things and hit up lunch at the Earl and it was just hitting noon! Still plenty of time. Instead of going back to AKL for the afternoon, we planned to go straight to Magic Kingdom, we picked up the first bus we could, which happened to be Wilderness Lodge, took the boat over and was in the gate by 1:15!

DSC03739.jpg

Something about this day was going to be lucky. As we were heading to get the stroller a man stopped us and asked if we wanted 5 fastpasses to go on Buzz-UMM HELLO!!! THANK YOU.-So little man got to ride it back to back, and Andy got to play until he too got to 999,999 because you know he couldn’t let his wife be the only one to accomplish this. After Buzz Logan wanted to do the people mover and Ariel so we hit up a fastpass for Ariel and did a round of the people mover. It seems as though it was the last day for most of the people because everyone was there. I suppose it Is the perfect way to end a vacation, especially for those that only visit the World once.

But with the crowds, we soon discovered there wouldn’t be much more we could do at the park and we needed to make it over to Epcot where our final dinner reservation of the trip would await us. But not before we had a final round of two of Logan’s favorite rides. Mexico and the final of the trip? Would be the same as his first. Nemo.

DSC03755.jpg

And finally, our dinner. We made our way over to the Land where we had reservations for The Garden Grill. I know a lot of people who are so iffy about this restaurant. But for us, we often find it is so underrated. Not only did we have a fantastic meal as always but probably one of the best non-date nights that we have with Logan And the character interaction is one of my favorites on property. He thoroughly enjoyed himself, and we left feeling as though we had an amazing time, and yet all had a heavy heart knowing tomorrow we would drive off property.

We left the following morning and as we drove away Logan began to cry. I want to go back, Mickey and Minnie are going to forget about me. I can’t wait till next summer.

And we cried to, except we knew something he didn’t. He was going back for a surprise trip during his birthday.

Which is now 14 days away..

I think the lack of respect was what got us and ticked us off more than anything, especially the dancing.
Yes Logan is definitely growing and way to fast....its so hard to believe!!!

I know this took me forever to write. The good news, we will be heading down and my next report will come a lot quicker than this one!!

Just discovered your TR. We were there the same time: August 3 & 4 at AKL Jambo House, the 5th thru 10th at Poly. As I read about your rainy evening in the MK on Monday the 5th, I tried to remember what we did that night. Fortunately, I journal every vacation so I looked it up :) . We also were in the MK but left before 8 p.m. (and the major downpour.) Our room overlooked the lagoon and we watched the rain, disappointed that the Electrical Water Pageant did not show up.

We are also HUGE fireworks junkies, so we continued to wait for Wishes to start at 10. After 15 minutes, we decided Wishes must have been canceled so I closed the drapes.

BUT...at 10:50 p.m. I heard a boom and threw open the drapes. Wishes was not canceled, just delayed!:D

Enjoy your upcoming trip for your son's birthday. We will be arriving the following week to celebrate mine!
