Be Honest: Your Thoughts on The Great Movie Ride

Yeah, and I totally understand that, but its always rough when your enjoyment of an attraction is based on a CM's acting ability and delivery. Especially when it is supposed to be taken somewhat seriously (unlike Jungle Cruise). I think it could be re-tooled to where the CM is more of a "driver" than a guide and commentator. This already kind of happens when the ganster or cowboy take over the vehicle. They could just extend that concept throughout. But hey, if people really love it the way it is, my feelings about it aren't that strong...ha!

The way to fix that is what they used to do, auditions and training for who would be good for that part. Entertainment pay would help as well. That is what Universal does for 'most' of their acting driven attractions.

The concept is great, current training management is the issue.

Completely agree. This ride would be dead to me if there were no Alien scene. I think they could make it a little more exciting, maybe queue the Aliens' appearances better. But I am a huge horror fan and the fact that horror movies are barely even mentioned always makes me sad. The Alien scene is one of the only good ones for us horror/sci-fi fans.

I think it's time to update some of the movies shown. Really don't think we need Tarzan anymore, or Singing in the Rain. How about Star Wars? Or riding through the Psycho bathroom set?

hahahaha. That would be an akward scene to put in since its..a bathroom. An entire scene like that with Norman Bates and the Bates Mansion on the hill would be a dream come true but won't be happening..A Universal production. Same reason the 'horror' section of the ride is very generic.

It just comes down to what others have said, the anti plussing of attractions. Neglect as slowly but surely effects and touches become non operational or less mobile.

I love the ride itself. I also love the idea of going through the great movies of the past. But I think an update is way overdue. A major refurb that has some more popular movies could really make this ride a 'must do' for everyone. It's already a 'must do' for me. But it could really increase popularity.

Moonlight Parade to Chicago. Alien to Star Wars. Gangster scene to include 'The Godfather.'
Gotta do something to that Horror section. Disney is not going to use any real scary movies here...too scary for kids. They barely let Maleficent out let alone Freddy Kruger. I say put in an Animation section or something. But the area is a waste of space as is.

I'm going to ride it regardless if it gets a refurb or not. Maybe Disney knows that and thats why they keep it as it is.

The GMR is a strong concept that has the makings of a "Great" ride. However, it needs an extensive overhaul; new movies/sets, updated AAs, more special effects, and a better finale.

If they really wanted to go all out, a new ride system would be interesting to see as well.

Haha! C'mon, that would be WAY too easy! :ROFLOL:

Very True

I think the ride is very dated. It needs to be gutted and every scene needs to be replaced.

The whole ride is SO dated and BORING! After the very first ride in this attraction, I was so over it. I've been to WDW at least 25 times, the Great Movie Ride-twice and that was at least 10 years ago.

Here comes an honest opinion from someone who has only rode it once(which was my last trip). The reason I decided to try it was because of what people on here said about the ride so I wanted to check it out.

First off, the line queue isn't bad at all. I enjoyed seeing some old props and the old movies on the screen. Now onto the ride. Going on it for the first time, I had a rough idea of what to expect. I enjoyed some scenes like the wizard of oz and Mary Poppins however, the technology isn't up to date for its time. I also think some movies should be changed my youngest sister who is 11 only knew half the movies mentioned so some scenes kinda dragged for her. My dad however, knew every single movie and loved the attraction. I myself liked it but think it needs some updates. maybe add some movies.

Our CM was pretty good. stayed in character, was enjoyable, seemed like he enjoyed what he was doing so didn't have a problem there.

Like countless other WDW attractions, the original design and implementation is classy, special, and makes for a wonderful experience you can't get elsewhere. And like countless other WDW attractions, management has allowed it to be neglected and fall apart, with many effects being allowed to malfunction or non-function for years. Where Walt Disney advocated the continuous "plussing" of his attractions, TDO has mastered the skill set of "minussing" beloved Disney masterpieces; including The Great Movie Ride.

The Great Movie Ride needs to be refurbished, cared for, and added to ... not dismantled, or closed or re-done (and with no freaking Disney characters).

I couldn't have said it better myself.

I love the GMR and it happens to be one of my favorite attractions of all time. With that said, I do believe it could use a good refurb.

I think that Tarzan and Alien desperately, along with the Fantasia scene.

If I could create my own great movie ride though, I would go with this. In no particular order...

1. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
2. Star Wars
3. Godfather
4. Gone With the Wind
5. Raiders of the Lost Ark
6. Field of Dreams
7. Lion King
8. Back to the Future
9. Forrest Gump
10. James Bond

A good blend of both classics and popular movies today.

Thoughts?

:wave:I say leave it alone... its a classic... maybe clean it up new AA's would be nice... on another note... I have rode this ride numerous times and we have only seen the western scene take over once.... how do they determined between the gangster and the bank robber scene?

My thoughts are that it's still a good ride and still one of my top rides there. I say that a small refurb would be nice. Proabably adding some new effects or something would give it a more modern touch.

They do need to redo the ride though, it introduced me to alot of movies and i always thought it was an exciting one, technology effects sound all that stuff is very daty and could use an introduction to the 21st century

they also need to update the ride cars and track system. It could be better.

I would love to see (the original) Charlie and Willie Wonka and the chocolate factory

I have a question, I have been to the World a ba-zillion times... but, I have only been on TGMR a handful of times. I was wondering, anytime you watch the travel shows about Disney, they always show TGMR with a scene with fire coming out of some windows.... I do not remember that happening in any time I have been on the attraction... What was that scene from??? Also, why don't they make the scenes able to swap out, so you don't know what you will see in a couple scenes...

Maybe we can get that fire scene working again.. and we can get a refurb out of it, like Tiki! :ROFLOL:

Thanks
