bad thunderstorms 6/26 - monorail story

I guess I'm really a sicko but now I want to go for a ride on the monorail in a storm ROFL. Kind of like up here on the coast we like to go down to the beach during a big storm - best place to watch from.

See, that's pretty much my sentiments as well. That'd make for one heck of a photo op. :D

We experienced that thunderstorm on Thursday. Yes, it was pretty bad. Funny thing though, we were staying at the AKL and the animals were out in numbers during the storm. Just walking around like nothing..... Some of that lightning was unreal.......... Glad we were safe in our room at the time.

Yeah because I've never seen a bus broken down on the side of the rode.
The difference is another bus can pull up behind said broken down bus and pick up its passengers also the other buses can simply go around. The same is not true of the monorail.

We were in a monorail in Sept of 07 durring a storm. It was our first night there and we were riding to Epcot just for fun. We were in the Epcot station waiting to leave where lighting struck somewhere. We lost power and were stuck in the station. The cast members made us leave the monorail and head down to the busses. By this time the rain was just pouring down. We got soaked just running to the busses. It was kind of fun sitting in the monorail and hearing everything stop when it lost power.

Monorails are more versatile than you think. While its unlikely to be done a monorail can pull up beside another monorail and pick up the passengers on the disabled one. And there's almost always a way for the other monorails to work around a disabled monorail. Buses have their issues too I've seen buses before break down in some critical spots and create huge traffic jams, keeping other unaffected buses from getting to their location.

The monorails are perfectly safe in a thunderstorm. Might be scary, but it's safe. I actually was on one in July of 1994 when it was hit by lightning. We were stuck for a good hour or so on the track, but everybody was fine. When I went in 2006, me and my GF had just arrived for our first night and since we didn't want to waste a day of our pass we decided to take a trip around the Seven Seas Lagoon (she had never been before so she was excited)! There was a huge thunderstorm occurring and it was breathtaking to say the least! We ended up doing two full circles around the lagoon before we got back off at our hotel. I never have ever felt unsafe during a storm on the monorails. Honestly, it should be as safe as being inside a car during a storm.

Last July we were on the TTA when a huge storm was coming toward MK. We dashed over to the COP. The thunder was really loud and sounded close. All of the sudden the ride stops. The engineers come on the ride and told us to remain seated that we were hit by lightening. Of course we get stuck listening to the audio over and over for about 15 minutes. They finally shut down the audio and we're stuck in the ride for another 20 minutes or so. Finally the storm blew over and we had to evacuate. The coolest things was we had to walk all the way around the building. It was a pretty cool backstage area!!

:ROFLOL::ROFLOL::ROFLOL:If they put the 5th gate on the monorail line, where would they put it?

Well they would print a giant map of the entire property from google earth and just throw darts. A dart would land on the monorail line, and they would ask the magic 8 ball if they should expand. If so, they spin the dice to decide how many hotels to hook up the the new monorail line. If the magic 8 ball says no, they shake it again untill it finally says yes, claiming every spin that says no is a mulligan.

It's how they came up with stitch's great escape. Except it was a drinking game and they used the trashed ideas from imagineering instead of the giant google earth printout. And they spun the dice to help decide which attraction to destroy.

Trust me, the bus driver I talked to today seemed really confident about it.
