Backtracking from BTMRR

Do you realize the walk you're complaining about is only 2/10ths of a mile? That's the distance between the entrance to Haunted Mansion and Big Thunder Mountain. That's less than a lap around a track.

Maybe you should consider making Disneyland your place to visit, instead of Magic Kingdom. It's much smaller.

You may also want to consider a scooter renter. It seems that half the visitors to Orlando parks already rent them and they're walking adverse. Scooters can also double as a locker affording you plenty of room for snacks. My personal choice several bags of chips (definitely Funyuns and Flamin' Hot Cheetos), a 2-liter Coke, and I usually stash a cheeseburger or two.

This reply could be read as condescending, but I wouldn't take it as such. Part of the appeal to me of BTMRR is that it is out of the way. It's part of the west. At DL it's easy to get to but doesn't feel right to be in the middle of everything.

The walk back from Fronierland along the water is one of my favorite things at WDW

Not to mention that Splash Mountain is "right there" relative to Big Thunder at WDW. It's not like it's a dead-end with Big Thunder and nothing else for miles. Pirates really isn't too many steps further from it either. So I'd agree with you that Big Thunder does a good job splitting the difference between looking out-of-the-way and requiring a real hike to get to it.

I can see on a hot day with sore feet that it does seem like a long way around the "Rivers" to get to it and it has many ups and downs, twist turns and bottle necks along the way, but I will have to admit that the distance really isn't that far after walking all day anyway.

That is why I always rolled my eyes at people that pushed for the walkway from MK to the Grand Floridian. In the morning in the daylight it might be thinkable but after spending all day on hot pavement walking approximately 10 miles the very last thing I would want to do is walk back to the hotel. I'd always be mindful that the Seven Seas also seems to attract more then it's fair share of Alligators that might think we were infringing on their territory or think that people would taste like chicken.
