BBQ at Disney

My son has decided that during our next trip he wants BBQ. A 10 year old after my own heart;). We have been looking around to see where they serve BBQ and see that it is done at Flame Tree, The Smokehouse and Mickeys backyard BBQ. These are all three we have not yet tried but would love to hear reviews for all of them. I understand true BBQ is low and slow and I'm sure Disney does it hot and fast, but beggers can't be choosers:D.

Thanks

They do it slow i know for FTB I watched a documentary showing how they did the pulled pork and ribs there etc and they slow cook it for quite a while. Disney usually is pretty authentic about how they cook their food even for quick service.
Everything at FTB is absolutely delicious and finger licking good ... But of course would not lick my fingers for fear of germs while at Disney! Lol :)

I agree with, sxeensweet, Flametree BBQ is delicious. Other than my homemade BBQ, it's probably my favorite place to eat BBQ. I usually get the ribs and chicken combo. The ribs are a dry rib, meaning they don't put a sauce on them while they are smoking, but they do have sauce where the napkins and stuff are. The beans are also good and they put a little pulled pork in with them. It's a must do for us at Animal Kingdom.

I have never tried the ribs at Flame Tree, but the chicken is outstanding! I've had several half chicken meals on Disney property, and none even come close to the half chicken at Flame Tree. It is simply out of this world. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. The rub they use is delicious, and the chicken stays moist. I am not a bean eater, but I heard their beans are awesome, too.

I hate all Disney barbeque because it is all pork, and being from Texas barbeque is beef brisket not pork. I wish Disney had at least one place with beef barbeque but no such luck. It is hard being a Texan at Disney, no barbeque and no Dr. Pepper.

I dont think the quality of the BBQ differs all that much on Disney property but I have found the Flame Tree is about as good as you can get. But watch out for those dang birds that hang around. They try mooching a meal from anyone close by. :hungry:

Unless the menu has changed in the last two years, there is a BBQ Chicken and Ribs Combo at Cosmic Rays in the MK that my wife and I used to split on several visits. Just don't wait too long into the evening as it was the first food bay to close.

It's like being a Canadian who likes iced tea and visiting WDW... not the same thing here. Ours is pre-sweetened or something if that makes any sense. On our "Disneymoon" in 2012 I was at Boatwright's and thought I would try "sweet tea" thinking it would be like what we drink here in Ontario. NOT EVEN CLOSE. I was in shock! :jawdrop: The waitress had been watching me and I am sure saw the face I made and she started laughing and says "Ya'll are from the north?" My DH & I looked at each other... looked at her... and burst out laughing! :hilarious: Now I just order flavoured lemonades everywhere while we're visitng WDW... :cautious:

The only one on your list we've tried is FTB. They must have been having an off day because it was the worst quick service meal of our trip. Just not good. Next trip we're going to give it another shot though because it gets great reviews from everyone. :)

Fellow Texan here... howdy. Oh man... how I long for a Dr. Pepper. I am on a preventative medication for migraines, and one of the side effects is that carbonated drinks taste horrrrrrible. I haven't had a Dr. Pepper since April. I miss it so much. Sorry for the sidetrack... it's just rare to see Dr. Pepper appreciation on the forums.

I agree that Disney needs to start serving brisket. I bet with the skills their chefs have, they could make some amazing brisket. Heck, that Flame Tree rub would taste amazing on some brisket!!! :hungry:

Whatever you do, don't book a table service lunch at Animal Kingdom. Get counter service from Flame Tree BBQ. The food is delicious and you can't beat the view under covered tables near the lagoon.

Mickeys Backyard BBQ is not about the quality of the BBQ. It is a country show were they serve food. I went in 2009 and was not impressed with the food. Same buffet that is everywhere at Disney. The show was fun though.

Thanks guys for all the feedback. For our trips we all, (my husband, myself and our son) pick new places that we have not been, so when our son said he wanted BBQ I knew you guys would come through and give some good picks and opinions. Appreciate them all.;)
