Bacon, Bacon, Bacon

The bacon @ WDW is horrible. Nearly flavorless, grease coated strips of shoe leather. I sometimes wonder if it is even made from pork?

The only breakfast I eat at a WDW TS now is Donalds Breakfast Safari in AK. Since the breakfast meats in WDW really $uck at least the fresh carved ham served there for breakfast is really really good. I am not sure if I emphasized that enough because it is really really really good! Certainly the ham comes from a completely differant pork curing supplier.

Every buffet has a huge try of the so called bacon wallowing in grease and the breakfast platters and bounty platters come with bacon as well as breakfast sandwiches they offer.
thinly cut bacon is not what I consider bacon. I like the thick cut and crispy kind. My wife has a tray that cooks it in the microwave where it hangs vertically and the grease drips off of it leaving the bacon really crispy without loosing the flavor. The stuff in buffets is usually thin small greasy pieces offered by Disney.

Yeah cooking bacon in the oven on a cooling rack over a sheet pan is the way to go. As you say the grease drops off and the bacon crisps with burning like it can in a frying pan.

That would be fine if the crap that is served in those steamer trays at WDW was really bacon! There is no smoke or the sweet flavored background from the proper curing of the pork belly found in a single strip of bacon on property in WDW that I am aware of.

Believe me when I say I am lifetime member of the "Pork Fat Rules" club!

Now that you mention it, the bacon down there really is pathetic. Thin lifeless strips of something. Maybe thats why I dont eat it there. they do have some good sausage though. Nice 8-1 links.

The sausage served at the Kona Cafe is very good I always order it with my macadamia pineapple pancakes along with a press pot of coffee and I'm ready for a full day of touring.

I think I'll try and get my local butcher to do a deal with WDW and supply them with bacon, nice, thick, oak-smoked back bacon rashers. What do you think Hatter, take a few packets of Ayrshire bacon with me and ask the Captain's Grille staff to cook it up? Something tells me I wouldn't see it again as the chef wouldn't be able to resist scoffing it.
