BCV vs BWV?

Okay, so here is my question: Both of these resorts seem to be close enough to DHS and Epcot so that you can walk to both. Why are resale points ~$10-15/point more expensive for BCV? Are there any major differences? Thanks in advance for your opinions.

I bet part of the reason is that BCV is EXTREMELY close to Epcot's International Gateway; you also have access to Stormalong Bay.

I think that Stormalong Bay is what keeps the point price higher. You can't hop to that pool. Plus it's almost a water park by itself.

I own at BCV, and we love it, but we like BWV also. They both have their positives. Yeah BC maybe a few minutes closer to the Int. Gate but I doubt that makes a real difference. My guess would be the pool.

Stormalong Bay and Supply and Demand - according to allears.net, there are only 205 rooms at the Beach Club Villas, as opposed to 383 rooms at the Boardwalk Villas. So chances are, there will always be fewer units available for resale at the Beach Club, and those that do go up can get a higher price.

Much lower (probably) on the "why" scale - and again, this is according to allears.net - is that some of the 2BR units at Beach Club Villas are true standalone 2BR units, whereas the 2BR units at Boardwalk are all 1BR/Studio rooms opened up by a connecting door. For people with large groups who like the idea of being all-together in a dedicated 2BR unit, the Beach Club will be more desirable.

And finally, despite being so close to Epcot, Beach Club villas are a little ways away from the main building making it a little quieter. In theory. I've read complaints from people about the road noise.

I've never stayed at BCV - though I tried - but I did spend a few nights in a 1BR at the Boardwalk, Standard View. Thought it was great, would stay there again in a heartbeat.

As Slappy said, the price difference is partly due to the smaller number of units and thus points available for purchase at BCV.

Although for my points, I strongly prefer BWV.
IMO, the villas are in the better building versus the hotel rooms (more lake, main pool and Swan/Dolphin views than the hotel side).

At BCV, the villas are stuck in an undesirable side building next to a road and parking lot.
I like Stormalong bay, but every time I walk over and check out the actual Beach Club Villas, I can't imagine choosing to stay there over Boardwalk.

Just my jaded Boardwalk spoiled opinion.:D:shrug::cool:

I concur with supply and demand. It can be very hard to get into BCV, esp. studios, at the 7 month mark. I was able to get a 1 BR recently, and enjoyed my stay there. It was at the slowest time at WDW I have ever seen though.

While the building is separate, the covered walkways between it and the main building are very short. The marketplace is esp. accessible from BCV. Beaches and Cream is a bit of a stroll, and I never went over to the Yacht club, but you are about as far as you can get from it and still be in the resort. Stormalong Bay also has an effect on the resale price here. It is the best pool complex on property. I did not find the walk to it from BCV to be inconvienent, but it isn't outside your door either. But this isn't the pool you just go to for a quick dip anyway. You will stay there a while. The pool for quick dips at BCV is adequate for the crowd it attracts.

Epcot is still very close. You just take the first right after crossing the bridge, and you are a shady walk away from your room. I walked over to Boardwalk twice and enjoyed the ammentites they offer there at night. You can have some of the best of both worlds when you stay at BCV.

The one advantage I had never read about before regarding BCV involves DHS. The first time I commuted there, I was not allowed to board the friendship boat (guy was not to "friendly" about it if you ask me, but I understand why it has to be that way) that I wanted to take that morning. So we waited 10 min. for the next one. The walk from BCV to DHS would be the longest possible walk of any of the Epcot area resorts, so that didn't really interest me. So we catch the boat and make it there after the rope drop, but still early enough to have a great Monday morning. Later that week, I realized you are FAR, FAR better off driving over DHS from BCV than any other mode of transportation. The parking lot that was mentioned earlier has spaces that are just feet from the end of the hallway. It is not much different than being able to park outside your door like at OKW for instance. Exit the resort, take a right, and the next thing you know, you are at the intersection to enter DHS parking lot. I mean like 6 minutes from room door to "Okay, which row are we parked on?"

But back to the point, I think the advantages of BWV are the closer proximity to DHS, that makes walking there a real option. Also, the ability to book standard view rooms for those ridiculously low point values at the 11 month mark. To be able to stay at an Epcot area resort for those kinds of points is a great deal.

Good observation on the standard room value. It is a ridiculously good deal to stay at Boardwalk for such few points.

For me, the problem is that I'll rarely take advantage of that value, because I'm so obsessed with the Boardwalk view rooms.

In any case, BWV ownership offers great 11 month booking perks if you love the resort!

I am considering selling our 160 points at BLT and buying 200-ish at BWV instead after staying at both. Doing so would almost double our annual fees though. Any idea why they are so high at BWV?

BWV is an older resort, and thats why the maintenance is higher, it was just updated throughout,

We own both BWV and BLT, both different resorts and love them both.

We were told on a sales trip at our local DVC store in Illinois, that the maintenance fees are less at BLT because of no restaurants or anything. If you think of the Boardwalk your fees not only go to the hotel but the grounds and the walk itself.

I have never in 11 years heard that, the maintenance fees are lower at BLT due to the fact its new and doesnt need to have as much maintenance done. Vero's fees are the highest since it is the resort that had hurricane damage a few years ago and with its beachfront ends up costing more to maintain. I think the sales rep may have been new.
