I was at mk today we were disembarked from steam train at toontown fair due to thunderstorms and lightning. Get on monorail to epcot at ttc front cabin of mono pink. Stuck for a while on beam cause red was having power issues. we sat by imagination for 20 minutes while red was powering down and up but then it limped out and deadheaded to ttc at 15 mph in bypass mode. traffic also stated silver went down and resort beam was shut down to troubleshoot power issues. After dinner only saw pink and gold on epcot beam. Anyone know what happened to red or silver?

From my iPhone sorry so breif

My cousin called us tonight and they were all on one of the monorails at that time. She said the thunder was so hard it shook the monorail and they had to make an e-stop...she said she was scared to death. She also said its been raining since they got there on Tuesday...that is why I don't care for the summertime in wdw.

Well this is what you can expect if you ride the monorail in the middle of a thunderstorm...a 5 minute trip from the TTC to Epcot could turn into a 2 hour trip. Recently I got stuck in a monorail during a storm as well and isn't fun...30 minutes of no air conditioning, packed room with almost no air, thunder and lightning very close, big downpour..its scary. Be glad you guys made it through!

ummmmmmmmmmmm beides the cost issue i think this is the biggest reason we wont see monorail expansion anytime in the near future.:fork:

MONORAIL EXPANSION MONORAIL EXPANSION FIFTH GATE FIFTH GATE.

Heard it from the bus driver's wife who has a friend who's husband is a friendship boat captain.

the odd thing is this is usually an annual summer time event at wdw, it just seems to be "news" since we are so connected with the internet. i remember being at the polynesian summer 96, was going to catch the monorail to mk. boy was it a typical summer thunderstorm, yellow i think it was came into the station, it had been struck by lightning, the doors wouldnt open without a cm usuing the manual/evac procedures. this along with the beams getting struck & other trains hit it caused monorail to be down over 2 hours, & bus service was being used to get guests out of the water parks as a priority over anyone waiting for a monorail.

I work at the Hilton Grand Vacations on I-Drive and lightning struck our building. I was about 40 feet away from where it struck, and I haven't been that terrified in a LOOOONG time. I can only imagine what it was like to be on a monorail at that time.

I stayed there! That place is fantastic! I just stayed at summer bay resort and the HGV was much nicer and much more relaxing!

rather ride the monorail then the ferry during a storm

Last year I was on a ferry in the English channel for 5 hours as there was 70 mph winds and they had to close a load of docks at Calais and so createda huge queue of ferries across the channel. It was meat to only be a 1 1/2 hour crossing.

Note to self - no monorail in storm. I'm terrified as it is!

But yet Disney kept the rides going in the wake of Hurricane Erin, and I'll never forget riding BTMR in the rain with the clouds swirling above me!

I guess I'm really a sicko but now I want to go for a ride on the monorail in a storm ROFL. Kind of like up here on the coast we like to go down to the beach during a big storm - best place to watch from. :)

Since we haven't heard of an entire car of monorail guests being executed at once by lightning, I'm assuming it's not actually that unsafe. That said, I wouldn't want to be on a *crowded* monorail stuck out there like that...I'd want my own car. :)

Last July, I was on the Monorail going from the Poly to MK. There was a literal monsoon going on with nasty lightning and VERY loud thunder. We reached the MK station and we decided we would take another loop around until the rain subsided. There was a bolt of lightning that must have hit near the monorail and the whole car shook. For some reason they couldn't get the doors closed and rain was just sweeping into the car. It was at that moment that I decided I would NEVER ride the monorail during a storm like that.
