We have never flown before so please ignore the ignorance! We are flying air tran and it says on their website each paying customer(would that exclude my infant daughter if I am not paying for a seat for her?) can have 2 checked bags. Is that on top of the carry on or does that include the carry on? I also want to bring a stroller and car seat and can't find any info on that!
"Checked bags" means bags checked with the airline at the ticket counter or with a skycap, and that are loaded in the belly of the airplane. These are different from carry-ons, which, as the name implies, are carried onto the airplane by you and stay with you.
You can gate check the stroller, which will not count against your luggage total. When you arrive at your gate, tell the gate agent you wish to gate check the stroller. They'll tag the stroller, and you'll get a receipt. Use the stroller on the jetway, and when you get to the actual aircraft entrance, pull off to the side before going in. Fold up the stroller and leave it there. A ramper (airport luggage handler) will come up and get the strollers and put them in the baggage compartment as the last items loaded. When your plane arrives in Orlando, a ramper will unload the gate checked items first, and bring them up to the inside of the jetway just outside the entrance to the aircraft. You should see it as you exit the plane. If you don't, just pull over to the side and wait a minute or two.
If this is a non-stop flight to Orlando, I guarantee you won't be the only person gate checking a stroller.
As for the car seat, I have no idea.
It sounds like your child will be a "lap baby," so you won't be using the car seat inside the airplane. So my question is, are you renting a car when you get to Orlando? If not, then why are you bringing the car seat???
